Being a BORING season doesn't mean it wasn't full of (now) Iconic queens. The boring season can be attributed to several things, bad production, bad editing, bad writers or just a not so funny bunch of queens, but I would have to say it wasn't the queens fault, it was more on the production side IMO.
The challenges were some of the most awkward and poorly conceptualized in the history of the show. They truly were asked to spin garbage into gold and it's not their fault that they couldn't. Also i think ppl forget season 7 was the switch to VH1s production company and the change of format for Untucked and those resulted in jarring changes as well.
Season 7 also had nothing but constant group acting challenges which was beyond frustrating as a viewer and seeing the queens scramble with having to do the same thing over and over again. Violet said it all in that confessional where she was sick of these acting challenges and having to work with people that are not herself.
One could then say that violets intentions were set on winning, no matter what was going on around her… it proves your determination plus the willingness to learn and adapt can truly let you accomplish anything. It helps when you’re the embodiment of perfect too 😀
The problem is not Violet saying (or not) that Katya was a filler queen, the problem is that Katya didn't believe in herself enough at that time, and that's sad because even without confidence she is amazing.
It's mind boggling there's this perpetual critique that S07 was a 'bad season', 'boring', or 'talentless.' It's one of the best seasons there's ever been and so many great queens came out of that #facts
Right? Jasmine, Katya, Trixie, Kennedy, Ginger… so many iconic queens packed like sardines! Not a filler queen among them. It’s that rare season where even the early outs were queens I could see doing very well had they not tripped up on something specific or misunderstood the assignment.
The issue isn't the queens at all it's the production and the absolute zero percent thought that went into the casting production. After the big social media boom for drag queens after season 6 with Adore they decided to focus on more social media esthetic queens WHICH IS FINE, Violet Chachki, Pearl, Max, Miss Fame, Kandy Ho even Katya to some extent were all queens who focused heavily on their esthetics, which again IS FINE. But it all goes to hell when production decided that a majority of the season was going to be acting challenges and comedy challenges when they pulled a group of esthetic based queens, they should have put together a season that focused more a design or at least style based challenges. For example, episodes 1, 8, and 11 are the ONLY esthetic based/ design challenges of the entire season. They had a design challenge (barely) a makeover and a ball... and I kid you not every episode except those three are comedy acting challenges or something similar. Episode 2 is a performance based semi comedy challenge, episode 3 is a comedy acting challenge, episode 4 is a comedy spoof video, episode 5 is a semi roast/ live comedy challenge, episode 6 is ANOTHER comedy acting challenge, episode 7 is literally Snatch Games, episode 9 is a singing/ acting challenge with a focus on absurd comedy, and lastly episode 10 is a dancing/ choreo challenge. The fact that only ONE non design challenge isn't comedy based is ATROCIOUS! If you cast a bunch of queens who are known for serving style and fashion don't throw 85 comedy acting challenges because they will fall flat. The season is entertaining because the queens are amazing but they should have produced season 7 like 3 with a focus on fashion with a sprinkle of comedy challenges.
I really don’t get why people dislike S7. We had the old queens vs new queens drama. The Shakesqueer bomb. The beard runway and Jasmine and Kennedy’s takes on their beards. “Do I have something on my face?”. Suuuch a fun dramatic season.
well I think she could’ve been on Trixies level of fame but she had issues with her management (her ex boyfriend at the time who I think fucked her iver big time) and some other stuff too :( it’s sucks cuz she seems so so cool and just different and she genuinely could’ve made a name for herself ahhh who knows maybe she still could.
It's because she was going to Laganga levels of acting when she was in drag, like there was no rest from the grating, over-enthusiastic/dramatic transatlantic accent and "OHOHOHOOOO" laughing and head bobbling. People want to see the queen for who they are, loving what they do, while they do it. Any actor can seem like they love what they're doing, and it just seems especially fakey when Max's drag persona in general is very clearly a character she's _acting_ as.
Love Max. No seriously, I want more Max and I have identified so much with her. Mental health and well being first though. We’re not owed anything from her but I love Max.

Early seasons queens would tear that poor baby apart. Her anxiety was affecting her really badly during her season, she was struggling with her sobriety and dealing with imposter syndrome. I think those earlier seasons would have stressed her out way too much. That was back when contestants were raw, brutal and cut throat with each other. She'd be lucky if someone called her a filler queen because girls back then would read you for chapters back then and pick apart all of your insecurities. I dont think I'd want her in that environment for her mental health and sobriety's sake. She got the perfect season to make her mark, met Trixie and had a sober companion to help her too.

These are the reasons why I believe the public viewed Season 7 as the most boring season of the time. 1. It followed right after season 4, 5, and 6, 3 of the best seasons of the entire franchise, the epitomes of prime drag race, so the comparison made it seems somehow lackluster. 2. The storyline of that season was not good. At the start of episode 3, the grand storyline of the season was formed, the bitter old lady brigade vs the young fashion queen. It had really good potential to be the next Heathers vs Boogers or Rolaskatox vs Jinkx. But it didn't follow through. Jasmine and Kasha were quickly eliminated, Ginger and Kennedy being bitter, Pearl and Miss Fame being favored while being very quiet, Violet was portrait as being shady and aloof. Katya is the only one who's being absolutely likable and actually have a great story to tell, (her crying to Miss Fame was probably the best moment of the season) but she wasn't in either one of the cliches, so she doesn't have enough screen time. It's like the production got lost as who to promote mid-way. The audience doesn't have a clear vision as who to root for (compare to Sharon, Jinkx, Adore). 3. The most obvious one, too many group acting challenges on a season full of fashion queens. Not showing the queens at the best of light. NOW, people love season 7, because we understand each and every one of them better for the incidents AFTER season 7. Violet's Gag-worthy season 8 finale looks, Pearl declared war against World of Wonders, Jasmine and Kasha being funny on internet, Max showed how she was the most mistreated queen ever, Ginger's singing ability and Kennedy being exceptionally funny, Trixie and Katya becoming the biggest drag name ever. But pretty much non of that happened due to the showing of season 7.
and don't forget the changes they did this season, with the new judges, the absence of the Interior Illusions lounge and the Gold bar, and the performance of the top 3 during the reunion/finale.
Well... the same exact reasoning could be made about Season 8 and how fucking awful it was, but people still claim it wasn't because they like Bob. It's literally factual that people were only mad at the season during the finale and AFTER the season finished because..... the unlikable fashion queen won. (when i say a villain i mean someone who was edited to be a villain.. like phi phi or violet during s7) Violet is by far the closest we've ever gotten to a villain winning which is why it was so hated and why it's only now getting more positive feedback (because the kids understand how they can edit a queen to be shady now)

I love season 7 and Violet is probably my favorite winner. What was wrong with the season 7, I think, is that the show was probably written with a comedy queen winning the season in mind. I think the producers pegged Ginger to win, but Violet’s first runway changed their plans and Ginger wasn’t very likeable. Drag Race is not a competition. They write a show around certain queens with a story in mind. Violet winning a season which was intended for someone else to win is whyI love season 7, plus all the amazing queens!
I don't like gay clubs and I've never been into the drag scene. To this day, Katya is the ONLY Drag Race queen I have met in person, at a gay club. She was everything to me.
Katya is an amazing human being. Violet is a true queen too. My preference is Katya, simply because I identify more w her. I do love Violet's personality. The thing they both have in common is that they are unapologetically genuine to who they are. And that's very rare in today's world.
People love to say it was boring but all the stories that line up, how strict they were, ru being harsh, and production being tight on each queen. But still besides s5 or s9, s7 has the one of the most diverse cast that are now all famous and quoted the most, even scenes from the season get replayed often,

I think it all comes down to the reason why different people watch. Some TV viewers like to see fights, drama, and over the top personalities, which S7 didn't have a lot of. Others (like me) enjoy artistry and showmanship, of which S7 had plenty.

omfg as someone who works as a PA pretty often on productions, I can't tell you how much we do not wanna fight with you to be quiet. We are the bottom of the totem pole on a film set. Don't shoot the messenger if they tell you to be quite while filming. There are thousands of dollars being spent every day during production and PAs are getting paid so much less than everyone else!!!
I think any season that followed season 6 would have been perceived as boring cause season 6 was in my opinion the best season so far. But if you look at season 7 as a standalone season its actually pretty good.
Looking back at it S7 wasnt a bad season the issue was just that it came after S6 which was probably one of the most successful seasons with (in my opinion) the most successful winner and the most successful snatch game, not to mention it had ornacia "I FEEL VERY ATTACKED" etc etc
Season 7 was the first season of Drag Race I watched in real time and it set 👏🏼 The 👏🏼 Bar. Other than season 8 and 10…I haven’t really seen a future that came close. It was all down hill after 7.
this is so random but I will say- I was on ONE episode of wheel of fortune and I lost and legit I could not calm down for like a month. one episode. They dont tell you how jarring certain things can be.

more than made up for the “boring” run with unhh and pitstop moments between trixie, katya, kennedy and violet.
Season 7 was the best season for me the drama and the way they all just meshed together
Katya is an amazing human being. Violet is a true queen too. My preference is Katya, simply because I identify more w her. I do love Violet's personality. The thing they both have in common is that they are unapologetically genuine to who they are. And that's very rare in today's world.
People love to say it was boring but all the stories that line up, how strict they were, ru being harsh, and production being tight on each queen. But still besides s5 or s9, s7 has the one of the most diverse cast that are now all famous and quoted the most, even scenes from the season get replayed often,

I think it all comes down to the reason why different people watch. Some TV viewers like to see fights, drama, and over the top personalities, which S7 didn't have a lot of. Others (like me) enjoy artistry and showmanship, of which S7 had plenty.

omfg as someone who works as a PA pretty often on productions, I can't tell you how much we do not wanna fight with you to be quiet. We are the bottom of the totem pole on a film set. Don't shoot the messenger if they tell you to be quite while filming. There are thousands of dollars being spent every day during production and PAs are getting paid so much less than everyone else!!!

Looking back at it S7 wasnt a bad season the issue was just that it came after S6 which was probably one of the most successful seasons with (in my opinion) the most successful winner and the most successful snatch game, not to mention it had ornacia "I FEEL VERY ATTACKED" etc etc
Season 7 was the first season of Drag Race I watched in real time and it set 👏🏼 The 👏🏼 Bar. Other than season 8 and 10…I haven’t really seen a future that came close. It was all down hill after 7.
