my school is doing this for our production, and as the bassist in the band, I can safely say this is my absolute favourite to play in the whole musical
my high school did this play when i was in ninth grade and the actress for morticia was... so gooooooood like my friend and i would go to the wings as soon as this song began and we were literally swooning it made us both 10 times gayer every time we heard her sing

I'm playing Alice in my school's production and this song is the reason I ship Alice and Morticia but only in an AU where Pugsley never steals the acrimonium. A concept: So in Act 1 Alice and Mal seem like their marriage is falling apart but they're still together for Lucas. They try to ignore the problems in their marriage and keep going as if everything is fine but they end up realizing they're only pretending so they split. The secret about Wednesday and Lucas getting married would come out after Morticia overhears Gomez say it directly while he's pacing in their bedroom or something (instead of her overhearing Gomez, Wednesday, and Lucas talking about their plan) and Morticia would freak the fuck out. Morticia would end up leaving Gomez for good because he kept a secret from her and blah blah blah. Wednesday and Lucas would elope because Alice never fainted which means Mal never yelled at Gomez during Full Disclosure and the two families don't (as Lucas puts it) want to kill each other. Then Morticia and Alice, already friends, become closer friends because of their children marrying each other and confiding in each other about their marriages and fall for each other as time passes creating a cute lesbian romance.
I played Alice my senior year of hs, God playing her was so fun, my best friend got Morticia, this song was great. I got screwed over by the Mal actor being bad at acting/singing 😒

The girl who played Morticia was absolutely amazing and it was so much fun to play with a more professional and ngl, better cast 😅 they were all very lovely people as well and have inspired me a lot 😊

I know I'm a year late but "Never keep a secret In his life" sounds so much better than "never keep a secret from me"... you really don't want to end a song like this on an E vowel. Try singing it out and you'll hear the difference. the I vowel is so much cleaner and is harder to nasal up. E is a vowel that can sound super nasally if done or said wrong...and Morticia is such a clearly spoken woman that an E vowel at the end of one of her biggest songs would sound truly awful.
