      @susancraybould3919 unfortunately that is what most if not all of the pensioners I spoke to were saying. One lovely man's wife was having cancer treatment and she needed her body temperature to be regulated at 18 degrees to get well. Their boiler broke in mid Winter and no-one bothered about them for a month so he said they were 'giving up' because no-one cared. Now if pensioners with health problems and circulatory issues need their homes to be at 20 degree heat to not feel the cold the NHS is going to be registering a lot of deaths for the undertakers IF their families can afford a funeral. What happens WHEN families can't afford to bury their loved ones because bills are so high and taxes are coming in.

However, if all the additional 1 million pensioners who are entitled to pension credit were to claim it the cost of paying PC (and the WFA) to them would outweigh the amount being saved by the removal of the winter fuel allowance to 10 million pensioners. In other words the government are lying to you.

      @barryfalco8727 Месяц назад

      @johnsigma1 Not just overseas aid, welfare on people who have never worked, 3 or 4 generations of families that have only ever taken and never contributed, illegal migrants and a load of other wasters in society. The point remains the same, however, taking the allowance off people receiving 12k pa, 1/2 the minimum wage is not the way to do it. Not while so many other areas should have been looked at first. As for investment and spending on younger generations, I suspect the investment is significantly more than on the Old Age Pension per capita given the contributions already paid by pensioners. It will certainly be less than the welfare given to people who have never contributed; that would be my start point; that would probably cover the pensions and investment in the young.

    One major issue here, and not being recognised, is that this decision and the following debate(s), whether they need the Winter fuel allowance or not, is generating severe anxiety and stress into the population of pensioners who already feel most vulnerable and helpless in terms of having no influence or control over judgements and decisions being made and the possible impact on their lives.
