    Good evening gorgeous folks!
I was gifted this cream CowHide by my cousin and could not wait to include it in a recipe.
It’s fair to say I’ve not had this in a very long time and prefer this pale cream looking Wele/Ponmo as it was scalded, shaved and par boiled.
Please note it’s best to avoid Wele/Ponmo that are smoked with Tyres (which are riddled with chemicals not fit for human consumption) and instead opt for the wood smoked ones or the cream looking ones.
Naturally I had to prepare my favourite Okro soup which had loads of requests for the recipe.
    I hope you enjoy this!
PS: Please leave comments below if you know where one can source Wele/Ponmo from in diaspora.
    Thank you.
Full list of ingredients and measurements are available on my blog 👇🏾

Looks delicious. It looks similar to what we call supa kanja (okra soup) in Senegal and The Gambia. We tend to eat it with fufu made of flour (my favourite) or with plain boiled rice. As I don't eat meat, I will just omit out the cow hide, but love the fish. I love the West African culinary exchange. You gave us okra soup and we gave you Jollof rice. Mali gave us maafe/domoda, and Nigeria gave us akara. Sending love from the Senegambia region.

Fafa, if you’re in Virginia, USA, you can get cowhide from J n J international market in Woodbridge. I’m sure the African shops would also have some, but I usually buy them from JnJ, they hv nice soft ones and “kotojwe” and crabs n “adwene” and all.

Fafa, sorry ooo but I have to correct you. Cow hide contains a lot of collagen which is great for maintaining skin elasticity. That is why black don't crack, our skin maintains it's elasticity :). Korean skincare followers actually chew pig skin to preserve their collagen levels. Love u as always

Actually Kponmo is pretty healthy, it's good for the skin and hair! Animal skin, feet and tail usually have the most collagen and gelatin wich of course are protein. Another source is tendons and keenees, and other joints that are used for stewing/eating. It's probably one reason why we dont age like certain people who don't eat those things. Kponmo is a very economical and clever way to add extra protein to the diet.
