I have to disagree with those wishing for third-person gameplay. Just play a few seconds of Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie (2005), and you’ll understand why developers often opt for the immersive first-person route. The game pulls you into its world by stripping away the HUD and making you rely on your surroundings to gauge details like ammo count, environmental cues, and puzzle elements. This approach doesn’t just increase immersion; it challenges players to pay closer attention, deepening the experience by engaging their senses in ways third-person gameplay rarely can achieve. There’s a reason why most immersive sims are designed in first person. Games like System Shock, BioShock, Prey, Alien: Isolation, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Thief, and Dishonored all prioritize this perspective to fully draw players into their worlds. Some, like Deus Ex: Human Revolution, incorporate a hybrid approach by switching to third person for certain elements, such as takedowns, cover mechanics, conversations with NPCs, and cutscenes. However, the core gameplay remains primarily in first person, emphasizing immersion and player engagement through a direct, more personal perspective.
Year right. Many people like me will just not buy this if they don't add third person mode. Immersion not always comes from just perspective, it depends on what is the key gameplay mechanics. If it's platforming, combat (especially if it's mostly melee) and stealth while it's adventure (totally not System Shock or Alien Isolation), then third person is the way to go. Uncharted is a joke for you?
@@xen0m So I guess you're not buying the game then ... sucks for you. I don't care. There are first person games and there are third person games, and I play them all, if they're good.

Having said that, they did somehow make it look like the movies (especially inside the tombs), and they did a good job on the combat and voice acting as well. So yeah, I'm still optimistic. I just wonder how long this game will be though? 10 hours? 15 at most?
@hexerei02021 it's not a RPG, it's an adventure game based on a movie. I don't want immersion, I want a cinematic experience and 3rd person is the way to go there. But like I said, they did a good job capturing the aesthetic, so I still think it looks good. And yes, 10 is definitely too short. 15 would still be short but a little acceptable. I'm hoping for at least 20 to 30 hours. They've only been working on the game for less than 3 years though, so it'll probably be pretty short...
I think first person action/adventure/puzzle games based off of major franchises are on the rise. Action adventure games utilizes 3rd person perspective for a reason. Moreover, some moves like climbing stuff either would cause you nausea, or force to watch wall and floor up close during whole duration of the move (that's why designers are switching to 3rd person view anyway for those scenes). Finally, it allows you to admire the character, which played unarguably important role in TR, but IMO also plays important role in IJ - I'm talking about Indy's iconic fedora and whip. First person view plays key role in shooters, because to aim properly the eyes of protagonist and the viewfinder of the gun must be in one line with the target - it is next to impossible to do it realistically without first person view. That's why in the game industry we are talking about FPSes (as in: first person shooters), and the term FPV is used rather while talking about flying drones. And a final thought: I would pay really a lot of money for "just another Uncharted" or "just another Tomb Raider" (I'm talking about Legend-Anniversary-Underworld, not these "new" open world-survival monstrosities).
