For future reference, NEVER give the customer a quote. You cant legally change a quote, but you can change an estimate. Therefore have a contract which states, " this is an estimate not a definate contract price. Labour charges may change due to unforeseen further work required and parts, materials prices may change due to circumstances beyond our control". Customer must sign and agree before you start the work. Kudos for what you did but of you intend to stay in business, you cant work for free!
Until the bill is paid, you have a legal right to keep the vehicle, (called articifiers lien) until the bill is cleared.

I couldn't do that to him, i know the full story behind it.
I always keep the channel honest and show my failings, too many other channels making it look like they never have a problem.

At some point everyone will make that mistake. Looking at your before shots, its had some patches in the past, and bet that wasnt cheap for the owner. Its great that the channels i watch such as you and chops etc show the good and the bad. As you say you might have lost your arse on this, but you have done the right thing for the customer, and the trust and relationship may repay going forward as he may give you repeat business, plus nothing advertises better than personal recommendations online and by wird of mouth

Welding work is more often than not, as straight forward as it seems. Always allow for additional work and if you don't need to do it, it's a bonus for you and the owner. (Which you've obviously learnt the hard way).
Cracking job btw. I have a habit of putting a smidge of fibreglass filler on the weld as it's waterproof and protects the weld. Wee skim of Cataloy on top and Bob's yer uncle.
You needed that bigger unit, get a ramp in there and it'll make life so much easier and allow you to make more money quicker. Good luck guys.

Great job on the motorhome. Welding is an art on rusty vehicles , the tin worm has a habit of munching behind the scenes and when you price accordingly people think its expensive but its money well earned .
