I am incredibly ashamed that my country, Denmark, values a "Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with China" and wants to protect and value trade with the CCP over human rights, with some of our ministers saying that "trade and technology exchange is a separate issue from human rights and should not be mixed together" Shameful. Really no suprise there. During the middle east migrant crisis, Denmark welcomed anyone in. No vetting or screening. The countries sexual assault cases went up 300%. Denmark was willing to sacrifice the safety women in order to look generous to the outside world. Yall got a dystopian government.

I think it is immoral and unethical for countries to send their athletes to China to compete in the Olympics. China wants to use the games as propaganda and they have not shown they are deserving of any honour at all.

He was working on the 2010 winter Olympics and resigned from a company he had worked with for 2 decades. It all concerned the graft and corruption within the IOC. This is a very elite group that makes a fortune putting on the games. The kickbacks, the bribes, the gifts and so on never ends. The IOC also insists that all books be kept closed on the games preventing the public from even knowing what goes on or checking on the corruption. My relative called it a criminal organization on par with something like a drug cartel or the mafia. The amounts of money are so large that skimming millions wont even be noticed. But even beneath the IOC there is yet another international crime group. Each country gets tickets allocated to their local organizing committees. These tickets end up in the hands of scalpers. At the 2010 games in Vancouver we had all these guys with heavy European accents hawking juicy seats to keep events like gold medal hockey games. We as taxpayers paid for the games and the tickets and then we are forced to buy them back from foreign scalpers. What a racket.

When I as an international student in China criticized my supervisor for cancelling and giving my thesis topic to a Chinese student with my concept and data, some days later university teachers were following me in public transport until home, made photos on the way like detectives, interrupted phone calls, asked me on the phone whether I do not want to study in another country and made me lose face constantly in class in front of all the Chinese students. One of our newspapers here in Canada has a daily online poll, on various topical issues, for which they publish the results both online and in print the next day. The question yesterday was whether or not you believe Peng Shuai is now safe. When I answered it in the morning the result to that point was (if memory serves) 96% No and 4% Yes. When the final result was revealed today, the whole thing flipped to 6% No and 94% Yes! Isn't it strange how some things turn out (tongue firmly in my cheek). I wonder how many other similar occurrences there are?

A woman like Peng does not post that kind of accusation without it being true, or a mistake. She went public with full awareness of the ramifications to her own life. She is now relying on the rest of the world to realize that. If she was delusional and wrong to post that, then she wouldn't be smiling and allowed to do happy photo ops. She'd be a mess.

@@mrduuud Sorry for the confusion. I'm on Peng's side and believe her allegations. The few limited "happy" clips of her, are her back up plan. As well as the frantic damage control of the CCP. Suppression of trauma with the appearance of happiness is a survival trait and coping mechanism for women, repressed populations and save-face cultures. I lack that skill as a western male. If Peng had fabricated the allegations, she'd already have to be severely mentally unstable ("a mess"). Or the CCP would have erased her completely, which she's smart enough to know would raise far too much attention. A successful intelligent internationally popular athlete has neither the motive nor the gross mental instability to fabricating these allegations.

When you say pengshuai has disappeared, just like you say Jack Ma has disappeared, it is not new, and soon you will also lose your memory, which means you don't understand China. There are a lot of Western journalists in China, unfortunately most of them still don't speak Chinese and don't know much about China, they can only read bad second-hand material and make their own assumptions, which is western arrogance. I always felt something really wrong about this case, but hearing the full extent of the cover up and efforts to silence this poor young girl. Sexual abuse is horrific, and it’s made even harder when your abuser is walking free and you don’t get any justice - and this girl has got it even harder because her abuser is so high up in the CCP, she can’t even talk about the abuse she been though. I hope she physically safe, but beyond that, I really hope she is mentally in an okay place and I hope one day she is able to get the justice she deserves and is able to talk about what she went through; and maybe even write a book on it - that would be awesome!

While it's good that you're reporting on this, it's good to have a daily reminder on the evils of this regime, the sad fact is that it will probably amount to nothing in terms of helping Peng Shuai. She'll be 're-educated' and then used as a mouthpiece for the regime or at worst disappeared once people forget about this (and they will). I'm glad it's talked about and I hope this provides yet another nail in the coffin of this regime, but for Peng Shuai herself it'll certainly be too little, too late
Say boycott, well I've been boycotting Olympics since forever, not really a sports fan, jokes aside something interesting happened in Serbia recently, Chinese company Ling Long is building a tire factory there, and they brought workers from Vietnam, and those people were there in horrible conditions, their passports have been taken, they were not allowed to leave factory, to communicate with people outside, not enough food, and they can't go out to buy some, they're closely guarded 24/7, few showers for few hundred people, no hot water, they were delaying salaries for many months, living conditions worse than the prison (maybe not worst than Chinese prison, but that's another issue), anyway people in Serbia found out, and started protesting, what company does, just relocate some of the workers to a better place, and arrange forced interview with workers with government backed TV station(Serbian government is a huge fan of Xi), where they said it's fine we're ok now, but those people are still under guards, no one is allowed to communicate with them, and they're not allowed to speak

China is a horrible, suffocating society, and it is frightening how it is encroaching on other parts of the world, buying up Africa, and even a lot of property in Germany (and immediately after, they start cutting down all the trees). If we do not stand up and fight, this will be our future, too. In the past two years, I have come to understand, how precious the values of citizen rights, democracy, free speech and free choice of almost everything are, that we had in Western countries.

He was working on the 2010 winter Olympics and resigned from a company he had worked with for 2 decades. It all concerned the graft and corruption within the IOC. This is a very elite group that makes a fortune putting on the games. The kickbacks, the bribes, the gifts and so on never ends. The IOC also insists that all books be kept closed on the games preventing the public from even knowing what goes on or checking on the corruption. My relative called it a criminal organization on par with something like a drug cartel or the mafia. The amounts of money are so large that skimming millions wont even be noticed. But even beneath the IOC there is yet another international crime group. Each country gets tickets allocated to their local organizing committees. These tickets end up in the hands of scalpers. At the 2010 games in Vancouver we had all these guys with heavy European accents hawking juicy seats to keep events like gold medal hockey games. We as taxpayers paid for the games and the tickets and then we are forced to buy them back from foreign scalpers. What a racket.

When I as an international student in China criticized my supervisor for cancelling and giving my thesis topic to a Chinese student with my concept and data, some days later university teachers were following me in public transport until home, made photos on the way like detectives, interrupted phone calls, asked me on the phone whether I do not want to study in another country and made me lose face constantly in class in front of all the Chinese students. That was their way to make me stay at home in Beijing. Thanks for playing!

Did anyone else notice that she was pulled back from the kids twice in the ball signing video & then a person pulls her away while another woman waves the kids back away from her, she's terrified and unable to even touch her fans just in case she's brave enough to give a random child a plea, or a message.

A woman like Peng does not post that kind of accusation without it being true, or a mistake. She went public with full awareness of the ramifications to her own life. She is now relying on the rest of the world to realize that. If she was delusional and wrong to post that, then she wouldn't be smiling and allowed to do happy photo ops. She'd be a mess.

@@mrduuud Sorry for the confusion. I'm on Peng's side and believe her allegations. The few limited "happy" clips of her, are her back up plan. As well as the frantic damage control of the CCP. Suppression of trauma with the appearance of happiness is a survival trait and coping mechanism for women, repressed populations and save-face cultures. I lack that skill as a western male.
If Peng had fabricated the allegations, she'd already have to be severely mentally unstable ("a mess"). Or the CCP would have erased her completely, which she's smart enough to know would raise far too much attention. A successful intelligent internationally popular athlete has neither the motive nor the gross mental instability to fabricating these allegations.

When you say pengshuai has disappeared, just like you say Jack Ma has disappeared, it is not new, and soon you will also lose your memory, which means you don't understand China. There are a lot of Western journalists in China, unfortunately most of them still don't speak Chinese and don't know much about China, they can only read bad second-hand material and make their own assumptions, which is western arrogance.

I always felt something really wrong about this case, but hearing the full extent of the cover up and efforts to silence this poor young girl. Sexual abuse is horrific, and it’s made even harder when your abuser is walking free and you don’t get any justice - and this girl has got it even harder because her abuser is so high up in the CCP, she can’t even talk about the abuse she been though. I hope she physically safe, but beyond that, I really hope she is mentally in an okay place and I hope one day she is able to get the justice she deserves and is able to talk about what she went through; and maybe even write a book on it - that would be awesome!

While it's good that you're reporting on this, it's good to have a daily reminder on the evils of this regime, the sad fact is that it will probably amount to nothing in terms of helping Peng Shuai. She'll be 're-educated' and then used as a mouthpiece for the regime or at worst disappeared once people forget about this (and they will).
I'm glad it's talked about and I hope this provides yet another nail in the coffin of this regime, but for Peng Shuai herself it'll certainly be too little, too late

Say boycott, well I've been boycotting Olympics since forever, not really a sports fan, jokes aside something interesting happened in Serbia recently, Chinese company Ling Long is building a tire factory there, and they brought workers from Vietnam, and those people were there in horrible conditions, their passports have been taken, they were not allowed to leave factory, to communicate with people outside, not enough food, and they can't go out to buy some, they're closely guarded 24/7, few showers for few hundred people, no hot water, they were delaying salaries for many months, living conditions worse than the prison (maybe not worst than Chinese prison, but that's another issue), anyway people in Serbia found out, and started protesting, what company does, just relocate some of the workers to a better place, and arrange forced interview with workers with government backed TV station(Serbian government is a huge fan of Xi), where they said it's fine we're ok now, but those people are still under guards, no one is allowed to communicate with them, and they're not allowed to speak
