When building painted cabinet doors with raised panels, MDF can be a good choice for the panel itself. Medium density fiberboard is available in wide widths, it's stable and it takes paint well. However, it does have a downside. Machining which exposes the inner core can leave a fuzzy texture which telegraphs through to the paint. In this video I'll show how I deal with that issue.

Nothing special at all. One primer coat, I prefer Zinnser 123 primer. Then two coats of a pearl sheen paint by Benjamin Moore in the homeowners choice of color. All paint was brushed.

Good tips, thank you. Do you set your table saw blade around 10^ ? Thanks Jake

I can't recall now what angle the bit is, but probably around 12-14 degrees and the saw blade is set to match.

You could also use HDF instead that will give you a way better surface and end result.

Actually, that's not the case. HDF, commonly known as "hardboard," comes only in thin sheets, around 1/4 inch to 5/16 inch. That's not enough for a cabinet door panel. I'm not even sure how it would machine, I've never tried it. HDF is used often in manufacturing, such as for laminate flooring.

I stand corrected 😀 it was not HDF i used to remake the fronts on our kitchen. It was a higher quality MDF than your standard home Depot. It also featured a coating on the backside making it the same kind the manufacturer uses in the industry. 😀
