I had to pause this video to tell you that you are the best when it comes down to explaining the trucking industry. And you’re succinct. I am a paralegal but am interested in a career change. Thanks for all that you do.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge for free... great video, straight to the point. Can one be successful as a Broker with no experience at all or do you recommend working as a agent first??
Do you really need cargo insurance for Brokers? I was thinking that's the tracking carrier responsibility? And if so what's the amount for broker cargo insurance? I know for the tracking companies this is very expensive insurance like $1000 to $1400 per month. Thanks!
The FMCSA does not require a freight broker to have cargo insurance but many shippers require brokers to have cargo insurance to work with them....cargo insurance usually ranges from $1000 to $3000 annually depending on credit...hope this helps. thank you!
Hello... I’m new to the industry and love your videos. My only question is why do we need a factoring company? The loads are not paid by the company where the cargo is being picked up from and going to?
Ive been a freight trucker out of california for a total of 14 years 2yrs cross country coast to coast and 12yrs local i know a little about dispatching. Can i take that experience and apply as an agent in hopes of getting hired? Or is 2yrs or so of training require as a freight agen? Also can an agent after a year or so take all its customers with him and become a broker? Or will it be a conflict of interest or breach of contract if any? Would appreciate an educative response. Thanks God bless
Hello Brandon, I'd like to ask you a question, can I operate as a freight broker if I'm located outside the USA? Thank you so much and thanks a lot for posting your videos.
Hey Brandon, I'm training to work as an agent for a brokerage that only requires 20 percent from the agent. My question is it sounds like the broker makes more but also spends more monthly, what do you think of starting in the business as an agent and transferring into a broker after you've learned the business?
That is exactly what you should do, exactly man. If you are clueless you have no business starting a brokerage with zero customers. Gain knowledge and customers and then start one. Just FYI, I have been in this for 22 years and have helped 5 brokerages start up. Not saying I know it all but I am pretty experienced. Good luck
I had broker authority right now and one of surety bond told me he is my Agent because I signed Contract with him when He told me sign for me I thought I am going to sign Surety bond Not for Agent and also he Didn’t told me that am going to sign agent agreement Now I need any explanation about Do I have to pay him percentage or he work his own
How do you get started? Most jobs I’ve seen posted for freight agents require at least 1 year of experience. Does anyone know of training that provides accounts after training? I don’t know where to start but I know I want to do this!
I want to be a freight broker but i saw a video of a guy that says that you can loose everything that this a risky business! Is that true? That you need to have a lawyer and that people sue you every year and you spend thousands of dollars?
Very informative video. I do have a question. I have started my own brokerage. I have a few agents that want to broker under my brokerage but I don’t know what is a fair percentage of the loads they find to pay them. Please help if anyone has any insight. Thanks in advance!
I'm new to this industry, looking to maybe change careers and started my research with your videos. Not sure if this is a stupid question but why would you need a factoring company, you don't pay the drivers once you're paid?
Any new brokerage that needs a factoring company to pay carriers is starting down the wrong brokerage. No most do NOT do this. I have helped start 5 brokerages and none used a freaking factoring company. That is throwing money away. If you dont have the money or credit then do not get into this industry, simple as that. Your points are valid but this is one that I will never agree with. With typical margins at 12-15% why would you pay a factoring company another 3-5% as that is just throwing away your profit.
What if my husband has a truck and i want to be a broker for him...do I want a freight broker or agent? No interest in working for anyone but him...but I do want learn how to work with it
Cannot establish experience but you can reflect proper mindset in your resume. Relationships are the key provide value. Every business has its players and relationships always has a role.
Indeed make that resume public. Take advantage of your headline. Take advantage of your summary. Take advantage of additional information category. Put on a show and tell. You going to tell them and show them that you understand relationships. It is really more of a tell and show. You are going to tell them through your resume but they are going to be shown it in the interview.
Thank you for the good information But I asked friend of mine he is a freight agent he told me Freight broker companies require a college degree to hire you as a free agent is??
I have interview today to be a Agent , and I have no degree yet but my skills and abilities succeed up to a 4 year degree. See you at the top bc the bottom is much to crowded.

Tiara Wright good morning.. did you find out?
60/40 is a fair starting point, 60 to the agent
Do you need a mc or dot for a car hauling business ? Hauling a trailer with 3 to 4 cars?
If you are going to be carrying interstate freight, or if you are over 26,001 in GVWR then yes
mc doesn’t have anything to do with 26k+. it’s required if you transport other peoples’ property across state lines (for hire).
I'm new to this industry, looking to maybe change careers and started my research with your videos. Not sure if this is a stupid question but why would you need a factoring company, you don't pay the drivers once you're paid?
Depends on payment terms with the shipper, some have net 30, net 60.. drivers will expect to be paid weekly, industry standard.
Great information I am a freight broker
