At first I thought, I thought it would be a serious discussion with Brian Lenihan and Fintan O'Toole and I was thinking "ugghhh, I can't listen to those idiots" and I was about to leave. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw Aprés Match. They were great.
Barry Murphy as "Michael" is outstanding here, satire on a par with Halls Pictorial or Scrap Saturday. Love the way Brian says Fianna Fail, well old skool!!!!:-)
'The State of Us' wasn't the same as 'Apres Match'. It only featured one of the fellas from Apres Match (Risteárd Cooper) working in collaboration with Scrap Saturday writer Gerard Stembridge, so it can't really be considered to be an entended version full-programme version of 'Apres Match'.
satire is actually the most effective way to bring issues to people who vote but generally don't keep up with current affairs....of course it does require some degree of intelligence to read between the lines....and senso of humour never does you any harm. As Gandhi said, "knourishing anger is like drinking poisen and expecting the other person to die"
