They had Lopes up at 3 am to do a quick crappy rehydration to 155 weigh in day, not rehydrating correctly and messing up his sleep couldn't have been good for his cardio. Also fighting and grappling Dan Ige who was 5+ pounds heavier than him. I don't think you can really have a narrative shift when so many things were going against Lopes cardio wise. Not to mention it was short notice and he didn't have a camp while Dan was months into his.

My narrative shift is lhw is the division with the biggest egos. Looking back we got a lot of fighters that are delusional there. The fact every fighter there keep saying they don't need wrestling to beat a glory double champ when their striking never look that great is crazy. Even magomed is now saying he won't need wrestling even though he struggled with jan. A dagestani thinking they don't need wrestling is a paradox.
But to be honest, Ank ain't really a wrestler, look at his fights, the dude doesn't have a single submission win and I think he only won once whit G&P. He is actually a striker that has some decent wrestling skills.

He utilized it really well for his last three fights. Strikers only striking is so old news nowadays and they should try to mix it up especially against a big scary brazilian like sean would say.

But when a mma guy goes to a specialized sport like boxing or bjj or even kickboxing, it is difficult for them as they spent more time honing their skills in other areas. like a specialized tool can't do the job of a all rounder tool, but an all rounder tool can do the job of the specialized tool to some extent, but it won't beat it in the area that tool is specialized in.

Ian Garry's grappling looked phenomenal? What fight did you watch Flukas? You joke about Gaethje being a white belt but MVP doesn't even have that. Lol he's never taken a Jiu Jitsu class before. Garry had his back with a rear naked locked in and still couldn't finish him. He won the fight by holding onto MVP's back. Shavkat ragdolls him
People bring up Khabib when comparing to Pereira, because he has the lowest claim to goat status. Nobody is comparing Pereira to JBJ, GSP, DC, Volk, Silva mighty mouse, because it's clear here
Completely agree with ya bout Poatan, and pretty much everything else - except for Anthony Smith. The reason Smith hung with Khalil and Spann and then looked so bad against Roman - isn't because of the MW to LHW skill gap or that Roundtree is overrated, it's more down to Smith have an extremely sharp decline in pretty much every facet of his game. He's getting up there in age too, but going back to the Glover fight he's been exponentially falling off ever since, with every fight being worse than the next. The only reason he beat Spann was/is due pretty much entirely with Ryan having close to zero fight-IQ plus not being a very skilled fighter in general, and though he won that fight - he actually looked worse in that one than the previous fight where he was picked apart by Walker. Though he had limited success against Roundtree, it was certainly not as close or back and forth - the way your making it seem. Khalil was definitely soundly beating him the whole fight until the finish. And that small amount of success isn't cuz he's not as skilled, it's due to his Achilles heal, his height and length. Khalil is a very short and stocky LHW, whereas Smith is actually a good inch or two taller than average - standing five inches taller than Roundtree. As for Petrino, he's just dumb as a box of rocks! So much so in fact - that it kinda makes me wonder if he had money on himself losing to Smith, which goes to demonstrate the level of sheer stupidity he was in that fight by gifting Smith a Guillotine choke the way he did. Smith's deterioration of his physical abilities are the primary culprit for how horrific he looked vs Roman. If Khalil were to have been the guy fighting Smith instead, i think Roundtree woulda beaten him worse than Roman did.
Alot of the shots that Alex drops guys with, you don't even see in real time..Alot of them are very short, or come from a weird angle, the guy has devastating power, he doesn't need a wind up..Jiri walks through everyone, takes their best shots, when Alex touches Jiri he drops like a sack of potatoes..He's different..

I also think pereira is literally a protein heavy diet from being a lean 260lbs and nigh invincible. Jiri is the guy outside of pereira in that division Id like to see him fight the top guys and prove that after a time off because i do think LHW is a decent division its just theres a hell of a gap between the champ and most of the contenders.
