    Unbelievable, love the video. Born and raised on Kauai, lived in Koloa during the 70's. The older building that Yamamoto store now stands on way back then was called Bridge Store, Sueoka Store has always been a place to do your shopping for locals, and Big Save. Went to school and to the church there, so cool to see, great memories. Across the water from Koloa Landing used to be a place called Hale Nani, used to dive out there with my families. My families still live in and around there and the rest of Kaual. Thanks for the great video, also love the video too on Kapaa. I used to live not far from the Saint Rafael church. So much change, sad, but nice to see Kauai is surviving.

      Thank you so much for watching! We are so happy to hear you love the video. Glad to hear we are able to bring back fond memories for you. I can only imagine how much has changed since the 70's. Brodi lived here as a small child in the 70's but only remembers certain things he did with his family around the island...not necessarily how it looked. haha! Aloha!

    Thanks for letting us know about your channel. We were on your morning flight yesterday. Me, my wife and my 1 year old son. It was a fun and informative flight. We visited koloa today and checked out some of the food trucks there for lunch. Love what you are doing with the show here. Good luck 👍

    I wanted to comment on the assertion you make at approximately 5:40 regarding the buildings in Koloa when you stated that "Not one board is legitimately from the original buildings". I can tell you with 100% certainty that that is not correct. I along with my brother Bob Gerell were the ones that renovated the buildings back in 1983. The only building that was beyond repair and built new was the building on the corner of Weliweli road. (Notice that its built up to meet the then current building codes as the whole area is in a flood zone). For what is worth it would have been way cheaper to have just built them all new.

    • @OnHawaiiTime
      @OnHawaiiTime  5 лет назад

      Thank you so much for watching and we so appreciate the correction! Brodi gets his "facts" from the books he reads so yeah I suppose some things we learn might not be 100% accurate. We love to hear from people that were actually here during that time!! Any additional information or facts you can throw our way are very appreciated. Aloha!

      @@OnHawaiiTime Thank You for posting the video. I came across it as I was catching up on Kauai as I will be visiting for a week in May. It will be my first time visiting for more than just a day since I moved away in 1989. If you interested I could show you around Koloa when I'm there and show you what we did or didnt do back in the 80's.

    Was interesting as I learned about Hawaii over the years is that most "Hawaiians" are Filipino and Japanese not the Polynesians you would expect. They tend to identify to their origins in jest a lot and prefer to marry within their origins, although not always. Filipinos tend to be Catholic and Japanese tend to be Budhist.

      Because of the limitations of travel to the North shore after the floods, which probably will be permanent to rebuild the reefs and the sanity of the residents, koloa and poipu will be more important to Kauai growth, thus the building of the kukui-ula mall and koloa landing resort and the redoing of old koloa town once again when the ABC store takes over. What is also good about koloa is that you can get to and around koloa by bus, which is odd for Kauai. But good video, koloa is my second home.

    • @OnHawaiiTime
      @OnHawaiiTime  5 лет назад

      Hawaii has such a rich cultural history. The book we reference at the end of the video is a really good read. If you are interested more in learning more about Koloa we recommend it! Thanks so much for watching Andrew! Aloha and Merry Christmas!

      @@OnHawaiiTime all the time, I have a place in poipu I don't go to enough and I take the bus from the airport to the Grand Hyatt, actually 3 buses. And it is only $2.50 vs $42 Uber and $50 cab and Uber can't come to the airport, so I have to walk to the courthouse to get my Uber. Your channel is awesome I linked to it from a helo video. Keep up the good work, the island has so much but it is hard to compete against the tour boat activities. Those Sling Shots look awesome I will try a ride and maybe get one.
