They should have just extended the Brendan Fraser series into this new dark universe idea they want to start up. That way they could have just skipped over the whole new Mummy perspective and start in with Werewolf or Dracula or something. Brendan Fraser doesn't even have to be part of the new universe going forward, (although he could have done a cameo) because the movie is about the Mummy, not him.
My opinion is that Wonder Woman will get the DC Cinematic Universe back on track. Also I own most of Seth Rogen's movies on Blu-Ray which are uncensored.
Joaquin Hernandez Oh I personally think that justice League will suck and I think that the flash movie may end up being shelved, they still don't have a director, haven't shot anything and from what's being said they don't have a script
Gerald Moody OK, pray tell what's so bad about Guardians 2? I've heard that some people saying it's only as good as the first one. does it bother you that they made a movie with a talking raccoon and a gun twice before they made a wonder woman movie?
they are forgetting the MOST IMPORTANT thing to doing this "DARK UNIVERSE" is making is SCARY. How in the Hell do they expect this to work if they lean it more towards ACTION ADVENTURE and not TRUE HORROR? They obviously haven't learned anything from their other attempts to start this UNIVERSE. They can keep pretending as if the WOLF MAN wasn't an attempt at starting a Cinematic Universe.
There was a time, when a movie became a phenomenon, appreciated by people and a sequel was made as a gift to the original. That is now being given away like coupons for the producers to make a buck. Sad. Just sad. Please stop wasting our time Hollywood.
James Bond 007 OH THERE ARE MORE !! I'm definitely gonna go check those out. I love old movies do you know the names of these so I can check around for them I would love to have a marathon of mummy movies.
wait what? wonder woman worse than shitty suicide squad? seriously? I didn't think wonder woman was as good as reviews make it out to be.. but at least it was the first watchable film in the DC cinematic universe..
Well though i am in the few. I highly disagree. I thought the movie was just good but not great. But what they did great in this movie was offer what is to come in this dark universe. Please do not shoot me for having an opinion.
Surprised they didn't mention Dracula Untold. It was supposed to launch the new shared monster universe in 2014, before Universal decided to relaunch the relaunch when it underperformed at the box office.
After seeing "the mummy" the only big issue is lack of thematic continuity which could be easily be fixed with minor differences in the beginning and a better dialogue
It could be a great start if Hollywood got woke up to the fact that at the extremely high costs to the big movies we want more than effects dancing around. We want stories that keep us interested, really engaged and actors playing characters of more than two dimensions.
Mummy trailer's footage differs from the final film. Tom Cruise's character screams during the double decker bus action scene in London. The trailer though has him screaming during the plane crash sequence however!
If you watch this film, keep an eye out for the "Book of the dead". It falls somewhere in the film during one of the scenes. Makes me think again..! It looks so similar to the one from 1999.
I just got back from seeing The Mummy and I enjoyed it. Just enough horror elements to keep you on the edge of your seat and enough goofy banter to make you smile. If anyone is going in there expecting another Brenton Frazier Mummy then look elsewhere. Yes it makes a few nods to them but its something new. And anyone who says it should be more realistic... just wow... The movie is about a 5 thousand year old lady who has a thing for death. Realistic is the last thing I was expecting. I'm not saying it was amazing but its still good enough I'd love to see where else they take this.
The Mummy was entertaining to me. I personally don't understand why people hated it. However, it will never replace the Branden Fraser version. The first two will always be classics to me. The third, I'd like to imagine, never existed.
The 90's Mummy was DRAMA/COMEDY . Cruise could have pulled off something similar. Think of some of his early films. I'd like to see the Dark Universe take itself less seriously. Maybe an Abbot and Costello duo mixed in there somewhere??
Brandon Fraser's Mummy will always be the best Mummy movie. It just has everything in it and the funny parts actually work and his comedic timing is amazing. You can't take a masterpiece make it in modern time and stick Tom Cruise in it. But, that's me saying this before I go watch it. I'll edit this after I come back from seeing it if it is good. IT WILL NEVER BE BRENDAN FRASER GOOD.
fans of the universal horror classics, of which i am one, think that moving the plots to the present is a move that deprives those stories of much of their original charm. the audience is'nt so stupid that it has to have things simplified for it.
stupid Universal!! the blue prints have already been laid out by Marvel on how to start a great shared cinamatic Universe and it was shown by Sony how not to. Just make a good solo movie that stands on it's own with a few Easter eggs here and there. what Universal did was try to use this movie to start the universe instead of just making a good solo movie like Sony did with that Spider-Man 2 mess and you see where that got them. the prints were already laud Universal!! They are!
I actually haven't gotten around to it yet! I do plan on seeing both of those movies though. So, you liked the Mummy more then Wonder Women?! All I've heard is people saying how good Wonder Women was but I'm still just as hyped for the Mummy!
***** yh....wonder woman may be better but shockingly, the mummy is far more entertaining! It will surely keep you at the edge of your seat from beginning to the end.
I personally loved the movie!! It had action, horror and a little comedy relief which is always great. I enjoyed all the characters and absolutely loved Ahmanet as a female mummy, it felt nostalgic but new. Also loved Jekyll and Mr Hyde. I can't wait to see more of the Dark Universe. Sorry to those who didn't enjoy it. You obviously don't know a good fun monster film when you see it.
Wonder Woman would have been a flop in Pirates and Baywatch didn't cancel each other out within the same week. Good timing on it's release and right before most comic conventions take place.
According to critics, “The Mummy” is supposed to be much worse than “Dracula Untold”. It was supposed to be a horror movie, but instead it got more action adventure like Tom Cruise’s “Mission Impossible” movies, which are awesome. The poor storytelling is the real problem here. Universal and Blumhouse better reboot this Dark Universe and make it scary. We still need big name actors though.
They have their flaws, but the villain was more believable. Instead of being "locked away" "'cus they're evil", Imhotep was doing it for his forbidden love for Anaksunamun, not because he wants to rule the world "just because".
A Welshman thats how the original from the 30s is except they focus less on special effects and more on character development. The guy who played the mummy boris karloff had to sit still for like more than an hour just to do his make up. He actually looks as close to an undead mummy you can get
hwen the said it will be Tom Cruise to be in the movie the mummy, the first thing i said is that it will flop. Tom cruise is not that kind of actor, and doesn't have the skills like Brandon to make it fun as well. This movie should have bin called: The Impossible Mummy. (mission impossible sequel)
Tom Cruise was THE Problem and I heard that he wrecked it with his ego which I am not surprised at being how he destroyed Stanley Kubrick's last film Eye Wide Shut according to what R. Lee Ermey said in 2006.
Honestly all the ads for the mummy pretty much give me the impression that the movie wasn't gonna turn out well. I personally haven't seen it but from the ads alone it seemed like it had no direction at all and apparently other people didn't like the movie either. All that matters to me is that I don't have to see "The Mummy" ads on RUclips over and over! I would refresh a page and they would play an ad for the Mummy 4 times in a row! Did they really need to push this movie that much?!?
The Mummy was actually a pretty big financial success (most of that success I'm guessing came from overseas) so yeah they're gonna carry on with the Dark Universe. I'm definitely excited to see where that's heading but I agree The Mummy was NOT a good start.
The movie isn't bad at all...I don't know why the critics went so hard at Tom. The only bad thing about the film is that it revolves too much around tom cruise... I'm sure he involved in the script writing, and changed it so that he has more screen time. And that's why it feels hard to connect to anybody in the movie... I've actually felt sorry for the mummy, not for tom cruise or his love... lol... The movie overall was good, and because it has the coating of adventures sprayed on it, you can watch it for one time with no problem... Some were saying that it needed to be a true horror film, but that would have been disastrous... Not many will go to theaters if that was the case. Anyways, the movie is definitely a one time watch. Don't believe the stupid critics... Tom cruise did a decent job given his role.
Surprising how many Tom Cruise movies that people say even the star power of Tom Cruise couldn't even save this movie.... I take almost every Tom Cruise movie with a grain of salt because every 6/10 movies of his are trash.
Upon seeing the trailer last year, I have expected the new Mummy movie to be not that good. They've set up things over the top. That takes away the horror. Horror's supposed to be communal, not global nor city-wide. With Tom Cruise in the star-lead, they've made it more like a cross between Mission Impossible and Live and Let Die. The Tom Cruise hero is fit for another villain, not the mummy. They should have picked an obscure yet talented actor, unknown to people similar to our part of the world. I mean, we already know him from the Mission Impossible series and in The Mummy, we'll always think "This is the guy in Mission Impossible". Destroys suspension of disbelief.
Universal can't commit to any of their movies to begin this series. Before it was said that Dracula untold was the beginning of Dark universe now its the mummy. Also they threw Wildman under the bus , and it wasn't a bad movie . I guess they will say the next movie will be the start of it's shared universe
They should let critically acclaimed directors for making the dark universe movies. I'd love to see a David fincher Frankenstien or smth like that. idk, productions often forget that it's the directors and creative people who make theories and not the actors and marketing.
I had a gut feeling that the new Mummy film would be a flop. It's a property that simply doesn't work in a modern setting. The double eye thing is too weird, as well. Anyone trying to remake the Universal horror movies (the peerless early ones, at least), is on a hiding to nothing. Making them tame for all audiences is pointless.
I'm fine with Sony coming out with clean versions of their movies cause I want to watch movies the way I want and I know other people who don't watch R films
A monster film has to have the right balance of believability and fantasy
And horror, don't forget horror.
Panther I think any film would need to balance both of those.
The Fan Without a Face the original from the 30s was 100 ti30s better than this new one
I expect tofeel FEAR in front of a monster.

Joaquin Hernandez Oh I personally think that justice League will suck and I think that the flash movie may end up being shelved, they still don't have a director, haven't shot anything and from what's being said they don't have a script
Wonder Woman is having a terrible box office
Are you sure?

Jennian King It's doing good but I'm sure they were hoping to make over 800 million it will probably make under 5.
Gerald Moody OK, pray tell what's so bad about Guardians 2? I've heard that some people saying it's only as good as the first one. does it bother you that they made a movie with a talking raccoon and a gun twice before they made a wonder woman movie?

nothing is scary anymore tbh
Carlos Pena this is 100% true. nothing has been scary since the 80's, but they could at least TRY IT.
Carlos Pena how about the election
Gotti Mendoça this was funny
True. But thankfully recent good horror movies have made up for it by using good plot and interesting concepts
a "clean version" of a seth rogen movie?! why would someone do that????
Well technically Dracula Untold was the start of the Dark Universe, which I happen to like.
I've been waiting since March to see The Mummy it's not a bad film
Universal horror without Karloff or Chaney is not a true Universal Monsters cinematic universe
InJBLweTrust 11 how old are you? fucking out of date hipster
Waddle Doo 2 You both phenomenal actors, defined the characters. Fuck off with that shit. Age doesn't make a difference to great movies
InJBLweTrust 11 I agree, I love older movies
Xeno 11 Amen dude i own all the original universal monster movies and the new mummy was just mission impossible with a "mummy"
Xeno 11 Karloff is fucking dead his corpse had been decaying before your parents .... yuuuuup
There was a time, when a movie became a phenomenon, appreciated by people and a sequel was made as a gift to the original. That is now being given away like coupons for the producers to make a buck. Sad. Just sad. Please stop wasting our time Hollywood.
I saw The Mummy last night. I thought it was pretty good.
I knew Mummy would flop
Lukas Müller
I have, and it's meh. You assume I haven't seen it because... Why exactly?
It's not flopped yet
mk6rfc1
The critics and many a fan disagree with you.
+sagely Demonologist I'm talking financially
mk6rfc1
It cost $125 million to produce. Something tells me it won't do much more then break even.
when can I get top ten best grass in video games?
What's wierd Is Wonder Women has terrible greenscreen but great action, Mummy had the opposite.
Nintenlympics right
I actually heard the movie was good. I really don't care what critics say. If I wanted to see the movie before it was released. I go see it.
Yeah I would say it's not bad at all
I saw it and it is complete garbage. Don't waste your time and money.
I'm going to go see it now. But, i'll always love The Mummy starring Brendan Fraser .
James Bond 007 OH THERE ARE MORE !!
I'm definitely gonna go check those out. I love old movies do you know the names of these so I can check around for them I would love to have a marathon of mummy movies.
Mike Tank Brown ll Never hear what the critics say, the movie's enjoyment is on the eye of the beholder.
wow what's next? Team Nightmare Universe starring Jason Vorhees,Freddy Krueger,Leather Face,Michael Myers or some shit?
if patty doesnt coming3 for wonder woman 2 we riot !!
If they have a movie where someone dies SOMEBODY is gonna sue
for Dark Universe DC should work with guillermo del toro
Tom Cruise's airplane scream was one of the reasons i didnt see the film...
this is why u dont fuck with brendan fraser
Being a straight man, I've never had even the slightest passing thought of wanting to fuck with brendan fraser.
onion link or it didn't happen
funny
Hollywood fucked Brendan Frasier though once his franchise ended.
wow I guessing none of you guys never seen the original classic Mummy(1933) because the brendan fraser Mummy movie was a remade of the original.
I just came back from seeing the wonder woman movie they better make a sequel
i'ld actually love a sequel for the mummy too.....i dont get the hate
wonder woman > suicide squad
wait what? wonder woman worse than shitty suicide squad? seriously? I didn't think wonder woman was as good as reviews make it out to be.. but at least it was the first watchable film in the DC cinematic universe..
estjaydee3000 no.... I'm saying wonder woman is better than suicide squad, engage your brain.
Chuck Buskee damn right
Lol.......this mummy movie was better than Batman vs superman tbh
To be fair watching paint dry is better than Batman Vs Superman. Even Suicide Squad was better than Batman vs Superman.
As much as I like the Marvel movies, I really hate that they started this trend where every movie has to be part of a shared universe.
good movies are rare these days. hollywood ran out of gas back in the 90s. now its like theyre struggling to keep ppl entertained
nobody will respect or want clean versions
Well though i am in the few. I highly disagree. I thought the movie was just good but not great. But what they did great in this movie was offer what is to come in this dark universe. Please do not shoot me for having an opinion.
Actually, from what I'm seeing, a lot of people think like you.
Ukaran lol really? I have not kept up too much with the media.
Are we talking about The Mummy? I thought it was good. ☺
ben trimble yes we are! And yea i agree! It was good imo.
Finally!! people that really enjoyed it with me! Tbh, this movie or wonder woman, i dont really know which was more entertaining
Guys, I actually enjoy Dracula Untold, just want to get that out there.
me too. Shockingly, i enjoyed the mummy more than wonder woman
Universal should make a Shrek Cinematic Universe instead.
I watched the Mummy. Tom Cruise isn't working properly anymore. Someone fix him. The movie was just a lot of people running around
"don't listen to the critics" Uhmmm...I'm having flashbacks to the Ghostbusters reboot.
It could be a great start if Hollywood got woke up to the fact that at the extremely high costs to the big movies we want more than effects dancing around. We want stories that keep us interested, really engaged and actors playing characters of more than two dimensions.
My nigga Brendan Fraser is at home laughing saying They shouldn't have tried to replace me...
From what I heard this is technically # 4 in the mummy universe.. even though the name is the same as the first.. Why I will never know.
It's a reboot
It's Sony, though. They always make dumb decisions.
This is a universal film dumb ass.
No, I sorry. I meant that they're making clean versions of their films.
When have critics ever known what a good movie is?
Oh that's right, NEVER!
See it for yourself.
I'm not saying it was amazing but its still good enough I'd love to see where else they take this.
This movie is one of the best reboots of an old movie i have seen.
It needed more horror elements. Not R-Rated parts but deffinately something to make it more suspenseful.
That thing about SONY releasing "clean" films has got to be the WORST news.
they should have started wth something other than The Mummy considering how nostalgic people still are for the 00s ver
Wow, I can't wait for the "Son of the Mummy's Uncle Meets the Bride of Frankenstein's Inlaw's". Dark!!!
Well I must say I am disappointed about The Mummy. I am glad that I heard what you guys had to say about it before I left to see the new film.
stupid Universal!! the blue prints have already been laid out by Marvel on how to start a great shared cinamatic Universe and it was shown by Sony how not to. Just make a good solo movie that stands on it's own with a few Easter eggs here and there. what Universal did was try to use this movie to start the universe instead of just making a good solo movie like Sony did with that Spider-Man 2 mess and you see where that got them. the prints were already laud Universal!! They are!
I'd like to determine if the Mummy is bad myself thanks!
How was it? I watched it and i really really enjoyed it........even more than wonder woman
It will surely keep you at the edge of your seat from beginning to the end.
that tom cruise scream sums up the whole movie.
The first mistake that "The Mummy" made was making Tom Cruise star in it.
Think Jakins should direct all the Justice league films. Also thanks for the spoiler of the mummy
The mummy deserve a Grammy award
have seen the mummy and it was not as bad as everybody says
I personally loved the movie!! It had action, horror and a little comedy relief which is always great. I enjoyed all the characters and absolutely loved Ahmanet as a female mummy, it felt nostalgic but new. Also loved Jekyll and Mr Hyde. I can't wait to see more of the Dark Universe. Sorry to those who didn't enjoy it. You obviously don't know a good fun monster film when you see it.
Wonder Woman would have been a flop in Pirates and Baywatch didn't cancel each other out within the same week. Good timing on it's release and right before most comic conventions take place.
Everyone seems to want the Brenden Fraiser movies. Remember Tomb of the Dragon Emperor? Yeah, THAT was a total success wasn't it?
I found the updated Mummy good. It was great to start for the Dark Universe. Still trying to figure out Who Tom Cruis will be in latter films.
It comes at night gets snubbed again. Thank you for ignoring good movies and popularising already popular movies.
i didnt like that movie at all......i even more happy i watched the mummy lol
does this mean the mummy won't be part of the monster universe either lol.
you guys should do a top ten watchmojo worst puns 😑
According to critics, “The Mummy” is supposed to be much worse than “Dracula Untold”. Universal and Blumhouse better reboot this Dark Universe and make it scary. We still need big name actors though.
The mummy is bad and throws away everything good about the first two Brandon Fraser movies and replaced them with shitty clichés
A Welshman you say that like the fraser movie wasnt full of clichés lol, also i hated the new one
They have their flaws, but the villain was more believable. Instead of being "locked away" "'cus they're evil", Imhotep was doing it for his forbidden love for Anaksunamun, not because he wants to rule the world "just because".

I've never seen the 30's one so I wouldn't know.
Its good, all the originals are worth a watch, in fact i own all of them
I swear there was a mummy trailer early last year for the mummy? I guess not even the film studio wanted the movie to be released.
Man, Michael Fassbender would be a great Dracula.
DUCU started with Dracula Untold right?
I'm sooo sad because patty Jenkins are not the director for the sequel of wonderwoman
hwen the said it will be Tom Cruise to be in the movie the mummy, the first thing i said is that it will flop.
Also Universal should have stayed the course with Dracula Untold as THE 1st film for The Dark Universe.
Honestly all the ads for the mummy pretty much give me the impression that the movie wasn't gonna turn out well. I personally haven't seen it but from the ads alone it seemed like it had no direction at all and apparently other people didn't like the movie either. WatchMojo you shoul stop doing irrelevant list's and focus on this
Does Anyone here even realize these remakes are susposed to be from the universal monster movies or do we only live in the 1990s and up era?
The Mummy was actually a pretty big financial success (most of that success I'm guessing came from overseas) so yeah they're gonna carry on with the Dark Universe. I'm definitely excited to see where that's heading but I agree The Mummy was NOT a good start.
tbh the mummy is an awesome film critics are just smarks
lovely movie! i enjoyed it too
It now has 18% on RT
The movie isn't bad at all...I don't know why the critics went so hard at Tom.
The only bad thing about the film is that it revolves too much around tom cruise... I'm sure he involved in the script writing, and changed it so that he has more screen time. Anyways, the movie is definitely a one time watch. Don't believe the stupid critics... Tom cruise did a decent job given his role.
never have and never will care what critics think off movie.
Surprising how many Tom Cruise movies that people say even the star power of Tom Cruise couldn't even save this movie.... I take almost every Tom Cruise movie with a grain of salt because every 6/10 movies of his are trash.
Like DCEU, Dark universe needs like Geoffs Johns and Kevin Feige of this franchise.
Upon seeing the trailer last year, I have expected the new Mummy movie to be not that good. They've set up things over the top. That takes away the horror. Horror's supposed to be communal, not global nor city-wide. With Tom Cruise in the star-lead, they've made it more like a cross between Mission Impossible and Live and Let Die. critics:
Shut up. this was a good movie from a man who does not like scary movies. they should do more of this Dark Universe like the Mummy.
Universal can't commit to any of their movies to begin this series. Before it was said that Dracula untold was the beginning of Dark universe now its the mummy. Also they threw Wildman under the bus , and it wasn't a bad movie . I guess they will say the next movie will be the start of it's shared universe
It was okay. Just saw it. Wasn't as good as I hoped, but I liked parts of it. It's like 6.5/10 for me. Sofia Boutella was GREAT!
They should let critically acclaimed directors for making the dark universe movies. I'd love to see a David fincher Frankenstien or smth like that. idk, productions often forget that it's the directors and creative people who make theories and not the actors and marketing.
I saw the commercial for this movie just before the video.
if they clean up a rogen film it wouldnt even be 20 minutes long lol
Well the Mummy just isn´t the Mummy without Brendan Fraser
It doesn´t matter if it´s in a new universe or has a darker tone or something
I loved Wonder Woman! It's just a shame she had to leave the wonderful island of Themyscira
I hope Dark Universe's The Invisible Man will be a good one😊
I had a gut feeling that the new Mummy film would be a flop. It's a property that simply doesn't work in a modern setting. The double eye thing is too weird, as well. Anyone trying to remake the Universal horror movies (the peerless early ones, at least), is on a hiding to nothing. Making them tame for all audiences is pointless.
first it was a comedy, then a Russell Crowe pay day, and a bad one at that, then it got dead serious. Then failed. But I smell a sequel..
Nah, The Mummy was an Ok enough film for a summer popcorn flick.
I'm fine with Sony coming out with clean versions of their movies cause I want to watch movies the way I want and I know other people who don't watch R films
top 10 automobile/car manufacturers next please
What Sony is doing is stupid, whether you like Rogen or not, he has a point.
Dracula Untold should be canon to the Dark Universe.
How the hell do I always disagree with movie critics??? Whatever I like they hate and vice versa
when she said "stepa'i" I thought she said "SENPAI"
You would think one of these studios would be smart enough to do Monster Hunters International series.
