You're repairing a plastic part, which "should be" somewhat flexible. I would use plastic zip ties to fill the crack and to level the surface. Then, add little extra to build up that crack surface then body work it smooth before priming and painting. The super flue repair my be strong, but that stiff repair may eventually crack again.
What was the black stick he was using. I assume it was some type of charcoal but I have never seen it in such a stick; possibly charcoal used for drawing or art?

Bamboo charcoal, looks like charcoal on Amazon used for water filtering; for putting in a water bottle

I have a plastic repair kit from Mac tools and it works great to repair cracks in platic, use it all the time at my body shop
