- This video is after getting my new Boss RC-600 and playing it for 2 shows. My system keeps evolving and i'm already looking into supplimental pedals to suit my needs and amplify all the new tricks the RC-600 can do. Lots to learn and add, but consider this my first impression and first installment!
If you're a looper, keep the questions coming! It's been great to connect with so many new loopers and hear about your set ups! For a pedal that can do so much, it will be key to establish systems to suit each musician.
Keep the questions coming! Excited to learn and improve on this new updated Boss flagship loop station!

Love that I found this... wanted to ask you exactly all these questions on your Twitch streams but obviously this format you can give the more in depth answers I was looking for about the RC-600. Cheers Emily! :D
Oh yes!!! Thank you so much for coming by! If you have some specific questions, let me know :)
Looking forward to being able to catch a stream soon to hear it in action with requests. It's nice to see the progression.
I love this video, Emily! It's really going to help a lot of people who are interested in this new pedal. Thank you for doing this comparison!
Aww thanks friend! Even as I was editing this first comparison, I am discovering new things. So I’ll have to make some supplements as I go along! Thanks for checking it out 🥰🥰🥰
Yes so so helpful thank you so much as I'm going to take my first looper purchase soon ! Thanks Emily!
Super helpful, thank you. Glad I recently came across your channel and found another serious live looper.
Yay! Glad to hear it Marc :) thanks for writing!
This video confirms my suspicions......nobody makes a looper the way I would. I sometime wonder if the designers are players or performers at all. Live performance functionality is way more important than features to me personally.
Love what you do, and take inspiration from your performances. - Cheers
Aww Joe! Love hearing this. And I kind of agree. It’s filled with so many flashy features, when the bread and butter needs to be so simple. I’m interested in how you do things? Tell me about ur music!
Thanks for all the work that went into this video! I've been thinking of upgrading from an RC-30 into an RC-300 and initially thought the RC-600 was too complicated vs. the three pedals on the RC-300, but I think your video just changed my mind.
Oh nice! Ya you can totally do it!
Love your vibe and this video, thanks Emily - very helpful!!
Oh excellent!! Glad to hear it! 🤘😆❤️
Thanks for the comparison! can't wait to get mine in the mail!
Congrats! It’s got a lot of stuff to dive into, but really fun. Excited for you :)
I really appreciate how much effort you put into making this video. Thanks!!!
Aww friend! You’re so kind to say that. I hope to keep getting better the more I make. Thanks for checking it out ❤️
I'm all done with Boss loopers and their antiquated small screen menu diving... Got rid of my RC-600 for a Headrush Looperboard... Huge improvement in ease of use and workflow...
Sounds like a good move for you! The Boss screens are super tiny ….😔
Yes, now if only they had the same reliability I would agree. With the RC-600, you set it up at home and gig with it when its done being setup. You Can NOT create a workflow on stage.
Interesting! I decided to program my undo/redo as my input FX toggle button. Right now i have it set to the bass/lower octave effect.
Oh that’s cool! I’d love to see it in action!
Hello. I have a problem. I bought a new Boss RC 600 looper. On my computer I have songs made on my old Boss RC 50 looper. How do I make the RC 50 wav files work on the RC 600? Because so far the RC 600 looper shows the message FILE NOT SUPPORTED. And I have a lot of trouble, because there are 10 songs that are not easy. RC 600 wav file and RC 50 wav file. But in the RC 50 I mostly have MONO files, or is that a problem? And some settings need to be made .. tips. Please. I have a recital in a few days ..
Thanks! just what I’ve been looking for, a great comparison👏🏻
Oh good! I wa so accustomed to the 300, I definitely feel like I’m always comparing to that. This was pretty early on. Might need an update on how it’s been for the past few months now that I’m more acclimated to this one
I'm in the market for either of these pedals, and found your video to be both intertaining and informative. I also love your voice! You got a new subscriber.
Benjamin you’re a sweetheart! Thanks for saying hi and I’m so glad you’re digging the videos :)
Heyyyy Emily! Love your videos! I’ve been using the RC-30 and always wanted to upgrade to RC-300, but now this new baby got me by surprise… Can’t wait to see more of it!! Keep being amazing! 👏💜
Oh awesome Rafa! It works in your favor that they are making these features better and better. I just heard there an update to claim. We’re living in a world of tech now haha
@@EmilyMcVicker hell yeah!!! We gotta make the best with what we have! Can't wait to get my hands (and feet) on the RC-600, but it will take quite some time for it to get to Brazil and it will surely be really expensive!! Thank youuu 💜💜💜
This was very helpful - thanks Emily!
Oh awesome! Glad to hear it Lindsey! Working it out one bit at a time :)
Very helpful. I have RC-300 for around 10 years, now thinking to switch to RC600, your video helped. I like your thinking about pros and cones...
There are some strong pros and still some cons. I hope they iron out the firmware in the 600 so that it works for everyone. Still feels like it’s a bit of a work in progress. But I’ve stuck with it and like some of the new things it can do
I am so glad I found this channel! I have an RC300 but I only use 10% of it at a few shows. I definitely need to jump into it! Thanks for this comparison.
Oh ya! The 300 is a great pedal!
I have some some song breakdown videos using the 300 that you might like! Let me know if they inspire you!
@@EmilyMcVicker I’ll go check them out! I am loving the content in your channel, you are such a talented musician and very creative in your loop performances
This is so helpful! Thank you!
You’re so welcome!! Glad it’s useful!
You could always put the sustain pedal on the right side of the 600 and work backwards starting with loop 3 and work down. Did it all the time with the 300 because of where the expression pedal and effects button were located.
That would also help with hitting the nob on the track 3
oh thats a really good idea! might have to try that. for some reason that sounds lefthanded to me haha but kind of a brilliant work around. just have to change my habits
Love the boots. Yes, I am all for hearing the 300 and the 600 together a bizzallen peddles. As with anything new, it's a learning curve can't wait to see how you developed new muscle memory with the 600 and listen to you playing live. As always love hearing how you create music from songs you write yourself to covers.
I borrowed some supplemental pedals from CJ so I can have my cake and eat it too :) mega pedal! Haha
Not sure if I. Going to sell RC 300 or not
Im a fulltime musician, been using an RC300 since it came out10/11 years ago. Just bought a RC600, Im tech savey, but this thing has alot going on and I wanna start gigging with it asap. Your vids are by faaarrrr the best on the the net. Thanks sista, your a legend....
Oh snap that is a real compliment! I was so used to the 300. It felt like another instrument to me. Definitely a little learning curve with this one, but I’m sure you’ll be able to hit the ground and running and figure out as you go. I’m interested to hear how you decide to set yours up! Really nice to meet you :)
Nice informative Vid! I saw on one of JohnPaul Music UK vids that you can change the track select switch to cycle through each mode with a single click for faster access to the effects. I have my RC 600 coming on Wednesday. I’m excited. Been watching your stuff for inspiration.
Oh awesome thank you! Yes I finally figured it out this morning, someone in a nice Facebook forum helped me out with that. I love the teamwork! Thank you for your comment and I’m so glad you enjoy the videos :-)
Great review, Emily. Thank you!
My pleasure! Thanks for checking it out!
Awesome presentation. I still have the RC 300 but thinking to get the 600.
The 300 is great just a little behind in terms of sound quality. Definitely a little learning curve transitioning my brain to. A new pedal haha
Thank you Emily for a great video ,very informative 👍
Oh good! Probs time to do an update to this one. I’ve been using the 600 for over 6 months now! Lots to love. Still some things I would change.
Great clip, Emily. A good help for people like me, who want to start with with looping on a more professional level. Iwill follow you for more tutorials. By the way ... i don't care if you put the two looper together, since I only will buy one of them ... better use your time for more instructional stuff ....thanks a lot and greez from Germany. 😊
Hey! Okay good to know 😜 ya I’d definitely recommend for someone who has played w loopers before. Might be a little more challenging for beginners. Still be good, but could take more time getting comfortable
you can change up what the 4 switches all do... may be helpful to put the memory jog switch in the 2nd slot and something a little less dramatic if accidentally pressed in knob number 1. I hooked up my 505Mk2 to my 600 via Midi and it's an absolute blast to play it all together. The FX and bounce-features are where this thing shines.
These are great ideas! Thank you!
I swapped my track select switch, and all start/Stop buttons. So the start/stop is on the left, and track select is on the right. And I also did what Katie Dwyer said and changed the Undo/Redo to turn on an effect.
Yes! I need to order a label maker and I think I’m gonna copy you! ❤️👍 brilliant!
Hey Emily, I'm used to the 300, with all the tracks the same length ( the lenght of the first track), do you know if the RC-600 can be limited that way? thanks
I met you at the SEA Airport a few years ago, you were performing (fantastically!) using the RC 300 looper. I was looking to buy an RC 600 and happened across your vid here. So glad to see you're doing great, and I'm in for the 600.
Oh holy smokes! What a small world. That was such a lovely gig at the airport. I used to be there about once a week. Super sweet of you to write ❤️ keep in touch my friend!
I was just at seatac airport an hour ago, no idea you were from the area
Thank you for sharing this video. As always, I´m very impressed by your voice. You have an amazing voice. So I´m really curious, what we can expect from you, working with the harmonizer. I´m really interested in using the RC 600, but for now, I´m still happy with my RC 300. I would love to see a video, where you connect these two.
Yes I feel you! I still have a love for the 300. But the 600 has been a fun wrench to throw into the machine :-)
Thanks for that Demo. I hope Boss takes your upgrade advice, they should.
Thanks friend! I hope so too. I keep adding to my list of suggestions for them haha
Nice video Emily. It will help when my Rc600 arrives. I will probably use my voicelive-play-gtx for vocal effects.
Oh cool! That machine has nice effects. I like the effects on the 600, just need to access them a little quicker! Trying to decide how I’m gonna do that
@@EmilyMcVicker I'd be following your video's. There're very nice and instructive. Thanks
Thanks for the help! :)
Yay glad it helps! Thanks for checking it out Robby :)
Hey Emily. I believe John Paul had a video on assigning the effects using the 3rd mode with one tap instead of holding it down. Never had the 300 but I did have the VL3 so this going to be a learning curve for me and some getting use to with so many buttons! Lol. Thanks for your helpful content!
Snap! John Paul from Canada??? I love that guy! Yes, I think I’m going to switch to the one top, or use a supplemental expression pedal to get to the effects. We’ll see! I keep trying stuff :-)
@@EmilyMcVicker lol same! Interested to see what you come up with on the expression pedal. I have an expression pedal in my set up and use it for volume and wah but I don't know how the heck I'm going to set this beast up just yet! Lol happy looping!
you may get to this later in the video, but there's a different mode for the mode selector button. I hate having to wait to use the 3rd mode, so I changed the mode to the incremental one, instead of the default click between 1/2 and hold for effects on 3. easier just to click through them 1-2-3-1... need to update that button on all 3 modes to get it accomplished
sorry that wasn't clear. pedal mode inc is the setting you can swap out on pedal 7 if you want to use the effects... or... use the setup I created... one mode which lets you record and stop the target track, buttons to inc/dec target track, and the rest of the buttons for input effects so you can quickly cycle between effects while recording across different tracks, and not have to leave the mode. Gaaah I'm such a geek. I love these loopers!
Ah yes I hear ya! I get into this on my next video. Still editing :) thanks for the tips! I agree about the holding. I might add some expression pedal supplements as well
Thank you so much for the video:)
You’re so welcome friend! Glad u like 🥰
YES, of course we want to see what happens when link both loop stations together :) Great discussion!
Haha i might be more compelled to link my 600 to the 505. Potential video in the works! 😜👍
I'm wondering maybe to take care of that miss hitting the button is maybe have bigger pads on a looping buttons like you had on the 300. I was wondering maybe you can change the colour assignment or maybe have a polarizer lens on the light to make them more colour distinctive.
Those are great ideas! I just found how to customize the lights. But, you know, I think I might be able to change the knob functions. And even moving that knob over to any of the others would help. It is on the list of things I’m trying to find!
My oh my This takes time to wrap my head around it
Oh weird. That sounds serious 😳 might need to consult the store you got it from or a Roland rep for that one. I don’t keep anything saved on mine. But I know it has many hours of memory so it sounds like something is really wrong
@@EmilyMcVicker solved my stupidity shhh
Great review!!
👍👍👍 might have to do an update now that I’ve been using for over a year
Great video, they make XLR foot switches in order to use one mic but it’s tricky I tried a few ways but I had to use a mic pre amp. I wonder if the 600 has a EQ for micing in.
Oh interesting! Yes the mike has its own EQ on the 300. I’m only using one of mic inputs at the moment
Hi Emily - great video! have a question on the effects. I have one of these and am struggling a little to get my head around the difference between input and track effects. If I use input effects - I hear what I am expecting (eg a harmony) while playing however, when I play it back, it is “dry” no effect. It seems you have to match the input effect and the track effect. Is there any way to get R600 to play back what you looped in plus the effect you had on at the time you recorded it? I should point out that I am using it in free mode (so one track plays after the other sequentially, not multiple tracks over one another (multi mode) , so that I can do verse, bridge, chorus)? Andy
Hey Andy, sounds like the input effects would be on the instruments/vox coming in vs. assigning effects to the tracks of the loop as they play back. Is it working properly?
When I loop parts that have input effects on them, the effected sound is what gets looped. I need to tinker with the track effects more, but the assigned track FX should only apply to the tracks you assign.
I’d be interested to see how you arrange with your tracks in a sequence like that. It’s not how I arrange but I know many people do work that way so I’d be curious
I just bought a 300 for 200 bucks. I'm enjoying it. Thanks for the tips.
Good job! Great price, great pedal! You’re gonna love it 🙌🙌🙌
Internet is such a blessing jejeje I just found out about your channel because of looking at this pedal in sweatwater's page... I recently got my car stolen and it had the RC-300 lost with it, so' I was looking getting a new looper and I think I'm going with this one. I loved this review and am looking forward to knowing more about your music and loops and hopefully learning from your music. I hope you are doing good, greetings from Puerto Rico. - José Eduardo Santana
José! Im so sorry that happened to you! I would absolutely recommend the 600. It takes a while to switch over and get used to a new lay out (at least for me!) but it sounds great and I’m glad I switched
@@EmilyMcVicker thank you for taking the time and replying! I did bought it and even though I've barely scratched the surface, the sound quality is way better and it still feels friendly even though there is a difference in the stomp buttons. I'm having a great time knowing it, just practicing with it and watching lots of videos to get the best out of it. Nice to meet you, keep on the awesomeness.
@@joseduardomusic Don't leave it in the car this time!!!
Were you able to figure a way to get to the effects section quicker? I switched the track select to just cycle through tracks 1-3, tracks, 3-6 and effects on/off, with a single tap for each. Ie from track 1-3, tap twice and you are now accessing effects.
Yes! I did that too and u like it better. Still it would be nice to have the effects even more readily available. I got an FS-6 that I am adding. And it can coordinate with the effects I’ve picked. I probably don’t need crazy effects, but a couple simple ones will make a big impact. I just need to be able to get to them at any time
u can program any colors u want into any light and there are many colors to choose from
Yes!!! Thank you!
I played a festival last weekend with an outdoor stage and I could hardly see any colors at all lol… but that’s true if any guitar pedals I think
Great video! I’m sticking with the 300. It’s more pedal than I really need anyway
The 300 is great 👍
Auuuugggh! Boss keeps making better and better looper stations! I cant keep up! Thanks for this video😮
Yep! Stepping up the game!
This is the first video I have seen of yours and super love your vibes, sister. All the yes! You now have a new soul sister fan! I've been wanting to add looping to my live gigs and just haven't taken the leap yet. Thanks for the inspiration! Hoping to get this pedal or the 300. If you had to pick one, would it be the 600? Thanks! Looking forward to watching more of your videos. You are killing it girl. So inspiring. Yay YOU!
Aww Laura!!! You are so encouraging and sweet. If you make some videos with a looper, let me know I wanna see :) keep in touch friend!!!
@@EmilyMcVicker Huge heart smile! Yes, that's the plan! I'll be excited to share them with you! Eeeee! Life goals = more videos up! I'm so so grateful to have stumbled upon you. I have heard so many loopers using the same repetition throughout the whole song that I didn't think looping was for me because of the monotony of it. You've changed the game for me and I love your style and arrangement choices. I really appreciate how you build and change the arrangement throughout the song. Clean, exquisite, "simple" in that it doesn't take too long and is so effective & executed so well, and lots of fun! You have a great ear and I'm excited to start my looping adventure by trying out some of your arrangements. Thanks for sharing and love the tutorials too (like the Cups one you did.) Looking forward to supporting you on Patreon and/or Twitch soon. Your music is giving me life! Too much?? Lol. Ah well, you are likely someone that appreciates over-the-top love! From one goofy sprite to another... big hugs!
Thanks for the video, for me is helpful ! I m thinking if buy the RC600...
Glad you enjoyed! Would it be your first looper or are you adapting from another pedal?
@@EmilyMcVicker thanks for your answer! I had the rc3 and rc30, greetings from Spain ♡
One of the first things I did on my 600 was make it so I don't have to long press to get to the FX mode. You can totally make it a tap instead of press to get to that mode.
Yes I agree! I am maybe looking to make the Fx on a supplement pedal so they are always accessible. I agree the long press isn’t very practical. Quick access is key!
Thx ! A small question. How can I add a drum rhythm to a track that only starts by pushing pedal 3 (e.g) ?
Ah yes! I am planning a rhythm demo very soon! I like ur idea. I often put my percussion on a track of its own. I am a beatboxer and use hand percussion for it but I think I know what you’re envisioning. Curious to figure out more with the rhythm tracks!
Good video thank you !
My pleasure! Glad you liked it. I’ve been using it for quite a bit longer now. Might need to make an update
Love your energy. Very talented.
You’re so sweet 🥰 thank you David!
About the volume knob trick (8:51) - I know some musicians that turn the knobs on their pedals from the side of the knob.
For example, it's relatively common with some classic MXR pedals (they come with a dedicated rubber knob cover).
Do you think a similar method can works with the output knob located on the top left side of the Boss RC-600?
Good idea! I’d have to try :)
This is great! I am sure other have commented- I am new to the rehlm of looping. I do a lot of solo acoustic shows and would like to add depth with looping. I plan on utilizing my gigs with looping - would you recommend just goin' with the RC-600 or start from scratch with the RC-1 or similarly a good start with the RC-300? Thank you for your response.
Great video and content. I look forward to more.
Hey Miguel! You know, the 600 or the 300 would be great for you. But they are different sizes and that might be something to consider with any current pedal set up you’re working with. The 300 works so great. But the 600 does have such a clearer sound and higher bitrate and all that. Those would be the biggest factors to consider. If you wanna loop vocals and more than just guitar, I would not recommend any single track loopers like the RC-1 because you’ll grow out of it too fast. That’s my 2 cents :)
Lemme know how it goes!
@@EmilyMcVicker great info - went ahead and snagged the RC-600. I'm pumped. Thanks for the information - keep jammin' and keep up the stellar content. YeeYEE
Thanks- Great video - I was considering getting the rc 600 - But you totally convinced me to stik with the rc 300 ❤ - Did not even know they made a rc 900😅 🙏🤘
So.. on the old RC-300 I only use the bass effect. I have assigned the effects button to the bass effect and when pressed, it is immediate (without holding the button down) for recording on any track - (very easy to quickly record a baseline). Is it possible to create this same scenario on the RC-600 except assign 1 button for the bass effect and another button for the harmony effect? My thoughts are to assign the "Track select" button for the bass effect and the "undo/redo" button for the harmony effect. Is this possible and if so, how do you assign these 2 specific tracks and have the chosen effect work immediately upon pressing on all the other channels which are assigned for recording?
Ya you can totally do that 👍 you can do all the switch assignments the same way. In the pedal modes, you just have to go to the specific switch on the pedal mode of your choosing and scroll through all the options it can do. So you can assign any switch to be the bass FX. You’ll assign bass to one of the input FX (ABCD) and then tell the switch to use that input FX on that switch 🤘😆
Could you swap out the dials with more foot friendly options? Or rubberized them in some way if they're just not grippy enough?
I am hearing about some here in the comments. But I don’t have first hand experience using them yet 🤷♀️. Yes more grippy would be more better 👍
I had the RC1 and still the RC3 and am currently using the RC300. What I really miss is the feature the RC1 has. Loop length lights. You always new where you were in the loop. I do long loops so that is something I miss on the 300. After a little checking I see where the 600 has gone back to that. I have one of these in my shopping cart now.
Sounds like you might prefer a different ‘play screen’ have you scrolled through to see? I like the 3rd one that shows each loop length in the shape of a dial. I found this screen to be really helpful!
Let me know how it goes!
@@EmilyMcVicker I can do that on the 300?
Hi, awesome video thanks. Do you think you can make a comparison between the drum system from the RC-10r and the RC-600, is it the same? How good are the drums in the RC-600
Hey! Hmm I don’t have an rc-10 and I’m not really a big user of the pre-programmed drum tracks. I do know that the ones here in the 600 are the newest and sound the cleanest and with more options. But if you like the ones in the rc-10, that’s great!
You sound awesome and I enjoyed your informational video, thanks
Oh Kim awesome! Kim Zim! Great name 👍
@@EmilyMcVicker that’s what I was called in HighSchool! I’m old now! You can see me singing on you tube Kim zimmerman Jazz hot. So looping is out of my wheelhouse but I’m excited to play and learn!!
Great video!!! 👍
Thank you friend!
Great video! Do you know which power bank I can use for busking with the Rc-600? Thanks!
Hey! That’s a great question! I have the green VOLT power bank I had been using with the 300, but you just brought to my attention that it won’t work with this new one 😅. Which is too bad cuz I like the Volt! Maybe there is a new adapter that could let it plug in
Great video Emily, I just got my 600 2 days ago and I’m having issues I was wondering if you’ve ever had. I’ll set the BPM manually, start FunkDrummer on iOS, click in/out and I’m finding that the 600 is changing the BPM to the timing of my foots clicks. It’s only by +/- .1 to .3 out but as you know, it isn’t going to stay in time with the beat for long. I don’t know any loop fanatic that can nail the beat consistently everytime. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hey Anthony, hmm ya it’s super important that the beat is good. So when u set the beat at the beginning, do you have a click in your ear to keep you on the tempo that you pre-set? I admit I don’t have experience pre-setting tempos. My trick to doing percussion in loops is keep it simple and short so the time doesn’t accordion itself and the song can have a good feel.
@@EmilyMcVicker in perfect timing, they just released the firmware update for my issue. Thank you for your reply Emily. Now I can use the 600 with midi sync and there's not any loop stretching/strange sounds coming from it. Lol it was apparently a bug that they fixed with this update. Happy looping!
As for the colors of the lights, try slightly translucent color tapes. I would start with small strip of yellow over the light. Depending on what color tape you put over the top of the light it would make the colors a little different
oh yes! good trick!
Emily thanks for sharing, your personality rocks ! What is your background from the perspective of becoming so tech savvy?
If only I had local friends like you to collab and jam, that would be 👌 🔥
I too am a singer songwriter, but maybe others here feel me when I express how overwhelming all the technology available today is. Don’t get me wrong it’s amazing, but seriously where does one start with a sea of features in production? You seem to have a confident grip on what’s in front of you so I figured others may enjoy the share as well. Keep killin it, thanks for sharing your talent with us all. 🤘 🎸 🎵 😃👏
Yolo! Aren’t you sweet! I am not usually tech savvy all around, but I started looping out of the need to make it work. I’ve been so lucky to play with some amazing players in different bands that when I started making my solo show, I had some great musical influences to keep in mind.
I did an interview all about it with my friend JP in the UK who also does looping content. Maybe you will like it :)
ruclips.net/video/14WvGyDx3J4/видео.html
Great video, I was wondering if you had to adjust your mic settings to avoid the button click coming through? Is that an sm58 you’re using?
Ya the beta 58 is the loop mic. Didn’t have to adjust yet. The metal isn’t too loud… but one time I noticed it. Might take some practice because it’s not necessary to slam ur foot to play in time right? So I am learning to adjust my finesse :)
awesome 👌
I'm wondering if you know how to set the looper in this way. I've tried heaps but can't quite get there.
Bank 1 loop set to me dialing in a short locked in drum beat so I only need to play it short as poss.
I then want to lock in a loop in bank 2 say for 12 bars.
I want to add another part in bank 3 and for that to be locked in with bank 2 bars.
I feel this free loop doesn't make the banks 2&3 tight enough. I want bank three to come in after recording at the same loop length as I've recorded in bank 2.
Ah i think I understand. Have you tried hitting record on the next track before track 3 has finished playing????
I need to make a video on this. Little complicated to write. But let me know how it goes if you go straight to recoding next track. Or if you’re saying something else, please correct me
I’ve been waiting on this. You have been given a new title… Mentor of all things loop related.
Lol Schweet 😂 I’ll try not to lead you astray! I’ll do what I can tho :)
I am still trying to compare VE 20. VE 200. The RC500 600. I started investigating VE20 as a way adding light effects to my vocal performances in my band, solo etc. I love the idea of getting into looping. my question is if my priority is the effect am I better off with a specialist peddle say EV20
I think with this new pedal, the sound quality is good. I say use ur other pedals with it and i bet it will still sound great.👍
Thank you for this!
I was going to buy an RC 500 to do live sound healing and performing with a duo, but a tech friend said that the 300 would be better for that.
But now having watched this I’m wondering if I should get the 600 ?
Any one know the difference between the 500 and the 600?
🙏🏻
The main difference to me would be the physical lay out. I heard some buggy things about the 500 and wasn’t tempted at all. He nice thing about the 300 and the 600 is the buttons are layer out and accessible. So you can play without fiddling with ur hands. The 600 has noticeably better sound quality if you ask me. But both 300 & 600 are great!
Thank you!
Love your work and energy 🙏🏻🤗
Thanks Em and 'HI' from Australia. Thanks for the info and comparisons. I am new to Looping. In Thinking long term, should I purchase the RC300 or the RC600? Your advice would be greatly appreciated.THANK YOU
Hey Matthew! I bet you the rc-300s are going to be very affordable these days. Especially used! Couldn’t hurt to try on the 300. It’s a great pedal! 600 does have better sound quality, and effects. Id say those are the only areas where it’s superior to the 300. Hope that helps!
Started using the RC-300 expression pedal to fade and now I’m wondering if I’ll miss it when I upgrade to the 600. Might be getting a mini volume pedal after all..🫤
Oh interesting. I never used the expression pedal on the 300, but the 600 is so much smaller, adding one will be just about the same. It’ll just be more expensive 😬😬😬 but it if works the way you want it, it’ll be worth it!
@@EmilyMcVicker yeah, I don’t think I’m going to do that right away. I can’t justify the volume pedal right now cause I didn’t use it enough on the 300. We shall see!
Ok, so... First of all great video. I love how you explain and break things down. So explain me this. LOL. When you are looping up a harmony or any stacked vocal loop, how do you keep your other tracks being played back from bleeding in to your looper on the 300 or 600? I have the 300 current and I'm on the fence big time on upgrading!!! Thank you. I will subscribe and await your reply...
Hey Phillip! Great question. At home, it’s easy cuz I have in ear monitors. At actual gigs it can be tough if you have wedges. I have started using IEMs for live gigs as well. But if you don’t have them yet, you gotta be strategic about how loud your monitors are and the direction they are pointing. And each space is different.
Since I’ve been bringing my IEMs to live shows, my next video will be about routing for gigs. I think it will be useful!
@@EmilyMcVicker Thank you. Yes routing will be super helpful!! I see you are using 2 mics and I never loop vocal because I'm always concerned about bleed from a loop track vocal mic when I open up a track to even record just a guitar part. The mic then becomes hot and introduces the bleed and creates a volume increase. Seems like some people use a gate until they are ready to actually use the 2nd mic? Ugh, too many pedals causes me to look down too much, sing out of tune and miss parts.
Hi Emily. Greetings from Colombia, thanks for your videos. I want to ask you. it is possible to record the independent instruments. I can sing and play the guitar at the same time and only record the voice. it is something that cannot be done in the rc 300.
You definitely can do that. I haven’t dig too deep into the rotting options yet. But I know you can. You d root guitar separate out C one of the Suboutputs. But if you didn’t want to loop it at all, I would bíparas looper an And go direct into whatever system you’re using. Am I answering the right question?
Hi Loopers, I have loved my RC-30. I want to add 1 more track. Will the 600 be user friendly and act like the RC-30 ? I don't need the effects or anything else. Just play a phrase, click, it repeats, then on to track 2 I go. Can I expect this simplicity from the 600 ? Sure would appreciate your thoughts. THX !
Hey! Yes you can absolutely use simply like this. It will also have A LOT more options for you to explore if you feel like it
@@EmilyMcVicker Thank you for your reply. You are so talented !
Thank you, truly for this it was a great review, probably one of the best, I’ve had a 300 for many many many years 11 I think, the 600 we will see how truly hardware it really works, according to most a lot of stuff Hass to happen in software which defeats the purpose of the looper itself, I am a hardware guy
I feel you. I think if finding simple settings that allow you to use it in the ways you need, that’s the trick. Im happy with my lay out now that I’ve customized a little more.
I still can’t work out how to turn effects on and off for each track. Not overly detailed manual and I hope you can cover how to set this up at some stage? Thanks
Ah yes. I haven’t even gotten that far yet. It’s gonna be in the routing stuff. My next video, I’ll try to define some terms and set up basics that might be helpful. I’m trying to learn a bit at a time. Pretty soon we’ll have it figuee to d out!
I am a beginner at looping so would the Boss RC 600 be a good peddle to get and do my shows with ?
Hey Steven! Im sure you would succeed at any pedal you choose if you practice. I think you might love the rc300 tho if you’re just starting. For me the biggest hurdle to the 600 is the customizable stuff and deciding what you want to do with it. So when you’re just starting and you might not know what you’re gonna need.
I used the 300 for years and it’s great 👍
I have a question about sending BPM signal to a drummer's headphones or into Laptop (with Ableton): how to synchronize a loop station and drummer or Ableton?
That’s a great question. I haven’t gotten quite that deep. But I would mix one of the sub outputs to be for drummer and design their mic that way. I am interested to know how the midi and ableton would work with it.
Keep in touch!
Love this vid!
My guitarist brain is telling me to suggest the 'Cusack pedal cracker', and build a small board for your effects. I just purchased my first multi track looper and I'm thrilled to find you as resource!
Oh that’s awesome! What looper did you choose? I will have to look up that cusack pedal cracker device 👍
@@EmilyMcVicker I'm doing the ehx 95000 for now, its MIDI works with my Mod-Rex really well because they're the same company
i Wonder, if i can assign different rhythms to different Tracks? and Play Tracks subsequently (Change at loop end).please let me know
Oh interesting. I don’t use the subsequent loops myself. But I bet you can. I might look into that and see how that would work
Great video!! I was wondering if you knew if it is more friendly about being the midi clock slave rather than master, the 300 needed some serious workarounds.
Ah yes. I tried on the 300 linked to another players for a while and the secondary pedal never worked quite right. So I decided to only use one. Haven’t tried with this new pedal yet.
@@EmilyMcVicker Gotcha, well I have a 600 out for delivery right now so I'll try it out and see what's up :)
Thanks!!
I play bass and guitar, and I'm looking to perform with a looper which I can use with both instruments without having to run everything into a single channel in the PA. In other words, I'd like to play my bass through the bass amp, and guitar through the guitar amp, while leaving free PA channels for drums from the looper and live vocals. So far I've tried to make do with a Ditto X2. The RC600 seems like the answer to my prayers, but could I get away with something less elaborate?
Interesting. So you still wanna play through amps first, but mic them to go into the looper?
Sounds like the 600 would actually make it set up simpler. I don’t know how many other pedals you might be using with ur loops, but it does have the two xlr inputs and it sounds like you could use them. Unless ur amps have a signal out you could plug into the 1/4” inputs
Good Job, looked it till the end :D -- Is the harmonizer able to hamonize in the scale I gave him (importend for especially the third...) or did he always harmonize the same Interval ?
Yea! You can chose if you want the harmony above or the harmony below the voice. Click the > to go to the next page of options
@@EmilyMcVicker thx, but that's not what I like to know ... I mean if we are in Cmaj, does it make a major third on a C and a minor third on a A for example.. ?
Wow great demo think I want one
Fun times!!
@@EmilyMcVicker haha I said 'think' I'm buying one today 😅 thank you very much 😊
Thank you for the video, I own a Digitech for simple jobs and the 300 witch I like, I was curious about the 600, maybe you can answer my question, I'm looking to be more efficient on the synch of the loop, I play Brazilian Latin music so a lot of upbeat grooves, I like to start the loop with percussion so Im wondering of the 600 are able to detect the tempo (quantize without ruining ..lol) then play right away so I can add more stuff... thanks in advance, thumbs up up up and you got a new sub... :)
Hey! Your music sounds awesome! Yep 600 can do it just like the 300 👍
@@EmilyMcVicker Thank you for your compliment about my music, and thank you for your feedback about the loops, I'll definitely consider to get a 600 soon!
Hi Emily, is it possible to use this only with headphones? I have a guitar+bass setup that I would like to use only with headphones or monitors, also no guitar or bass amp
Thanks!! Very nice video
Yes! There’s a headphones input right on the pedal. It just requires a bigger 1/4” jack
Yeah! Go RC-900! Great video...I have the RC-300 and recently got the 505MKII! This works great! You can get a pedal board like the Airstep and fix all your problems with the 505MKII.
Oh! That’s great to know!! Thank you 🤘😆 what pedal did you get to supplement?
and yet none of these things take away from your shining personality coming through
❤️🫶❤️
I am new to looping. And I am ready to purchase one. Would you suggest I start with the RC 300? I do like the foot pedal design.
the 300 has a much simpler lay out. But I think you’re okay starting w 600. Mainly cuz it sounds so much better with the higher but rates and all that. The tricky part for you is deciding what you want the pedal to do for you without the prior experience. I say start somewhere and tweak as u go - that’s my moto!
@@EmilyMcVicker thank you!!!!
2 questions
1: have you found out how to route the mic from the looper into the desk? (No longer needing 2 mics)
2: do daws like logic pro x recognize this as an audio interface for Recording? (Not just storing and saving loops)
Hey! Thanks for the questions. at this time, i'm stil plugging my lead singer mic t(the SM7b) direct, and using my separate mic for loop mic into the rc-600. still ahve some playing around to do i think. not sure that the looper will have a powerful enough pre-amp for an SM7b. HOWEVER, i still see myself only using one mic, but possibly routing my interface back into the looper, so that one mic can still go direct, and ALSO be used for looping. i have some trial and error ahead of me
That would work well. That beta is a great mic to use for looping. I have one as well. Thank you for your reply.
After you mess around a little let me know if it acts as an audio interface for recording. It would be great if it could supersede my current one. Thanks again
Also the routing trick would work will with your condenser but would be a little trickier in a live situation. My 600 arrives soon and i’ll let you know what i learn
To access your effects without holding the effects button for 2 seconds you can set up the button to just cycle through (pushing once for your next set of loops, another press for your effects; rather than the 2 second hold, and once more for your initial 3 loops
Pro, no holding, quicker access to affects
Con, an additional press to toggle between your six loops rather than just toggling back and forth between loop bank 1 and 2
Good luck
not only ou are the most enthousiastic and creative looper supporter, but you also have the coolest miniskirts! wish I was a girl to copy your outfits!😁
Awwww Lucio! You’re too sweet, you make me smile 😊😊😊 gotta love a good mini skirt!!!! Go for it!
@@EmilyMcVicker it would be a terrible view on me, actually!😄
I have a question 🙋♂️
As an example , Let’s say you have recorded guitar parts on 3 different tracks
Can I turn these on and off at any time just by pressing on the main buttons at the bottom or do I have to press the track select button to move over to a specific track before I can turn it on or or off ?
Yes! If they are on tracks 1,2,&3, you can just turn them on and off with the buttons on the bottom. Super accessible.
The only time it can get a little more button tappy is if you also record in tracks 4,5&6 because would would have to switch to pedal mode 2 in that case. That’s why I usually mainly stick to one pedal mode.
@@EmilyMcVicker thanks for the reply 🙂
Can it be setup like the rc 300 ? You know how the rc300 has 3 tracks and 2 buttons per track for play/rec and stop ?
I’m just looking for something super simple to do parallel recording and turning tracks on and off and overdubbing etc as easy as possible.
Very nice singing!!!! Wow. Can you export the recorded loops to ableton or any DAW after?
Thank you! And yes you can! 🙌
It’s always easiest to clear loops with a simple Midi switcher just change from one program to the next to clear everything instantly. Recommend the MIDI mouse
Thank you! That might be a good option no or me. I have since switched my “all clear” function to switch 8 on pedal mode 3
Can't wait!!
Thanks Gates & Goodell! You guys rock 🤘
