Just a small thing that you may have missed: You didn't move your 125th Tank Destroyer Battalion that's near the southern line, near the center of the screen at 10:08 (unless that was intentional and I missed you saying so!)
Since you were debating about whether the AI would or wouldn't bring planes a couple times this episode, from what I've observed the AI seems pretty simple in how it brings in its planes: If you brings planes, it brings planes. Doesn't matter whether its planes counter yours or are just xp pinatas for your fighters/AA, it must bring air to match air. If you don't use air at all I guess it might randomly bring them, but who knows. It seems to me that there's great potential to game the system in this, say by bringing an air regiment to a fight you know you can't win on the ground so the AI wastes its second and third slots on fighters instead of heavy tanks to back up the recon regiment or whatever it attacked with (you unintentionally did this a few times playing through as the Soviets) or reinforcing a battle with a heavy AA unit and an air regiment as bait to straight up destroy the enemy air force.
I wonder if it is possible for you to so a video that compares how historical both the vehicle stats and the unit compositions are for the steel division 2 campaigns.
Vulcan, have you found an explanation for why the soviet battalions replenish 3 action points per turn? It’s really confounding me. Artillery and guards rifles units with zero AP at the end of my turn are attacking with 3 AP at the start of their next turn. I don’t understand how that’s possible.
Sturmgeschütz* would be correct. Geschütz means cannon (usually on vehicles, more commonly known on tanks). I honestly dont know why Sturm (storm), but I would guess as to imply that before or during an attack or defence to commence a storm of fast firing 75 howitzers on the enemy. But really just to give it a distinctive name. Sturmgeschütz is like that to immediately tell its a name, instead of an weapon type or class. Also Germans liked to throw name of a weapon together with the most common place of its appearance or usage. E.G Feldhaubitze (Field howitzer, Its an standard howitzer commonly found on fields :) Others would include FlaK (or Flugabwehrkanone) which is Flugabwehr (Anti-Air) and Kanone (cannon). Same as with the StuGs. Weapon-type combined with the most common usage/appearance :) Also yes, we Germans like to create some really long words, *but in German grammar you need those long-ass words otherwise names and call-signs can be misunderstood very easily from non-names and simp,y things or objects* :) German is complicated, but beautiful and I think its worth learning :D
@@davidtapp3950 Ah, it was more meant because of that G, but afterwards I think I misread that :P Because now I realize that the G was to represent the second word :) Sorry on my part. I honestly dont expect anyone to say or write the Umlaute, most of you non-Germans/non-Scandinavian dont even have that on the keyboard anyways :D
Cheers Vulcan... I keep watching your vids about this and keep trying to like the game but for some reason it just doesn't grip me. Think I was hoping for a more fleshed out campaign on a grander scale... The skirmishes are fun but I miss the "consequences" of a campaign, and the additional strategic challenge. Maybe on the next version ! 😊
as I just stated above the game developers are in collaboration with Wargaming and that's why a lot of content has been removed to sell as DLC later, they really are just a money grabbing company and this game suffers due to that removed for sale content. Hence I just won't buy it lol
Nothing wrong with you not wanting to play it; it's really not for everyone! Check out Graviteam Tactics: Mius-Front if you haven't before, It's a really intense and not very accessible game, but might be what you're looking for
@@ARescueToaster sorry for the slow reply... Will take a look at Graviteam... The sad thing is that I love the idea of steel division... I like the tactical combat, the strategic side is what puts me off.
Tproblem with SD2 and it's DLC packs is it's tie in with Wargaming, a company notorious for it's money grabbing tactic's and that's why most of the missing features in the game will be paid DLC instead of being in game from day one. Wg is also the reason I would not touch this titale with a barge pole.
It seems that most people really enjoy SD2; it's sorry to see that you won't allow yourself to enjoy it, and all because Wargaming.net is selling SD2 now.
Eugen Systems published the game themselves, they are only using the wargaming store as a store. There has already been one Free DLC and I don't believe the history packs, which are the DLC they promised from the start, will restrict any "features" from everyone else.
The last time I checkued WG didnt had any development rights in any Eugen Game?? They are using the WG store just as most others use Steam, Origin, etc. Also WG is a company known for its F2P games so yeah...They need to get money somehow, if its not for charging money for the games themselfes :P
Historical Note: As of 1 September, 1939 all Bf109s were obsolescent. Messerschmitt came up with nothing better to justify retooling any factories until the Me262 came along.
Troops: We need Ammo, We need Ammo!
Vulcan: hmm loud backround noises today
I know it's sooo annoying
The Close Combat series have the feature of maps staying deatroyed during the campaign. That enhances the feeling of an ongoing battle. Love it.
I'm trying to like this game but the enemy just spam artillary at the back of the map and tear apart my forces with ridiculous accuracy.
Just have to hit them first, it is annoying though I'll admit.
"This one just has turrets? That can't be right"
Well, given how many planes the other guys have, it might be just what the doctor ordered ;p

This did actually remind me to later, so thanks!
You can put your MG's into the trenches Vulcan. Start them next to the trenches. Manually move them in. Profit!
Just remember to turn off autocover when doing this or they will run out again to any nearby cover
wasnt sure at first bout SD. usually I dont like the ww2 setting in general. But you make this so interesting to watch!
You could move the mix aa to the north. The regiments in 78 sturm have decent aa themselves, as well the panzergranadiers.
I will look into it, thanks!

Love the game but for a starter is nothing but pain.

It's been updated so that all units recover 3 AP these days. It does change up the strategy quite a bit.
The Germans are famous for compounding words which we would not. Hence SturmGeschutz instead of Sturm Geschutz.
