Army is full of people. Its therefore full of weird stuff and situations. I bet there are soldiers murdered in the army and presented in reports as suicide or self harm. I just hope its very rare. On the other hand wast majority of friendly fire is really just that, accidental friendly kills. I know many stories where dudes even from special forces have killed themselves when cleaning their firearm. Also I know a couple of stories from war in Bosnia where a soldier at night time would go pee or for any other weird reason would go out of the foxhole / trench (just couple of meters away even) and on the way back his mate would be so scared that he would shoot him. I also heard combat happening between friendly units as they missjudged them for the enemy and radio comms were broken. Its all part of human imperfection and crazy world of warfare. I pray that one day our friend Jean loses his job here because all the wars stop and there is nothing to talk about anymore. Much love bro ❤ thx for the video.

"accidentally shot while cleaning firearm" has been a very ambiguous phrase for a very long time. Most raw recruits with just a couple of weeks of training knows to always treat a gun like its loaded.

That’s so sad. But strange to find this in the archive.

Accident casualties were extraordinarily high in all services for every nation.

    Could very well be suicide!

It’s a common story. You hear about accidentally killed while cleaning his gun all the time. Some are just not temperamentally suited to safely handle firearms.

That happens when you forcefully conscript anyone that have hands and can walk, it's not a fault of anyone to not know how the firearm works.

Mamma mia! He must have had polenta for brains.
A Carcano bolt action is so simple! How do you screw that up!

Definitely not polenta (northern italian dish), this guy was from Latina (near Rome, center italy) so probably had a big overcooked spaghetti ball for brains

"accidentally killed while cleaning their gun" is an old time euphemism for suicide since suicide was considered sinful and people back then didnt want to make a spectacle out of the situation in deference for the feelings of the persons family. not saying for sure thats what this situation is, but it very well could be.
