      Sorry to be so off topic but does any of you know a way to get back into an Instagram account?
      I somehow forgot the account password. I love any tips you can give me.

    Valve adjustment a year ago really doesn't count any more, but I'd look at the timing, power of the spark (check spark color at night by pulling a plug). Fuel pressure and vacuum leaks. Once parts are 40h+ years old, you really can't just automatically trust them. Hoses, wires, etc... Super clean Z! I'd start with the easy things first. Use propane to check for vacuum leaks, check power of the sparks, check timing, electric connection, etc...

      I’ll look into it! Maybe those valves need adjustment again!

    Typed that before you said you lashed them already I would just take the cover off and check again with mine they need adjust more often than you'd think

      Thanks for watching until the end and for the suggestion! I actually switched to a thicker oil, 10w 30 and the noise went away, I guess these old cars just need a bit more cushion because their tolerances aren’t so tight in comparison to newer cars. Have been tick-free for a while now because of that :)

    Have you watched the cam and rockers move with out the cover on , might want to run that test with out the injectors and coil plugged in .

    • @JordanPayneLV
      @JordanPayneLV  4 года назад +1

      I haven’t! But I’ve heard that the stock rockers can be really noisy, and if you get your engine rebuilt it’s often suggested to get new rockers. Something I’ve considered. But actually since this video I switched to a thicker oil and the ticking is substantially less, almost non-existent!

      It’s worth it to clean the engine bay up but it’s just as effective as the stock system!

  • @ryanotown22
    @ryanotown22 4 года назад

    Did you change your clutch? Could possibly be coming from the clutch area hard to tell in the video, I had a rattle that kinda sounded like that and it was my clutch plate was loose

    • @JordanPayneLV
      @JordanPayneLV  4 года назад

      AZ 280z we did about 5 years ago, I haven’t heard that suggestion before but it’s certainly something to check out. Do you know what I might want to investigate to find out?

      @@JordanPayneLV
      Well if if the noise is coming from the lower back of the engine could be the pressure plate or flywheel bolts loose. Try to poinpoint the noise area if you can. The other area mine rattled like that was the heat shield above the headers it would rattle like crazy until I tightened it down during acceleration

    • @JordanPayneLV
      @JordanPayneLV  4 года назад

      @@ryanotown22 Awesome suggestion thank you! I had the same heat shield issue but that got resolved, this might be the issue! Hmmmm

  • @bentran2076

    I just picked up a 77’ 280z and it’s having a fueling problem. I get fuel to the rails and the pressure is good. But they aren’t firing and I don’t know why. If anyone could help that’d be great.

    • @JordanPayneLV
      @JordanPayneLV  3 года назад

      Well if you’re getting pressure to the rail it could be that your injector harness needs replacing (cheaply found on zcardepot), or you may need to replace your injectors. Lastly make sure there’s no problem with the other wires related to the injectors
      It could be getting gas in the cylinders but needs a new distributor cap

  • @markpini349

    What fuel rail is that

  • @blacktopmedia
    @blacktopmedia 4 года назад +1

    Might be your heat shield

    • @JordanPayneLV
      @JordanPayneLV  4 года назад +1

      Definitely a good suggestion but that was my problem in the past, not this time! I did add a heavier oil a little while ago and it’s completely removed the rattling. I think I had too thin of oil for our heat here in vegas!

      @@JordanPayneLV Forsure then it’s your rockers I wouldn’t wait until they get worse to fix! And as per the fuel rail I just bought a 280z and man I’m the second owner in 25 years hasn’t run since then in cali. It’s a huge rabbit hole of wanting to make it in pristine shape to modify it or just to fix what’s wrong and slowly build it! Your videos help a lot
