Stop Right Now! Major Brake Upgrade On A LS Swapped 57 Chevy! - Black Widow

- Опубликовано: 17 сен 2024
- More progress on the 2 door conversion 1957 Chevy. In the last few videos all the rust has been addressed, followed by an LS swap and all new tubular front suspension. So with all the Go, we need a little Woah. Naturally I ordered a cheap front disc brake kit.
The kit is later model GM disc brakes retrofitted to the classic spindles. The kit also upgrades the ball bearing wheel bearings to a tapered roller bearing. This kit was a little different than I was used to but I got it all bolted together.
With the front brakes addressed I also completely rebuilt the rear brakes, added a new metering block and a disc brake master cylinder. Ill plumb it up on the next video, BUT WE ARE MAKING PROGRESS!!
Now tell me in the comments how I did it wrong.....
Also buy a shirt so I can buy more hood scoops:

Yes Sir...Black Widow coming alive.
Glad to see the shirt I sent Fit. I hope the one for Dani did as well.
Never sieze....the gift that keeps on giving! 👍👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏🙏
awesome work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! love what you do. peace
Very good information and illustrations on how to in the garage with some cheap labor.
Nothing like some fresh brakes on any car. So much better!
lots of progress. keep givin'er
The black widow is coming along great. I’m with you, I hate change too. Don’t put duct tape in the heater box. You have easy access to it, fix it right.
Looks good! LS, disc brakes, blk-white, can't go wrong!
Nice add Bobcat!!!
Don’t feel bad about treating yourself to a little bobcat treat. You are the only RUclipsr I know that remains true to your passion. Keep Struggling on the cracked concrete floor like the rest of us but Save your back lifting with that new machine
That's my plan haha
Man you are making fast progress.
Looking good 👍👍🇨🇱
Canadian winters do need windshield defrost. I'm sure you will fix it right while the car is apart. Looking good.
I'm sure glad my 57 caddy heater core was ok....good luck finding one.
Love your show. Please repair the heater core area, and don’t duct tape!
Keep up the great work sir!
Hey great work man I’m from Mississauga Ontario and I really like how you explain exactly what your doing step by step
You're welcome for buying you your new Bobcat.
You earned it man.
But other comment has it right, no duct tape on the heater box.
I only put discs on the front of my 63 C10 because they dont make drum brake drop spindles. I like the old school look of drums, and if adjusted properly , they work well enough for the street.
Dan, it's good that the brackets put the calipers behind the spindles. You mentioned possibly adding a front sway bar in a previous video. You would have had to move them anyway. Been there done that on dad's '57. We were able to just swap the brackets and calipers side to side and get different hoses, but it was a pain to have to mess with the brakes again.
I know it's been a couple of years ago since you did this car. Love the black widow chevy.
I'm 64 and I don't like change either! I feel for ya sir!
Haha
Awesome ! Keep up the great content, much respect from Michigan!
Should be a great driver 👍
Dan hose new disk brakes look Mint!!💪
Looking Awesome!!....soon yll Driveing down the road in a Cool Black Widow 55!!....ready to see.
You got lot's done in this one!!! Well done Dan!!!
LOL😅 Future Dan is glad you put brakes on the snowplow now !!!
👍Keep Jamming! Its Lookin Good Dan !! 👍😊
I really like disk Brakes 👍
Coming together Looking good 🤙
Thanks for the video I needed this one and the one prior
It's a DD Speed Shop kind of day
Great video. I really like the look of the black widow. Cheers from Ottawa.
Don’t you just love shining new parts!
Parts yes. Paying no haha
Coming along nice dan really cool bobcat cant wait to see you work it
On disk / drum brakes it is a 70 - 30 split from front to rear .
Wait a minute!
"The front clip's rasseled on"? I was anticipating and looking forward to viewing your precision and skilled installation of the 57's nose, with your exciting new toy....the Bobcat.
(BTW, thanks for griming up your mitts)
Country Grammar. Its infectious. 😈 Side by side as found and after photo winner in the Tri-5 store.
I noticed that you put the rotor on first then removed it oooops seen that lol good job Dan it’s coming together pretty fast looking good 👍🏼
Throw a quick patch in that heater box
Dont thank us. Thank YOU for giving us all the great content. I will never watch regular tv again thanks to you and some other RUclipsrs
Man your really putting in work on this one....it'll be as nice as the satellite was
Yeah. Trying to keep this one for myself haha
Good job Dan. Love the disk brake setup. Although I think you could have repaired the heater box with the proper sheet metal. I know you have the skills. Thanks for sharing the video. 👊😎👍
Good Vid 🖒🖒Making progress !!🐿
Very informative Dan! If I had an old tri-five, I'd want disc brakes up front too and dual master cylinder...
Danni, look out, another brake bleed episode is coming your way!!!
Oya. She's excited....
a million years ago we were logging a 20 acre job on a island . the mill dropped the price so low it would bankrupt us the morning we were going to start shipping .. we had 40+- loads of logs piled up on the landing.
we decided to cut it into fi free wood and haul it off the island 3 cords at a time . on a old early mid 60 gmc . the first load .
I wasn't driving not my truck .
anyway we came to the top of a long steep hill at the bottom was a dock 200 feet long at the end was Puget sound.
we were going 60ish and he hit the brakes to slow down . they went to the floor by now we were probably 70mph and having he tried to downshift (NEVER EVER TRY TO DOWNSHIFT COMING DOWN A STEEP GRADE.
HE MANAGED TO GET IT BACK IN GEAR unfortunately this blew the clutch.
we were free wheeling 90+ mph
the guy in the booth on the dock seen us coming and started running. there was a right turn at the bottom of the hill that ran outalong the beach we could to a stop.
I said take the right at the bottom of the hill.
he turned right into the holding lane about 100degree turn around 100 mph a old lady sitting in the holding lane with 12000 pounds of firewood on a old gmc 1 1/2 ton .
he makes the turn missed the scared old lady we coast back up a steeper hill now about 20+- from top the truck comes to a stop yippee
not quite no brakes no clutch . no e brake .we start rolling backwards down the hill.
at that point I jump out grab a big rock and threw it under the duels. they rolled right over it.but the front wheel hits it and it stops.
the ferry guy in the booth told us a year before a dumptruck blasted down the hill through the booth and into Puget sound.
THE MORAL OF THE STORY IF YOU HAVE A SINGLE MASTER REPLACE IT
Question is, how long was it before ya quit pooping seat foam?? I'm sure by the time ya got stopped they couldn't have drove a 10 penny nail up your ass with a 20 pound sledgehammer!!! 🤣🤣🤣
@@hughstephenson2957 no pooping there really wasn't time. mostly I was thinking about how cold the water was going to be Puget sound is cold year road and it was late fall. lol .
we had it towed to a old fashioned auto parts store at the top of the hill . replaced the clutch and wheel cylinder and went on our way but since then everything I owned with a single brake reservoir got a double right away.
I like to be able to stop.
@@hughstephenson2957 I did have a brake failure that was a pucker failure a couple years earlier that was electric brakes on my a 10,000 park model coming down lookout pass . at 2 am late spring snowing raining flying down a mountain holding my breath thinking ok I think I can make it to the next runaway ramp when I got to the bottom and could finally stop . I those days i90 had a red light and a right turn in the middle of town I got it stopped there was a chevron station across the street and I single handedly did my best to destroy wallace Idaho' s sewage treatment plant
Agreed! Brakes are kinda important haha
Morning Danny n Dani :)
Hey!
Yeah Dan it is good times 👋
Good progress, Dan.
Get set of forklift forks for the bobcat they will be handy for pushing pulling and putting in motors extra
Love what you're doing. Keep these Tri 5s alive. I would spend the money and get the new heater box, as the cold is coming, and no one likes driving around in a cold car.
Another GREAT vid, looking good!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks man!
the car is lookin good dd speedshop cant wait to see it run
Love this car
As a daily driver , what about the ac Dan ? Use an old under dash unit ! You can do it !
Mayne in the spring.
Your blazing right along as usual.
Gotta get it done before winter hits haha
@@DDSpeedShop or you loose the shop?!?!?!?
Great work man! It’s coming along nicely!
Thanks man!
anti seize some great stuff for getting everywhere
It gets everywhere haah
Man Oh Man I just love watching DD Speed Shop, I really love watching you putting these older cars back together. I really wish you would fiberglass a top for your convertible 57 . It'll be easy to do it. Keep up the great work and God Bless you guys and your families
If the master is for a drum/drum set up as original, not proportioning valve needed.
Looking good Dan, I can't wait to see this one on the road.
I don't know if you have ever followed Tom Bailey (Drag Week King), but he also owns a Bobcat. And he said, (joking) you ain't nobody if you don't own a Bobcat. Thanks for the show. Ronnie.
Haha he seems like a smart man
Absolutely love DD Speed SHOP always great time from ground up step buy step 😁😁😁💟
"you are an old man and do not like change", get ready, you gonna get a lot grumpier with future changes.
Get a Freightliner heater core....usually sell for about $50.00
I'll have the check it out
I like the way you build cars , if something was inferior from original you change it and make the car safer and just all around better . Who cares about original , keep up the good work . And I like the bobcat
Yup. Driving to make it a better driving car
Hey Dan is going together quickly and looking good won’t be long that thing will be on the road👍😎✌️
I have a tool that gives you the perfect fit for push rod of brake pedal to master cylinder. It’s only $25 works great no struggling even though you’re a fan of struggling I’d highly recommend
good work. funny you are still packing bearings by hand. I know you have a bearing packer.
Great content, glad to see you moving along on it
Lookin good! Can't wait to see her done! That reminds me, I better get started on replacing the band brake on my grandsons go kart. That's at least a four hour job.
I agree!!
Might as well do the leaf spring relocation on this one too. You need all the tire you can get.
275 just squeeks in there so I'm good haha
Nice Bobcat n I see a U shape Driveway in ur Front yard in the future 😆
Those Bobcats look like a helluva lot of fun to operate. Great score Dan!
Great work Dan... coming along nicely
dam not first but close
I'm diggin' the bobcat! May you gain such proficiency with it that you can be one of those guys who can balance and drive it on 2 wheels!
When u change to 400hp + those old drum binders are worthless they heat up & fade. 👍🏼😎
Yeah. This kit is worth the money
Glad to see you are pulling this together. Surprised to hear you are going to Duct Tape the Heater Box compartment. With your skills this would be an easy fix. 🤔 I know you'll need the heater to work 100% in Winterpeg. (Couldn't you just do a voice over commentary on the "lost" video and save yourself some grief? We wouldn't mind.)
Yea I wish he would repair the heater box right. I know he has the skills. 🙏😐
Looks like you have got some good brakes now. I thinking that duct tape do not stick to rust, so wire wheel it and paint then try sticking some duct tape on the heater box. Or pop rivet some tin to it.
Pretty simple looking bracket for the front disc. 🤔
You should fix the heater box soo the de-frost works properly.
Now your getting close on finishing up ,time to start thinking about a Turbo for it. You know you want to. Mile's of mayhem next year ? Motion Race works will have what you need,
Yeah. She needs a few upgrades before race day
I splurged and bought a blue wrench back in July, no other way to change torsion bars in rusty 4x4 trucks. Been using the hell out of that thing, especially since the sawzall is about to die. How did I go all these years without a torch? I broke lots of hammer handles, thats how. I need to get my skid steer going so I can move engines around outside. Those things are super handy.
Oh man. The torch is an absolute essential!
Like they say at McDonalds "I'm Loving It" Way to go Dan Keep the faith YOUR CAR is starting to take shape. Good Stuff!
Great video man
Glad I bought my bearing packer back in the 70's....Had to because I worked 50-50% commission till I went to work at a Harley dealership.....
"I'm an old man; I don't like change!" Bwahahaha..! Kids these days....... lol
Well done, kiddo!
In front of, behind, i don't think it really matters where the caliper goes. Its a street car, not a race car. All the big three ran them either way. Maybe mount them at the 6 o'clock position?? that should stir the pot. As long as the bleeder is at the highest point of the caliper, should be mint! Looking good man, kickin ass and taking names!
Haha thats how I see it too
Really really really enjoyed this video! Lol Really👍
run all the brake lines then put the front clip on, the front wheel bearings are TIMKEN bearings
Love watching you put those cars together great job your getting faster lol
Love all he Video’s Dan . Keep up the good work . ( long Wagon) shoulda kept 56 2 dr. Lol
Awesome job , as always ! Judging by your "chucking" the original master cylinder with such disdain , I've deduced a total lack of performance , stopping that heavy of a car (weight ?) on originally issued equipment . Love the way that LS sets in there , by the way . She's gonna Rock , already does ! Black Widow . Dan's sleeper creeper . Wish you were here . NOT ! Bye Bye , Lard-Ass ! At least now you can stop , almost as fast as you can go !
Great video. Gotta love covid shipping
Going together pretty quick!
Skidsteer quick attatch is handy, need forks, a jib and a ball hitch mount for moving trailers.
Dan's brake shipper watched his youtube channel a couple of times on disc brake change to his 55-57s. Sent him the right backing plate tis time. Chevy and Ford pays engineers tons of money to put the brake pad in the back. New upgraded brakes will sell a car every time.
Looking good Dan! I like the contrast of painted shiny new parts against the 60 yr old rusty frame! Should blow something underneath when done if it's a keeper and your daily winter sleeper(automotive poetry)! And as regards the outside just do epoxy primer, it's durable and it's available in black and white.
I know what BBC really stands for. And i know for a fact you have a bunch on your phone!
Big Block Chevy!
🤣🤣🤣🤣 I see what you did there
Oh I’m sure you know all about BBC, and it’s not chickens
Lol, once a bbc always a bbc
That's our secret!
