you have to do this more zak. im a low level player and i did their mistakes that you said it in the game almost every match. if you saw and explain us maybe i like this game more. because its too hard for me to go fast castle in average time. you are a perfect commenter. if i buy the forgotten empires thats because of you. :)

Not having fixed teams, basically a FFA and requiring diplomacy makes these games 10x more exciting to watch. 4v4s where one team is doing badly so they gg 10 minutes in gets kind of tedious. Plus with noobs you get to see all the crazy, "what the hell is he doing" moments. This was hands down the best match I've ever watched.
Holy crap that game was unbelievable! So many highlights I am not even kidding. The relic captures, the glitched gold, the demolition boats, multi-kills, Admiral Klaymen's suicide fleet, the lonely soldier, the alliance switches, the resource hogging, the base moving. Just wow. This game was so good I think it really captured the spirit of Age of Empires. The ending though, man that was a harsh way to end, even though Castor won with a massive score, but Blade being the last active player with the highest score.
I believe this must be the single most influential video on aoe2 history. So many players found their way back into the game because they found it was not dead with this video popping up on the recommendations, including myself.
Got abit nostalgic and decided to google the AoE theme song....I found this instead. Watched every minute off it. this made me buy the game again after 15 years. I never would have thought there be a playing AoE community again . see you on the battlefeild !
Patrik Richter Microsoft just canceled it way too soon. They didn't know what they had. I think still the graphics, gameplay and strategy potential is the best ever in RTS till this day. And the sound effects and voicing- cool as f*ck
+Canadian_Goose He also had that one legendary dock that allowed Castor to trade and make the epic turn around. If that dock wasn't there, blade would have won without question.
+Canadian_Goose I just died watching klaymen and listening to Zero comments. Btw, is Castor (yellow) from Québec ? Is name mean beaver in french. Just woundering...
6 years later and I feel like this game was a huge moment in the growth of the AOE2 community. Salutes to Zero, and the 6 immortal legends Castor, Blade, SheepSlaughter, Metallic, SelfControl and the great Klaymen47.
I can't fucking believe I watched through the entirety of this mess! Fucking Clayman and his mangonels Top 3 moments: 3: Castor making a comeback after getting leveled completely 2: SheepSlaughter building the third monastery on that island with relics, ROFL 1: Clayman's plan to repopulate the world with one villager - gets taken down immediately by yellow Galleon. "...Shit" lulz
+RogerWilco Or he could've just researched cartography! But who am I to question Klaymen the Legend's play, I mean he was clearly in control of that match from the Dark Age.
+Thymine why do I get the feeling that the devs for African kingdoms watched this game and said we gotta make cartography free and researched instantly to help this idiot (not a dis on klaymen that guy made this game awesome)
Alex Oelkers I'm just slightly excited about a third installment in the game I have yet to play. I've heard enough about the Cossacks Anthology from users on GOG.com's General Discussions board to purchase it during a sale.
***** yeah the third one basically takes the old school one and remasters it to a modern game, allowing you to command thousands of units now. Developers really don't make games like this any more.
Damn this was an epic video from start to finish though it was an anticlimactic ending but still awesome video! My very favorite parts are: -Klaymen near the beginning having no idea what's going on... or did he? -Sheepslaughter and Klaymens last stand on the little island fortress -Metallics last unit, the two handed swordsman just wandering around the world. -"Will Klaymen find a way for his Galleons to reproduce?" xD -And your love for the demolition ships haha
ya wtf its like all the comments are either a year+ old or 15 hours-1 month old. why does youtube do that? just goes on waves of old videos in people's recommended list. ive never played this game, idk why its in mine.
same! I started out estranged, but was hooked not too far along and the commentary just kept me engaged the whole way... eventually I really wanted to see how it all panned out! :D
I should probably note, this is the top result for "Age of Empires 2 game with the most backstabbing". This was really glorious to watch. The slow buildup, the battle of Relic Island, slowly realizing as the game wears on that Castor's empire is ACTUALLY being rebuilt while everyone ignores him... just perfect.
I can't believe how entertaining this was LOL! More satisfying than a lot of hollywood movies. I just can't believe sheepslaughter didn't pull off the relic victory!!! He had like 30,000 wood and 2,500 gold he coulda made docks all around the island and spawned demo ships. that woulda been sooooo epic!
***** Castor. I gotta say this, you are one tough son of a bitch. :P Your own friend Blade betrayed you, eradicated you from your town, you rebuild in the OPPOSITE corner of the map and actually seem to take the game. That is insane dude. :P My respect to you for sure. :) The number one rule: Never give up! Never surrender!
I'm a student studying international relations (IR) theory and I'm quite excited to see how IR theories actually apply in this game perfectly. Realism says anarchy is here to stay, there is no world police so states have to rely, mostly, on themselves, this is also named as the self-help system which will also generate what's called "security dilemma" that suggests one state's being more secured will necessarily render other states being less secured. States, under this self-help system, will do Internal balancing and External balancing to maximize their security and power. Internal balancing is to build up your internal power while External balancing is to form alliances (mostly not lasting long) to boost one's resources and capabilities. A bipolar system is the most stable and the tripolar system is always the least. A bipolar system, for example, is when the game begins they form a 3v3 group competition, this is more stable because states will have less incentives to switch sides (given that 1 island houses 3 players, they gotta be united) to maintain the balance; A tripolar system is when the other 3 players are eliminated and the remaining 3 players will most likely form a 2v1 alliance to eliminate the under-dog; a bipolar system will emerge again when there is only 2 remaining players. The shadow of the future also plays in the part here. In this game, for instance, people will naturally expect you to form alliance with the peers in the same island. If you were to switch sides to betray your allies, forming a 2v4 where the betrayer is on the 4 side, you are in trouble because other players will think of you as a betrayer, which will weaken the betrayer's future survival ability because the incentives to forming alliance with the betrayer would be much less. This, however, does not apply to the game here because they would not meet each other again after three hours and there were no other players except the six of them. Forgive me for skipping the conclusion btw wth am i doing here: Doing an essay midterm on YT which I was supposed to watch sth rather than write sth??
Our dear lord Castor, Forgive us our trespasses and give us your spare gold, Lead us not into SelfControl but deliver us from Blade. Send onto us your minister Klayman, To give us your holy teachings and save the SheepSlaughter, Let us all trade with ships and spare dolphins though metal they may be, Amen.
Well... Would you look at that, I feel the time is near, a 'ZeroEmpire Christmas Special' consisting of a re match of myself and the others from this game. Let's get this thing going people! ^•^
More noob games It's so unpredictable, With pro games it almost turns into check list right up until imperial. These games are amazing because you never know what's going to happen.
1:41:36 "I doubt anyone is ever gonna watch this through from start to finish. That would be a little bit insane." Almost 2 million views later... Btw: This is actually the 3rd time I've watched this chaotic game. And I still find it very entertaining.
48:30. Zero: "In come the demolition ships! This can be huge! Detonate, detonate! Oh my god look at that! and again...! OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH CASTOR... OHHHHH YES CASTOR...."
I am really enjoying this video and think you add a lot to it with your commentary. It's like watching a professional sports broadcast. I'm learning a ton about strategy by listening and watching. So great!
That was insane. Im gonna imagine a Game of Thrones parallel to this because it was fucking amazing. Starting with Castor, he was clearly the Starks, the hero we were all rooting for, and having been scattered over the map to rebuild. Next is Blade, the Boltons. (Could also be Freys, but he became to strong to be such a shit family). He made a despicable move and betrayed Castor early with the selfish aim of eliminating the strongest player. In doing so he eliminated his chance of winning. Because of Selfcontrol, the Lannisters. The powerhouse of the west with only shit teams to help him at the start. He kept making alliances and breaking them as Lannisters do. But he kept himself strong and did what was needed to survive. Then comes SheepSlaughter, the Baratheons (Stannis). Relatively weak at the start, and relying on the Lord of Light to take him to victory. No-one cared for him till he made a claim to victory. Then he got crushed at the coast. Next we have MetallicDolphin. They follow none other than Beric Dondarrion. Were strong early on, but later in the game were very few in number and mostly insignificant. And Dondarrion, the immortal, remained alive even at the end on this side of justice. Lastly, we have the legend. Klaymen47. I was unsure on what family to make him. Is he a Greyjoy because of his immortal fleet and sneaky alliances? Is he a Martell as he appears weak but actually has a grand master plan. Is he a Tully, crushed by the Lannisters and now helping the Starks to victory? Lol in the end im glad Castor ended up where he did. In my eyes he won. Blade turning on him so early with no warning while he was being crushed by Selfcontrol on the other side was cruel :)
Not the average viewer, the average view duration. To get the average viewer, you'd do better with the median view duration, which is probably much lower.
Just finished watching this game all the way through, absolutely amazing!!! Definitely one of the most interesting and fun games I have ever seen you commentate on Zak. These kind of games for me are better than those of the really good pros because not everything is perfect and the same build orders/methods are used; whereas in pro games it can become a bit repetitive. Hopefully more games like this (of course not necessarily as long :P) appear on this channel because watching this has made my day :D
Corni Check Yeah i checked it soon after, because i found some friends in AOM who still had some keys for AOE 2 and they gifted one to me. But i have to assume that its way harder than AOM o.0
I did when I first bought it. I opened up a random and took my time leisurely making a nice town..... I ended up being annihilated by one sneaky mangonel...
Klaymen the absolute legend. God I started this game figuring I'd skip ahead and watch 20-30 minutes of it, I just watched the entire thing in one sitting and it was worth every minute. Such good show, gg guys
This was the very first AoE-related RUclips Video I’ve ever watched. It was 3 years ago, when I was depressed and had the sudden urge to play AoE II and decided to check if RUclips had any AoE content, and this vid was right up there on the search results 😂 Ended up watching this 3 times the entire night till dawn #noregrets
As someone who is brand new to this game I can not express just how much I've actually learned simply from watching this video. So much of what to do AND what not to do, and I was so disappointed that we never got to see a final showdown because of a disconnect!
Wow after a long time of not playing this game, i really enjoyed this competitive match! Thank you! Side note: one of the best aspects i always loved about AOE was losing all your population and rebuilding everything at the side of the map with two villagers! Castor rocked!
i don't watch all that many matches like this one, but i gotta say: the commentator (ZeroEmpires?) does a great job of being lively and detailed, with a good balance between straight-forward description and color commentary.
I like how it started like a normal AoE II match and then all of a sudden the south is covered in green and grey, red and teal almost dissapeared, yellow went from one end of the map to the other and orange retreated to a small island where he defended the relics with his life. It is truly an unique match
Around the one hour mark, I start needing a diagram to keep track of who's fighting whom. :P The best example of that is at 1:11:00, when Castor's cannon galleon comes in and you expect him to reinforce SelfControl against Sheep's relic fortress, and instead he goes after SC's trebuchets.
My first memory of this game was 16 years ago, when I was sitting on the lap of my dad watching him playing this game. First game I ever played and the MOST CLASSIC EVER. Back then all the internet cafes in China were filled with AOE players. 16 years later. Age of Empires is BACK!
Apparently Im insane because I couldnt stop watching this match! Man what a crazy game, legends born and died during the span of one game.. Gotta say the commentary is probably what pulled me through the most, great job casting this match!
+Edvared heb je deze in zn geheel gezien tho? want dit potje is echt te ziek voor woorden. also, wat zou het kut zijn als ik meteen de eerste ronde tegen jou verlies
I dont know why or how... but I watched it from the start to the end... holy shit... I also have no words :D Just rememebered playing original AoE2 in 2000s :)
Randomly youtubed age of empires II pro games after picking up hd. Was pretty shocked to see a 2 hour video had over 1.5 million views. Having watched it all, it's totally deserved!
@17:37 it makes perfect sense. He built the monastery in the back of his base in a less exposed position- the one on the island would be taken down easily. It was a safer place for the relics. He built the one of the island to have monks be created there, so they don't have to walk all the way across the map.
If all 455,326 viewers watched the entire video, a total of 895,474 hours would have been spent. If all those viewers spent that time working at the US minimum wage of USD 7.25 an hour, that would have amounted to USD 6,492,186.50
I think it's fantastic that something like this recieves more likes and comments than a Viper game, it just goes to show that there's so much more to AoC than the competitive aspect and that even without the high level pro games there would be a huge community of people who will always love and enjoy AoC no matter what. you guys rock!
Rematch with more relics, demolition ships and more klaymen
orange and his relic management :D awesome!
The lone soldiers live on in our hearts 😉
I'm up for a re match, I need a re match with Klay ahaha
you have to do this more zak. im a low level player and i did their mistakes that you said it in the game almost every match. if you saw and explain us maybe i like this game more. because its too hard for me to go fast castle in average time. you are a perfect commenter. if i buy the forgotten empires thats because of you. :)

You're a legend for this
Make this into a script and let Netflix make a movie of this epic game
"but I don't think anyone will watch this all the way through from start to finish." this is my 4th time watching
wow that's pretty sad :)
yea..that is pretty sad

Klaymen is so shit at the game, but damn is he a legend.
+Canadian_Goose I don't get why he is a legend, sorry i am back to AOE from years,

amazing
"Classic Klaymen" Is the new AOE meme.
No the new meme is "GET IT TOGETHER KLAYMEN"
Why not both.
Goldenhand the Just Because I already MADE the shitty artwork of it.
Goldenhand the Just ger
I can't fucking believe I watched through the entirety of this mess! Fucking Clayman and his mangonels
Top 3 moments:
3: Castor making a comeback after getting leveled completely
2: SheepSlaughter building the third monastery on that island with relics, ROFL
1: Clayman's plan to repopulate the world with one villager - gets taken down immediately by yellow Galleon. "...Shit" lulz
Hahaha Klaymen asking if anyone has seen some action while his team is getting wrecked!!
+aimlesfez Yeah, I think there was a lot of poor communication there.
+aimlesfez LOL. I completely cracked up when i saw that
+RogerWilco Or he could've just researched cartography!
What time did he ask if his team were seeing any action?
Probably one of the best games ever released.
Should check out Cossacks 3. It just released this week.
Wait, what?
***** ?
Alex Oelkers
I'm just slightly excited about a third installment in the game I have yet to play. I've heard enough about the Cossacks Anthology from users on GOG.com's General Discussions board to purchase it during a sale.
***** yeah the third one basically takes the old school one and remasters it to a modern game, allowing you to command thousands of units now. Developers really don't make games like this any more.
aahahahaha, this match was entirely worth the 2 hours I wasted on the vid xD
khatack Time that you enjoy wasting is not time wasted!
ZeroEmpires - Age of Empires 2
I think that's debatable, but I see your point :)
khatack saw it two times now. Best game ever played!!!
khatack
"...I doubt anyone is going to actually watch this through from start to finish."
-Zak
Proud to prove him wrong :3
THE LEGEND OF KLAYMEN
khatack 30 minutes in! So far so good :D
the sound of that battle horn combined with the "yooooo" sound when someone dies wakes up a lot of memories and nostalgia!
Klaymen was like "is there any activity on the map ?"
While Trebs are unpacking outside his base.
Damn this was an epic video from start to finish though it was an anticlimactic ending but still awesome video!
My very favorite parts are:
-Klaymen near the beginning having no idea what's going on... or did he?
-Sheepslaughter and Klaymens last stand on the little island fortress
-Metallics last unit, the two handed swordsman just wandering around the world.
-"Will Klaymen find a way for his Galleons to reproduce?" xD
-And your love for the demolition ships haha
+MisoSoup247 You forgot the betrayals and that castor!
I feel like SelfControl was the only one trying to have a normal game lmao
BlitzTaifun / DragonScales you do realize your replying to a comment made three years ago, right ?
So what is the problem
Okay okay, 6 months later, here I am watching this again. It never gets old. My all time favorite aoe2 vid.
I watch this video once a year. It's amazing.
Its 2016 and I get a recommendation to watch this so I did and I loved it.
lol ikr.
same here, watching this while installing some stuff :)
ya wtf its like all the comments are either a year+ old or 15 hours-1 month old. why does youtube do that? just goes on waves of old videos in people's recommended list. ive never played this game, idk why its in mine.
Could not have said it better!
same here. i used to play this game like 14 years ago
I found this surprisingly entertaining, I literally watched it all.
Selfcontrol: WHERED U GET GOLD???
Castor: muhahahah
Me: *Dies laughing*
dunno, just thought that was so funny
*****
Castor.
Castor and Klaymon...The peoples heros
Viper00799 Klaymon sounds cooler for me :P :() :I :R
Viper00799 damn did not see how old ur comment was...i think im blind for missing that comment
btw u the one and only?
Amen.
Well... Would you look at that, I feel the time is near, a 'ZeroEmpire Christmas Special' consisting of a re match of myself and the others from this game. Let's get this thing going people! ^•^
Maybe rematch needs to happen someone needs to get on that
GG Metallic damn i supported your team throughout the game
More noob games
It's so unpredictable, With pro games it almost turns into check list right up until imperial.
These games are amazing because you never know what's going to happen.
When Klaymen's last villager died......i was on the floor laughing
1:41:36 "I doubt anyone is ever gonna watch this through from start to finish. That would be a little bit insane."
Almost 2 million views later...
Btw: This is actually the 3rd time I've watched this chaotic game. And I still find it very entertaining.
Lol same, I think it's either my third or fourth time. I don't even play AoE online, I just used to play the shit out of the demo version as a kid
Klayman actually is the reason that Castor managed to get back into the game, because of the dock, so that Castor could get gold.
What an epic game. Castor is such a hero for beating back Blade The Great Betrayer.
This popped back in my feed, this is some of your best work.
1:09 the Legend Begins
When you said that you will upload this match on youtube and nobody would see it. It made me smile.
Awesome game.
48:30. Zero: "In come the demolition ships! This can be huge! Detonate, detonate! Oh my god look at that! and again...! OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH CASTOR... OHHHHH YES CASTOR...."
Quotes. Get it in there XD
thats what he said
I am really enjoying this video and think you add a lot to it with your commentary. It's like watching a professional sports broadcast. I'm learning a ton about strategy by listening and watching. So great!
hands down greatest game ever, klayman shall live on in our dreams
This has been an emotional roller coaster.... the build up, the betrayals, unlikely allies form and a legend was born... what a game
Blade turning on him so early with no warning while he was being crushed by Selfcontrol on the other side was cruel :)
this is one of the most iconic games that has ever been played on AoE2
klaymen is love
klaymen is life
"I don't think anyone would ever watch this whole thing thrue" Almost a million views later :D
How many of which watched the whole thing?
I did!
I sure did aswell
In the statistics of the video it says the average viewer watched 11 mins :(
Not the average viewer, the average view duration. To get the average viewer, you'd do better with the median view duration, which is probably much lower.
Ah diplomacy games... You should play/narrate more of these zak. They are always fun to watch. So chaotic.
I keep coming back to this video every year or so, just because I love it so much.
I found a great video here. I don't play strategy games, but I love to play around with them, and see others do that too.
THAT WAS THE WORST ENDING EVER WHY WHY WHY JUST WHY
Havent played or even seen a game of AoE ever in my life, but this game is still so funny to watch! :D
WhiteVampire888 You should definetely try it out its lots of fun. :)
Corni Check
Yeah i checked it soon after, because i found some friends in AOM who still had some keys for AOE 2 and they gifted one to me. But i have to assume that its way harder than AOM o.0
WhiteVampire888 I dont know much about AoM, only played it years ago with a friend sometimes, but you're right it has a lot of depth in it. :)
Yes! You guys should do more of these "Diplomacy" type multiplayer games!
i watched this from start to finish.
Yo me too. That fucking ending though...
Ive got no idea how i ended up here
I spent so much time playing this game when it first came out. Glad to see it brought back to life.
did anyone else play age of empires like sims except a whole country when you were a kid?
I did when I first bought it. I opened up a random and took my time leisurely making a nice town.....
I ended up being annihilated by one sneaky mangonel...
+Unique and Hilarious Username It was the first thing i ever did gaming related :D
Klaymen the absolute legend.
God I started this game figuring I'd skip ahead and watch 20-30 minutes of it, I just watched the entire thing in one sitting and it was worth every minute.
Such good show, gg guys
47:36 "Klaymen has the mind of a flower picking girl" laughed harder id like to admit"
This is the most viewed game of aoe2 on youtube right now and the 3rd most viewed aoe2 video overall.
BRING THEM BACK TOGETHER IN ANOTHER VID PLZ
This was the very first AoE-related RUclips Video I’ve ever watched. It was 3 years ago, when I was depressed and had the sudden urge to play AoE II and decided to check if RUclips had any AoE content, and this vid was right up there on the search results 😂
Ended up watching this 3 times the entire night till dawn #noregrets
I used to love games like this before I got my porn addiction.
wait till you develop a new weird fetish...
But this one has camels !!
oh the good old companions.
lol
As someone who is brand new to this game I can not express just how much I've actually learned simply from watching this video. So much of what to do AND what not to do, and I was so disappointed that we never got to see a final showdown because of a disconnect!
Take a shot every time he says "fast castle". Dead by the 15th minute mark.
Wow after a long time of not playing this game, i really enjoyed this competitive match! Thank you!
Side note: one of the best aspects i always loved about AOE was losing all your population and rebuilding everything at the side of the map with two villagers! Castor rocked!
RIP KLAYMAN YOU WILL BE REMEMBERED
Got it recommended, 2017, watched the whole thing, no regrets. Age of Empires 2, best games I've ever layed hands on. What an evergreen of a game
the most absured and amazing game I've ever seen
i don't watch all that many matches like this one, but i gotta say: the commentator (ZeroEmpires?) does a great job of being lively and detailed, with a good balance between straight-forward description and color commentary.
please get these players back together for another round.
This match just put a whole new meaning to the word "epic"! Certainly damn worth watching all the way through.
why watch pro AOE games. When you see lower rated players duke it out and get these great games
This is the magic of FFA games! ;)
The best example of that is at 1:11:00, when Castor's cannon galleon comes in and you expect him to reinforce SelfControl against Sheep's relic fortress, and instead he goes after SC's trebuchets.
My first memory of this game was 16 years ago, when I was sitting on the lap of my dad watching him playing this game. First game I ever played and the MOST CLASSIC EVER. Back then all the internet cafes in China were filled with AOE players. 16 years later. Age of Empires is BACK!
> now I have only galleons to reproduce
*drumroll* I SHIP IT
Oh god Attila the pun strikes again he's here to slaughter all my sheep!
Apparently Im insane because I couldnt stop watching this match! Man what a crazy game, legends born and died during the span of one game.. Gotta say the commentary is probably what pulled me through the most, great job casting this match!
incredible. i laughed, i cried, klayman for president.
time for my yearly rewatch again
Didn't expect to actually watch the video, all the way through, but it was too damn exciting and entertaining! Nice commenting, for that long! :D
I watched from start to finish. Brilliant.
Played the game when it first came out. Damn I'm old.
We demand a rematch!
I was 13 when this game came out...this is my childhood. Seeing it played competitively is breaking my heart. Thank you for the upload!
I dont know why or how... but I watched it from the start to the end... holy shit... I also have no words :D Just rememebered playing original AoE2 in 2000s :)
That's a game that I keep coming back to time and time again, with popcorn on the side 🍿
1:41:35 " I doubt anyone is going to watch this all the way through"
Hah, you underestimate my lack of a life.
Randomly youtubed age of empires II pro games after picking up hd. Was pretty shocked to see a 2 hour video had over 1.5 million views. Having watched it all, it's totally deserved!
Still enjoying this in 2019
brings back so much memories from my childhood. this game was and still the best.
There is no sexual that a galleon is. You heard it here folks.
Green not building a dock at the start was a bit silly, but after 1 and a half hours you'd think he'd throw one down at least
I love the Shakespeare reference at 29:17
@17:37 it makes perfect sense. He built the monastery in the back of his base in a less exposed position- the one on the island would be taken down easily. It was a safer place for the relics. He built the one of the island to have monks be created there, so they don't have to walk all the way across the map.
It wasn't the highest level AoE game, it wasn't the cleverest, it wasn't even the most surprising... But God Damn It! IT WAS THE BEST!
It's your commentating of the game that makes it for us viewers..first view of this type of battle and very entertaining..tks for all your time
If all 455,326 viewers watched the entire video, a total of 895,474 hours would have been spent.
If all those viewers spent that time working at the US minimum wage of USD 7.25 an hour, that would have amounted to USD 6,492,186.50
+Timothy Kuok Think of all the florins they could generate by watching ZE stream tho. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
+Timothy Kuok this is not how life works
This was a weird map weird game but i enjoyed every minute of this weird game video. Nice comentary thanks Zero for this! you've gained a sub!
you could write a book on this.. best match ever!
I know I would read it for sure :D
just absolutely my favourite video on this website
