The price of a product in this sector is not determined only by the type of jacket, nor by the quality of its materials and workmanship. Most big brands, unlike Decathlon, use recycled materials, use dyes that are more environmentally friendly, in general the entire production process is optimized in this direction. It doesn't have to be sponsored. It's a genuinely amazing jacket costing less than half as much as basically every other brand. You don't have to be sponsored to recommend a great product
It's lazy to say they are exactly the same. They are similar and yes decathlon makes very decent products for the price but if that's a MH Ghost Whisperer you know it's not the same. It's a lower denier material, a higher fill power down, different stitching, and better warmth to weight ratio. Lazy comparisons for sponsorships are bad for everyone. And I say this as someone who dislikes most of the big brands.
Still for most people it is the better choice they don't get into really cold weather and it is priced really well if you really want to go into outdoor it is different.
Would have liked to see the zipper as well. The cheaper jackets typically have bad zippers. I have plenty of decathlon stuff, but it also breaks, rips and dies earlier than some of the more expensive stuff.
Ghostwhisperer was the BIGGEST money waste in my outdoor Life yet. It NEVER kept me warm. Higher Fillpower ? Are u kidding . Check MT100 stats. Anyway i wont use down for my Jackets no more
I agree. You get what you pay for. At least for the most part. It really comes down to what's your intended use for the product is. I do find that the high-end premium name brands can tend to be overpriced. Again, typically, they come with a better quality most of the time. For me, when it comes to jackets I won't buy anything from Mountain Hardware Gear, Patagonia, etc. The same applies to the cheaper Decathlon, which used to be a lot less expensive until everyone started buying them. I am extremely happy with my Enlightened Equipment Apex Torrid which is priced just under $200 and I was able to custom pick my colors.
Such incredible value. Having worked in distributorships for most of my life, finding alternates or direct source goes a long way to improving your value for money.
Not the same material, not the same insulation, not the same quality, not the same customer service, not the same fit, not the same durability.. But yeah..
What are you even basing this on, not the same customer service? Buddy there is just about nobody with better customer service for the money than decathlon, not to mention their amazing warranty. Quality you can talk all you want about, but when it comes to customer satisfaction decathlon beats everybody.
Mountain Hardwear is certainly overpriced but calling these the same jacket is misleading. I thought you were the type of channel to not let brand deals influence what you say.
I had that decathlon jacket. Loved it but the zip broke, it didn't have a hood drawstring or inner pockets and wasn't as comfy as the one I replaced it with, which had all the above extras and was cheaper 👍
Ok so I know this is sponsored but hear me out, i live in a 2nd world country on a third world paycheck and haven't had access to anything other than dechatlon. From comparing gear to other hikers, a lot of which come from far, far away to follow the same routes, it really looks identical. It feels identical. And through years of use, I haven't had a single complaint. One word of advice tho - the shoe sizes may be deceiving. You'll need to try them on before buying. Trust me on this one - my foot is size 34 and i wear their brands' 36.
The retail and distribution strategy is what has the most impact on the final price. MH sells their stuff through all kind of stores while Decathlon only sell through their direct channels, hence why they can save a lot on retail price. They cut the middle man and keep their margins lower, but still healthy
First decathlon ski pants, zipper broke first day. Return got credit. Bought snowboard pants. Crouch open up as the stitching fell apart. I sewed it myself 😅
difference is that my Foraz jacket that i got for 60 euro in france 3 years ago is practically deflated while my girlfriend's JOTT 120euro jacket bought at the same time looks like it's brand new.
Decathlon had some tents set up in a car park near their store in Gateshead (UK). They were all full of water because the flysheets didn't go down to the ground and they didn't have waterproof doors. In the UK it is often windy and wet at the same time, flysheets need to protect the whole of the inner tent. A porch/vestibule is essential to dump wet gear into so that it doesn't need to be taken into inner tents.
Fill power and actual fill mass aren't the same. Fill power refers to the size of the down fluffs. The higher, the bigger and the more insulative for the weight. That doesn't mean they're putting in enough.
There used to be a handful of brick and mortar Decathlon stores in the US, but the last one closed down a few years ago. You can still buy it from their website, though.
Have the same jacket for €15.99 ($20) 😂 from LIDL Germany (German Costco kinda) was placed by the cashier checkout like it's some chewing gum, cigarettes and other misc crap 😂 best jacket ever (wear only a t-shirt underneath at 20° F / -5° C) If anyone pays more than $30 for such a jacket, you're getting scammed / deserve to be scammed
Picked up a green one year and a bit ago. Use it for hiking, around town and even as a thermal layer when I’m out doing army shit. Works absolutely great and I even use it when working outdoors in January/February because it stays at the perfect temperature. Really couldn’t be happier with it. Put it through hell and back and there’s no unexpected wear
My decathlon clothing are by far one of my favourites. Affordable and reliable most of the time. I will hopefully get some good deals this winter sale again.
I have both. They are not the same. It’s close and functional, sure. But the GW is higher quality down, rip stop proprietary shell, better zipper, lighter weight.
I think @MyLifeOutdoors is just bringing to light the opportunity to save money as many in the community don't have loads of cash for the top end brands. And the Decathlon jacket is a good bargain. I, also, would prefer the MH jacket overall despite the cost for some of the reasons listed here. College me would have bought the Decathlon though.
*me with a nobrand one off amazon still plenty warm, I’m sure it would hold up better, but when I can only get out a few times a 30$ down jacket that does the job, is better than a 100-500$ jacket that does the job only slightly better
It’s true to a point but I realized that some jackets have more of a ratio of down versus feather 🪶 and sometimes the seems are better done. Most people just have a jacket for home to car or for fashion. When it comes to being out in a major snow storm get a real good jacket from Eddie Bauer or something similar. 😊
So true.In my youth, I worked for several months in an ice cream factory. The same basic ice cream went into a lot of different packages for various supermarkets. Some went to budget stores, while some went to higher end stores with the relevant price increases and containing the blurb on the packaging about the alleged quality.
I mean, the Decathlon line IS a "brand name" at this point. It's just that it only really started to be noticed in the US in the last few years. It is valuable to note, though, that there's a difference between what you want and what you need. Most people can get by with a Swiss Tech puffer from Walmart for $25 ($7 on clearance). I got my Decathlon puffer a few years ago based on a recommend from Justin Outdoors. It's a great jacket, but Covid canceled the Mount Hood ascent I bought it for and I haven't really worn the jacket to this day.
Saying there the same is like saying an apple and orange are the same. Similar yes.. however buy a Patagonia better down sweater, then buy the ghost whisperer which is the same different brand! The Patagonia is very different. Patagonia will repair or replace, Patagonia uses a very different wind proof nylon for the outer shell. Patagonia buys back there products then resells at a significant discount for those that are earth preservationist! Etc!
Yea well when the decathlon gets wet it won't insulate you at all. I owned one. The spendy down jacket can get wet to a point and still keep you warm. I personally have the outdoor vitals nova pro and it's the best jacket I've owned. I really like the hardland down jacket on Amazon too for a budget coat
He should point out clearly that this is a Decathlon ad, that is true first and foremost. But he has a good point there: I' ve had highly priced top brand rainjackets (some extinct big animal) and this thing fell apart after two years as it was only glued together. Then I got a similar one from mountain warehouse for a third of that price and I'm happy til today for five years with that. You don't just pay for the product, you pay for the brand name like with any product, see the cult that's celebrated around the bitten fruit electronics stuff. That's a fact aänd though in some cases the products might be a little better, it's seldom worth paying two or three times or even more for the average user.
Decathlon gear is great for what it is - budget gear with at least some name. Similar to Naturehike. Still, specialized equipment from big brands is just so much better. Like TNF Inferno sleeping bag and Thermarest X-Therm that let me sleep warm directly in the snow in below -20C temperatures for being 2 kg. Yes, they are also $1,000 bought on sale. And still, this isn't lying, this is the cost of stretching that extra mile. You will have the same while building your PC, customizing your car, etc.
Once you been in the mountains, in freezing wind, snow, hail, dangerous conditions then you really start to apreciate quality gear. Both are ok for daily use on shopping sprees or dog walks, but one will fall down very quick when the weather becomes serious....
Just by the synthetic version of the MT100. It's 40 Euros in Germany and works perfectly fine. Im wearing it for 2 Years as a daily and also while hiking in the mountains. It's even pretty rainsafe. It's Zugspitzen approved
I never believe that these thin stuff works . For ladies we are usually more afraid of the cold . I bought a Uniqlo porketable one, it's thin and foldable but does nothing at keeping me warm. The good old thick ones always work better. It's heavier but does the job to keep me warm.
Cmon man. I agree many name brands are overpriced but there is a difference in quality and stitching and face fabrics etc. They are not the SAME. They are similar but with some very important quality differences.
So much hate from all the comments 😂. I have both and the decathlon one is my choice too. I actually have bought 3 from decathlon because i abuse my gear and its nice not having to over pay for the same warmth and packability.
I love decathlon and their quechua gear. They have a store inside of the Union train station is Toronto. Started buying some of their clothing before realizing exactly what their brand was. I'm hooked now. My quechua hiking thermo pants are amazing! I wear them religiously. I plan on getting lots more. I wish the store sold tents and other gear. So far it's mostly clothing.
As much as I like Decathlon and will spend over $1000 soon on few things, these jackets are not the same. 😂 I’d buy D with my own money, that doesn’t make them the same 😂
If I’m in the woods where most people aren’t gonna see me why would I wear a jacket or coat? After all, why not? Why shouldn’t I wear a thick medieval cloak?
I think its also important to say that certain name brands like Patagonia or Northface charge a lot for their puffies, but they also offer free repair for life if it gets damaged❤ especally if you use it regularly and beat the shit out of it
A lot of people here using the old adage "you get what you pay for" which is demonstrably untrue - it's more accurate to say you won't get what you don't pay for but there are endless companies that are quiet happy to $¢rew you for way more than a thing is worth.
Yeah but there’s also an element of where it’s made and the wages for the workers being fair or not too. Not saying you can always assume it’s all fair trade even if it’s expensive but if it’s cheap you can guess accurately what the answer is.
I agree for the average hiker whos doing 3 season type camping. Biggest issue I see is the decathalon is heavier by a couple ounces which if on a thru may be a big deal
@@Tyradius I see your humor but its actually a real thing. Add 2 ounces to a jacket a pound to a pack a pound and half to your tent. And soon you have a 30 pound pack before food. Tell me how exhausted you are hauling a base weight of 30 vs 8?
@@orionfell read my reply. You keep buying the "cheaper" things that are the "same" yeah they are the same minus the weight. Replace all your light gear for the cheaper stuff and if every thing added a 1/2 pound to pound to up to 5 pounds for packs and bags how heavy is your pack?
Decathlon is awesome i get a lot of top notch sports gear from them. Trail series running gear was great but those jackets are even awesome or Winter sports cross country and endurance skiing (skating).
I have a similar one with down insulation by Gerry. Bought at either Costco or Sam’s Club for between $20-30. Just an observation, sporting goods sewn in Vietnam have lasted much better than those made in China. Also, I gave away a North Face fake my wife got me years ago that she was sold in China. Check how things are made.
Yeah thread quality and leaking is gunna be a huge difference. This guy is a sponsor camper just selling stuff from what ive seen. Bought a 300 dollar jacket and ive had it for almost 10 years now. A cheap jacket will be blowing out threads and tearing immediately. LOOK AT THEIR WARRANTY for the product they sell. If its 30 days its garbage. Ive got a lifetime warranty... big difference.
As someone that worked for Decathlon for three years: the '100' range tends to be cheap. It's meant to INTRODUCE people to a sport. You buy this say, tennis racket/running shoe/bike if you haven't done the sport before and want to try it(first 6 months), or are very casual about the sport. The 500 range is for casual enjoyers of a sport. The 700 range is for intermediate. Running or going to the gym 3x per week. 700+ is clothing that is similar too or sometimes better(in my biased opinion) than A tier brands, but for 25-50% less in price. I hope this helps!
@@rfcbass6810 no ofcourse not. I'm talking about a system used for the whole lineup. Not every item fits in a neat little box. As for the jacket, it's for introducing people to hiking/camping. It's not focused on the experienced mountaineer, but for the French guy going for a week in the Alps on his spring vacation.
And when one of my clients boot sole descintagrates on day 2 of a trek in Greenland that she paid 8000$ for. I'm not a fan of Decathlon. Affordable yes, unfortunatly cheap. Not a one time thing...
It is budget, but they’re nowhere close those are two very different jackets. Cut, texture, thread type, down type, etc. when it comes to your warm stuff don’t mess around if it’s vital, go proven.
Down is the same. RDS certified 800 fill down. You’re saying you will pay $200 more to get a different texture and thread? Also tons of hikers use Decathlon. It’s proven. Brand name doesn’t equal proven. I’ve tested enough brand name junk to know that.
Thats not true. They are made in different places. Cheap providers often have the cheapest supply chain... i.e. When you buy theirs you get to enter a covenant with them to pay workers pittance, have terrible conditions and long hours so you can have that cheap jacket...
Ghost whisperer is made in nine different places, China, Vietnam, Korea and six other Asian countries. Columbia Sportswear has nothing made in the USA anymore and as the parent company to Ghost Whisperer, neither are they and they haven’t been for countless years. Most of the name brand stuff comes straight from the same factory as off label brands like Decathlon. I stoped using Mountain Hardware products when they sold out to Columbia Sportswear years ago
Is decathlon super reliable and durable aka well made? Probably not. Yet it so far hasn't let me down and for ppl on a budget or ppl just starting out and hence not sure if they will stick to the hobbies it's a god sent. You can also bet ur ass that they have any and everything in some form. Aside from rectangular tarps My air mattress held up for years until I replaced it for something warmer, the boots held a good two years too. And I'll soon head there to get some additional equipment for my first solo hike in Norway and I can't afford all the stuff from more expensive places (fleece, themo underwear, plane bag for my pack, rain poncho, trecking poles and a washbag(which I'll mostly use for stationary scoutgroup camps), should be about 100€ +- all together, which is what I'd pay for one item from bigger/quality brands)
Name brand names always screw you out of your money.. because a name brand says I got money and I'm better than you. My A frame pop up 4 person tent by Ozark trails. Seal the seams!¡

As much as I like Decathlon and will spend over $1000 soon on few things, these jackets are not the same. 😂
I’d buy D with my own money, that doesn’t make them the same 😂
honestly found the build quality of decathlon really bad
Man I almost made it thru my hike but collapsed from exhaustion 200 feet from the finish because my jacket weighed 2oz more. 😢😂
@@Tyradius I see your humor but its actually a real thing. Add 2 ounces to a jacket a pound to a pack a pound and half to your tent. And soon you have a 30 pound pack before food. Tell me how exhausted you are hauling a base weight of 30 vs 8?
@@ironpig701 how did a 2 pound and 10 ounces difference become a 22 pound difference?
@@orionfell read my reply. You keep buying the "cheaper" things that are the "same" yeah they are the same minus the weight. Replace all your light gear for the cheaper stuff and if every thing added a 1/2 pound to pound to up to 5 pounds for packs and bags how heavy is your pack?
Decathlon is awesome i get a lot of top notch sports gear from them.
Trail series running gear was great but those jackets are even awesome or Winter sports cross country and endurance skiing (skating).
They delivered my order to my PO Box when the post office was closed which ended up who knows where and then tried to put it on me. SMH
My wife bought a cheaper rei down jacket and it's a fn pos. Wasn't warm at all
As someone that worked for Decathlon for three years: the '100' range tends to be cheap.
Need to be introduced to a jacket??
@@rfcbass6810 no ofcourse not. I'm talking about a system used for the whole lineup. Not every item fits in a neat little box.
As for the jacket, it's for introducing people to hiking/camping. It's not focused on the experienced mountaineer, but for the French guy going for a week in the Alps on his spring vacation.
900 is the real stuff, like you say sometimes better than most brands and half the price
Not always true. For the MTxxx down jackets it's based on the temperature rating. A higher number means suitable for lower temperature.
Is the link in your bio an affiliate link? If so, are you getting paid if the public buys something using your link?
What hat is that you have on? I want one of those!
Rahul gandhi angrej version 😂😂
They never carry XXL+ sizes. So kinda like a moot point. 🐄
You forgot that the "movement" his neighbors and friends saw was Mr. Whitmore trying to RELOAD AND GO AFTER MORE REDCOATS!
Yeah but Patagonia will last 10x longer and you know it me im sponsored!
Now do one for 25” sleeping pads please 🙏
We’ve got a shop in the uk called mountain warehouse. Good affordable kit for most regular weekend warriors
Nope I’ll I just get the name brand one used on eBay
I'm too stupid to use real outdoor brands! Lol.
A big difference might lie in the animal treatment for the down jacket. Animals are plucked alive multiple times :(
And when one of my clients boot sole descintagrates on day 2 of a trek in Greenland that she paid 8000$ for. I'm not a fan of Decathlon. Affordable yes, unfortunatly cheap. Not a one time thing...
A commercial telling you not to watch the other commercial 🙄
That decathlon jacket is warm af I got one
This is nothing compared to luxury brands
It is budget, but they’re nowhere close those are two very different jackets. Cut, texture, thread type, down type, etc. when it comes to your warm stuff don’t mess around if it’s vital, go proven.
Down is the same. RDS certified 800 fill down. You’re saying you will pay $200 more to get a different texture and thread? Also tons of hikers use Decathlon. It’s proven. Brand name doesn’t equal proven. I’ve tested enough brand name junk to know that.
Tog24 makes excelent gear and in uk brand from the yorkshire
Best sponsor he could find?
Clearly not the same material, i will tell you now, with jackets you are paying for more durable material for sure.
Goretex?😂
If the link no longer works and you no longer work with the company , why not just remove the video ?!!!?
Too much stitching - cold spots every line of stitching through the insulation.
Did you know brands that exploit cheap chinese child and prison work forces are often surprisingly affordable?
Breh he said 99$ for the cheap one? And the brand ones are 50$
Mountsin hardwear looks awesome.....
Right. Lazy Americanism. Production means, wages, chemicals etc... Decathlon is a shame in that sense
And if your really not stupid you can also get one without branding for 20-30…
Decathlon for the win
Factory sales. Got a $300 OR puffy for $60.
Decathlon will sell you gear worth 10 dollars for 9 times bigger price
Even cheaper if you go to Temu
They are not the same and you know it. Sad that a knowledgeable person like you resort to such cheap tricks.
Tell me how they are different?
I’ll pay for brand anyway
There are also things like an environmental guarantee that some name brands have
Is decathlon super reliable and durable aka well made?
Probably not. Yet it so far hasn't let me down and for ppl on a budget or ppl just starting out and hence not sure if they will stick to the hobbies it's a god sent.
You can also bet ur ass that they have any and everything in some form. Aside from rectangular tarps
My air mattress held up for years until I replaced it for something warmer, the boots held a good two years too.
I just need a jacket that's thin, warm, and waterproof and I'm sure I can find one on amazon for less.
Name brand names always screw you out of your money.. because a name brand says I got money and I'm better than you. My A frame pop up 4 person tent by Ozark trails. Seal the seams!¡
Mountain Hardwear is owned by Columbia so there’s that.
