Plus she's going on and on about the Honda but he had to repair the accident damage on the other car to make it saleable. It's like the cleaning the fuel system JJ assumes you should just charge a bit for your time, he has to factor in the cost of the machine, the power to run it and the upkeep needed for a machine like that in case it breaks down or needs replacing. I know some mechanics are bad especially to women and rip people off, but so far he sounds like he helped her out.

This mechanic is a scammer. The sheet given to JJ shows a Honda Pilot instead of a Honda Element. The K24 engine in the Honda Element is one of the easiest engines to work on. All 4 Plugs can be replaced within 20 minutes and the valve cover gasket can be replaced in under an hour. For the air filter, you will spend more time taking the filter out of the package than actually installing it. Work on a Honda Pilot is a bit more complex. Hence why the sheet shows 6 hours of labor instead 2-3 hours. The IAC cleaning is literally done by removing two screws and spraying IAC cleaner. Takes all of 15 minutes to complete. Also, talk to any real mechanic and they will tell you that "clean fuel system" is a fluff upsell job that doesn't do anything at all unless it is being done to clean out bad fuel or fuel that has been sitting for a year.
Also, no way in hell is a mechanic going to spend 2 hours diagnosing front end alignment issues. That's the same cost as having the actual front end alignment done.

Spark plugs is right in the center of valve cover 1234 also less than an hour. And if he's a good mechanic he could have test them simple by pulling the wire off from the coil pack. Inspect and clean them?? Lol
If they need to be cleaned then he should replace them
Clean the fuel line is also a scam by most mechanics. Unless you have water or contamination in fuel in which case he would have changed the fuel filter also.
At most he poured a bottle of fuel cleaner in it.
Changing the air filter takes more time to open the hood then to change the air filter.

Everyone is wondering why she’s such an ass to the mechanic, it’s because she is an ass. She never lets no one speak or explain because she likes to build her own theory or story in her mind, once she builds a story in her mind, she sticks to it even if it’s wrong. There’s been a lot of cases in her show that are unfair ruling because of this.

2 hours to diagnose front end issues? 6 hours for ‘garage’?
Although I think that he did some work on the car(s) his explanations of the procedures, the prices he gave, and other various comments leads me to believe that although he may not be the worst case he DID a lot of padding to both labor time and materials costs, and perhaps did some unnecessary things.

Im not a mechanic HOWEVER i have had enough vehicles to know the parts may be inexpensive but the labor can be tedious which costs alot od money. Depending on where the issue is u may have to take other parts a part to fix or replace something and then put it all back together.

I normally think judge Judy is pretty fair and firm but today I don't know what was with her. She wouldn't let the mechanic speak about the job he did or at least present a partial case. Its like she already made up her mind and normally I think her decisions are pretty fair. I don't think they were today in not letting him speak. And letting the other girl speak, but the mechanic was right..this girl got 2 times the original estimate the insurance was gonna to pay her because of him! so the fact that she's there complaining about what he did and didn't do to the other car that he was gonna sell anyways, is ridiculous.!

I love JJ, but she needs to stop acting like she is an expert on everything. All she sees with this guy is that he is scamming the plaintiff. JJ does not understand that, although some of the parts are cheap, there is a lot of labor that goes into the repair.

As a shop owner I can honestly say I disagree with a lot of what JJ is saying.
Sometimes spark plugs are REALLY HARD to get to and it can be up to 2 hours to be able to remove them because of how some cars are designed

No this is upsetting as someone with techs in my family she is being completely unfair , reseal cover , checking sparks instead of just doing plugs and wires he did it as well and as cheep as possible he really did help her , but it adds up fast and I think she denied the suspension and tires because she ran out of money and wants him to pay for the rest

If your a person that works on your own shit if you get oil in there and they are in decent shape is the only reason why to clean an put back but if he replaced the valve cover he should have also replaced spark plugs and coils bc anyone that knows messy shit with oil sometimes oil will collect inside of spark plugs!!! I gotta cackle out of that sentence FR!!!

JJ doesn't know about cars at all or just flat out hates mechanics. Back when cars had pushrod OHV motors, a valve cover gasket was a 30 minute job. With OHC motors, it could take many hours to do. The cost of the gasket is cheap, the labor is a lot more. Ask a transmission guy how much it costs to change a .50 snap ring inside a transmission...

2:18 this defendant has a motor mouth, and dog poo for gray matter. He launches into a freaking diarrhea monologue for every question Judy asks, and every question she doesn't ask. Question: How do you inspect a spark plug? Reply "Remove look for contamination and wear, damaged electrodes!" Question: How do you clean a spark plug? Wash with solvents and a brush.
Most garages have a pneumatic spark plug cleaner, I worked for Honda Suzuki dealer for a couple years, we had a spark plug cleaner, looks like big water fountain with a little brush on the end of a hose that sprays the solvent as you brush it. The crap goes into a trap.
