This is one way to make a leather book - not THE way :) Hope you enjoy the process.
I've been wanting to make a traditional style bookbinding project for a while, that is made using our bookpress, book vise, book plough and sewing frame. In terms of construction first of all I'm sewing signatures together using linen cord. Next up, I'm trimming the ends of the booklet with the book plough. After that I work on rounding the spine, and then separating the cords with an awl. At that point I work on the leather cover: cutting, skiving and gluing the leather onto the book boards.
This was such an enjoyable process and I know I'm going to get a lot of use out of this book.

I hope more people find their way to this, as the only thing more beautiful than the finished journal itself is your video documenting its construction. Very well done on both counts.
I appreciate that!
Really beautiful work, Linn! 😊
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
thank you for taking us on your journey…🙏🏾😊🙏🏾
Thank you!
@@darbinorvar Thank you too
That's a gorgeous journal, Linn! And I agree, it's a fascinating process to watch someone else doing. LOL! Excellent video. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks John!
Truly a labor of love. Beautiful!
Thanks Sandra!
That is fascinating tedious process that gives a beautiful bound book. Thank you for doing this.
I am in awe! Beautiful result!
Thank you Bob!
Priceless!
I had to watch it twice. It absolutely amazing the way you made that book. Excellent job it's all I can say I mean absolutely fantastic. I usually don't comment on videos. If I don't like watching certain videos, I won't subscribe I won't watch. But I find yours somewhat intriguing. I just thought I'd let you know. This was very good. I'm not saying any of the others were bad. I'm just saying this was intriguing. Unusual, you don't see this much anymore except on documentaries. Which I tend to watch a lot.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate this!
Wow! Great job.
Thank you!
One question, I don't know you'll answered it, we're all busy. I pay Google by the year. I just give them money so I don't have to watch ads. You do get some money from my subscription.
It was hard to read the explaining text in the video. But it looked very nice.
Porqué no tienes una guillotina?
👍
How much time in total was this - just curious?
I am sure that outhere are better, more detailed maybe or something, but this video tutorial was as much of an art as the book was itself - thank you 😊 just seeing all the tools we once watch get made and all the pieces falm in together was mesmerizing 😊
Thank you so much! In terms of time, I don't really know. I do 30 min here and 30 min there, so all in all a couple of hours.
Have you read "Fine Bookbinding" by Jen Lindsay, or did you iterate and experiment with leather bookbinding to learn it at this level? Thanks
I'll have to check that one out! I've mostly been experimenting, watching RUclips etc...
En nuestros mejores tiempo un empastador hacía 90 libros diario. Ahora todo está deprimido, andamos como zombie buscando razones del porqué
