Without investing a few thousand dollars into automatic lights, auto open curtains and blinds, LED undermounts, and other smart technology, not only will the electric bill continue to climb, but repair bills will become astronomical. A smart system that is locked for the HVAC system is also essential. And using other items to cool and heat are essential in very large homes. That is why fireplaces and gas heating were used so often in large homes. Cross ventilation was also used as a means to help with cooling as well to reduce costs. But to be honest, her income is not a level to upkeep a home of that size. A regular large home would be more sustainable and smarter over time. That type of home is a money drainer no matter what you do. It's not worth it unless you just want to say you had it but it's nothing but a waste if resources. Also, people from poorer upbringings tend to destroy and break things in larger homes way more because they do not understand a lot nor do their poor visitors. So, it is much wiser to work your way up. But on paper, it will never make mathematical sense.

If her light bill was 200-300 in a small place, that automatically let's me know that her main drainer is her HVAC SYSTEM. And over the years I have observed that poorer background people never understand how to utilize the thermostat of their homes correctly. They usually want to run it on 65 and below all day long which causes a myriad of issues that aren't just bill related. It is a maintenance nightmare as well. And it is usually a waste of time to try and explain how to effectively use a HVAC system and also proper maintenance. They would prefer the constant repair, replacement and freezing of the unit instead of learning the why and how and applying it. There is also a such thing as transient power. So when you gave tons of items plugged into every socket of the home, these things collectively can cause a significant drainage of power. There are many things to learn and other tips and tricks. But to keep it simple, you identify your biggest power drainers in your home first and effectively manage those. Than you work on light bulbs, old light fixtures, sockets, old panels, etc to figure the other issues.
