I remember the day that I sang for my father's funeral and I'm going to tell you from someone who lost a parent it's very difficult to stand in the face of a crowd while everybody is watching. My father wasn't as popular as Miss Franklin however I had a whole city and National Organizations watching for a three day-long celebration for Bishop. And it is very difficult to sing in front of all those people. So kudos to this man for having the guts and the courage to sing in front of the world to your own Mom. God bless you what a beautiful tribute from son to a mom.

my mom died of pancreatic cancer 16 years ago I sang in her funeral but after the repast and everyone left I wanted to die too and had a breakdown cause that song still in my head to this day

Eddie is a good singer..he has range and vocal agility..listen to the Christmas song he did with Aretha. The ONLY thing I have to say is.....I think the song was a wrong choice....1. It's not an Aretha song..she does have gospel music too.....2.The setting wasnt right for that so the emotion he was aiming for was difficult.....but it's a hard task. I sung at my dad's funeral..wasn't on program....when they asked I didn't think I'd be able to..I thought my knees would buckle and it would be over..so I declined..while sitting there holding my mothers hand I realized ....painful it will be..but Im singing for dad he was a very good singer himself.... Eddie is a good singer..he has range and vocal agility..listen to the Christmas song he did with Aretha. The ONLY thing I have to say is.....I think the song was a wrong choice....1. It's not an Aretha song..she does have gospel music too.....2.The setting wasnt right for that so the emotion he was aiming for was difficult.....but it's a hard task. I sung at my dad's funeral..wasn't on program....when they asked I didn't think I'd be able to..I thought my knees would buckle and it would be over..so I declined..while sitting there holding my mothers hand I realized ....painful it will be..but Im singing for dad he was a very good singer himself....
GOD BLESSED US REAL GOOD IN THAT THERE CHURCH HOUSE...so I get it totally.....just wrong song.. no connection with what she was about. I mean no insult at all..like I said..this boy has the pipes. Crazy emotions make u off in your decision making. Maybe he should've sung one of favorites childhood songs she said she loved....THE DAY IS PAST....she recorded it with Chess Records. Aretha never sung secular at anyones funeral not even at other celebs that were secular singers..she took them to church and pointed the family towards God for comfort...she tore it up at Luther's funeral..and didnt have to sing If This World Were Mine to honor him.
James philosophy: YOU BETTER KNOW IT. I would have chosen : SAY A LITTLE PRAYER FOR ME AND DONE IT IN MY VOICE RANGE. Maybe it was a last minute thing.

The Queen's going home service was great I watch the beginning to the end but when Stevie hit that harmonica I broke down it got serious for me then that was a beloved great tribute and thank him for the old friends of Aretha who came out and pay tribute to sing to her because there was so many that were missing and I know As Stevie says she's with the Most High now R.
