    I prefer rp builds than optimized or min/max builds because it is more fun that way. It is also the reason I play on story/easy difficulty.

      I start with a character concept, and then look for the best character I can make consistent with it. I don't nerf myself for the sake of it in a SP game, OTOH, I don't min/max either, unless it's an unfair build. But to me unfair and RP don't go together well.

      @@shawngillogly6873 I do the same however, some of my builds are tend to be weak especially in the later arcs. For example, I am playing an orlan monk in pillars of eternity and rignt now I can say orlan race is not designed to be an unarmed monk. However, I am having a blast with it.

      I'm somewhere in between, I come up with basic idea for a character then a basic build for them. I don't "plan" though, I just think about what I want them to be. I usually play on Core because I find it just about right, but I would simply tone it down if the build wasn't working, I don't care what difficulty I'm playing on, I just want a certain challenge and a certain character.

    I love these kinda videos, getting a peek into peoples heads about how they learn a game is really cool.
    Saw there was a decent patch and decided I wanted to do an evil playthrough for the holidays since the decepticon virus is going nuts and I have time off and no where to go. And I wanted to do a normal or normal+ custom difficulty playthrough so this is very helpful as I try to preplan some stuff.

    I use a spreadsheet to make some notes just to show what feats at each level and to add ToDos. Humans also get the extra skill point and access to the Fast Learner feat. So humans make great skill monkeys. I am about to finish a Lich Path - it is the best arcane caster path, but other paths are more fun.

    the most complicated part of building a character is when characters get bonus feats like rangers... so you dont want to pick those bonus feats for you regular feats and you want to "time" those picks right in case of prequisites. classic example here is dipping 2 into ranger which allows you to pick power attack even if you have no strength at all on your character...

    Could you do a raptor riding javelin build? I've been trying to sort a fun hafling build for it. But it's really unclear of this could actually work. I'm trying a sneaky build that uses the dino to body block, then hop on and weapon swap for clean up charges. Can this be a thing?
    I couldn't find a way to just ride around on him and shoot. Maybe just give him the trips and stuns and back up? Free disengages? Run around a skirt the melee.

    Can you do a video about how multi-classing works? I have a sorcerer/dragon disciple build and I'm not sure if there is a glitch or I just don't understand these systems. I am still getting sorcerer abilities even though I stopped leveling in the class. Is that how it's supposed to me? If I take one level in monk, would I continue to get monk class abilities as I go up?

    • @MortismalGaming
      @MortismalGaming  2 года назад +1

      Dragon disciple is a prestige class which typically carry forward parts of other classes as applicable. Draconic bloodline sorcerers carry forth their bloodline abilities + levels in their spellcasting into the dragon disciple prestige class because that's the intended synergy.

    • @joelhenry5489
      @joelhenry5489 2 года назад

      @@MortismalGaming Thanks for the response. The guide says we get the sorcerer spell progression but not other benefits the class would gain, so I was confused because I got both the breath weapon and dragon form spells from the sorcerer class as a Dragon Disciple as well as from the prestige class itself. It's awesome because I have so many dragon form spells at my disposal. It just seemed weird and a little redundant. So I wasn't sure if it was intended or specific to this prestige class.

    The thing i hate the most is that i make builds based on PnP knowledge and this does not work in this game.
    In pnp using all your spell slots on AC buffing is basically wasting them because nothing will ever require that much AC(the tarrasque has an attack bonus of +37. You see those numbers in midgame WotR), and the same is even more true on attack bonus.
    I started the game thinking "it can't ve worse than Knight of the Chalice 2" and it isn't but holy hell it's 10 times more annoying.
    The besg way to kake D&D difficult is smart enemies and enviromental challenges. If that is too demanding, at lesst they should increase things like HP and damage instead of the numbers affected by the D20, as those need to be whitin a certain range for the system to not break apart.

    • @Voxavs
      @Voxavs 3 года назад +1

      I actually had this discussion with, a friend just yesterday. I never played PnP but from what I learned CRPGs are combat focused most of the time, which encourages certain builds or you end up having something like Disco Elysium which is essentially and RP adventure game with no combat at all. I think a decent balance could be struck, but not on the scale (both game scale and studio scale) and budget such games are made, though it is open for debate.

      @miraclemaker1418 3 года назад

      Table top and pc pathfinder are different tho, you should have thought about it at beginning. There's no GM or flexibility in the video games so its hard to implement certain aspects from table top.

    • @noukan42
      @noukan42 3 года назад

      @@majimagoro7029 it is not that hard tho. No other D&D based game, not even Kingmaker, broke the math in such a ridicolous way. And many are as challenging as wrath.

    • @majimagoro7029
      @majimagoro7029 3 года назад +1

      @@noukan42 i mean your complain as mentioned above is "smart enemies and challenging environment". If you have issue with inflated stats, like AC or higher AB, why not playing on lower difficulties instead? And again, i think game difficulty feels fine, especially after 1.1 patch, story is good, a lot more content compared to kingmaker, i though people from tabletop/DnD players should appreciate this game more, because game on this scal1e with a lot of mechanics and story, its very rare this day. This game is on par with BG 2 imo but after experiencing so many bugs still remains probably wouldn't make it so.

    I don't know, I feel like 90% of the power for most martial builds in this game comes down to 'mythic vital strike', without which vital strike is pretty bad on anything except a warpriest. I sometimes wonder how the devs of this game approached it, where they're doing a ton of work putting all these options into the game, only to have their design philosophy render probably more than 80% of those options obsolete on anything but the lowest difficulties.

    Im a longtime fan of c rpgs. Im also struck by a strange disease that means I can only play them solo...a party just doesnt interest me at all. Companion quests and stories, sure. But I wanna fight alone and be a badass taking on gods and dragons my own damn self. A lot of games obviously dont accommodate this playstyle. Pillars of eternity was the closest Id come before the pathfinder games, but this takes the cake. The level scaling means I can actually play it solo very viably, though I am locked into some class choices which kinda suck for the rp aspect. But making builds its still a very fun balancing act trying to cover as much ground in terms of AC, saves, offense and skill checks
