I'm from Texas and have had a negative outlook on China my whole life. Not out of reasoning or logic, just the general anti-China culture propagated by the media here. I have to say though, after watching your videos I'm very disappointed in myself for having such an ignorant and uneducated perspective. The world as a whole is too large, diverse, and unique to have an opinion formed from just watching the news; of which is mostly just manufactured BS. Now I think I'd like to travel to China one day, and at the very least educate myself more. Gotta go to Japan first though 😄

The historical reason why some Japanese people speak negatively about China stems from their attempt to invade China from 1930s, which ultimately failed, despite causing more than 20 million Chinese deaths. To this day, they deny the war crimes they committed, and a significant group of politicians even visit the Yasukuni Shrine annually-a place that honors Class-A war criminals. Additionally, there is still a considerable number of militarism enthusiasts in Japan. Can you imagine if Germany had denied their war crimes after WWII and claimed that the number of deaths in the invaded countries was fabricated? This is one of the key reasons why the path to China -Japanese or even Korea- Japanese friendship has been so difficult.
While history is a part of it, I believe the main factor is political inclination. From the late 1970s to the early 1980s, Sino-American relations were in a honeymoon period, which was also one of the high points of Sino-Japanese relations. I think it ultimately depends on the relationship with Western countries-only when both sides' interests align can a good impression and agreements be achieved. Additionally, public opinion and polls change very quickly, often completely transforming within a few decades.

For those still sceptical about China, I don't want to convince you through words, but please pay a visit. We will welcome you as a guest. There is a 144-hour VISA policy. A lot of RUclipsrs already visited China from Japan, Korea, UK and even US. You can travel to Xinjiang freely and even Tibet (I think you need a local guide in Tibet though). My words are pale so let the fact speak. China is not perfect, I wouldn't say China is the top-rated nation in the world. But it is worth a visit. I mean, come on, even the Japanese are visiting China, considering WW2 history we have. Why do you Western guys worry so much? It is not expensive.
The biggest issue is language i believe. I speak mandarin and I have a hard time whenever i go, need to rely on my wife that has a much better reading vocabulary than I.
Most important about China is that the government is willing to listen and adapt. They have target goals and take aim to achieve them. Having 1.4Billion citizens and creating policies for everybody is a difficult task. The CCCP isn't just BS.

I follow what is happening in China quite closely. Quite frankly, the US (and the collective West) just can't compete with China. China has effective government and a clear, organized vision of where it is going. It has the best infrastructure in the world. It is the number one investor and user of renewable energy and is leading a revolution in that area. Its EVs will wipe out the legacy auto sector in the world in just a few years. It is leading in most of the cutting edge technologies. You should note that China has built its high speed rail network only since 2008. It has put down 47,000 km of track since then and has plans for another 30,000 km -right now, it has about 75% of the world HSR. China is the biggest economy in the world (by PPP) and it has the resources to do these things. It is not wasting its resources on a useless military. It is also ruled by a party that understands it needs to deliver for the common people if it is going to maintain its power. What the US is facing in China is a power that is already bigger than the US. That was never the case with the USSR.China has a 10 year plan for advancing their country and its people, while the US has a 10 year plan for the Marvel Universe.

But Chinese people's salary is really low comparing their hard work. As a Chinese young people, I feel disappointed about my future. I am not from the family, which has relative works in the government or state owned company. It is really hard for me to get a job that flow the labour law. I mean just a job that you don't need to work more than 10 hours a day and six days a week.Well, I have send my CV for more than 100 companies and communicate with 20 HR managers this month.But guess what, I still can not get an interview. Meanwhile in the US, just existing anywhere outside my home would cost a good $50-60 bucks a day minimum. It’s just not worth it at all to travel here. Just 20-40 years ago, China was polluted, corrupt, had problems with petty crimes, people behaving poorly(you have to understand one thing, there are two China's, old and new. Many of the people alive 20-40 years ago, are still alive today. So, their behavior and everything is still kind of there. As the old saying goes, old habits die hard. The newer younger generation is growing up in a much different China. Richer, more civilized. So, the young people behave much better than their fathers and mothers). They have improved so much since, and they are not done improving. One of the main reasons as you mentioned, why China was poor for such a long time, is because they did not get to go through an industrial revolution like other countries such as the US, the UK, etc, they were occupied(Century of Humiliation). It started with the opium wars, and ended with WW2. After this China said enough is enough, we will never allow this to happen again. Mao wanted to leap frog and catch up with the rest of the world, well, that didn't work out so well, you know what happened. The only way to improve was to take small steps, and eventually catch up. Is why China was still poor even in the 80s, the 90s, 2000s, and finally they started getting richer. China is not done, though. They are still improving with each passing years. I can't imagine another decade or two from now. China still has much to improve.
You have one of the most non-bias takes that I have heard, from presumably a western-origin person. I'm also Western, but... really really Western... The Aleutian Islands of Alaska Western as you can get- literally the most furthest Western portion of the United States. And as an Aleut, I can't even really consider myself to be an American despite Alaska gaining statehood. My parents and my grandparents were born as Russian-Natives in Russian-Alaska. I try my best to engage in critical thinking, ask questions, and have independent thought guarded from outside influence. I agree with what you said about China. They are not done yet. But let's not forget, China does not WANT to be enemies with the United States. China would love the opportunity to do business and become even Allies with the USA, given the right conditions/terms.
The "old China" you are referring to is only a small part over its 5,000 year history. China was way civilized compared to the Caucasians, whom the Chinese thought were barbarians.
This is a great summary. A lot of people don't know the history of China and how many invasions from other countries it had endured in the last several centuries. Despite this (or maybe because of this?) people are still hard working and trying to improve their lives. A lot of generational trauma from wars and revolutions will undoubtedly make people want to create a better future for themselves and their families. But speaking from my own POV, I don't want China to change too much and become a 1st world country. I've noticed that the more developed a country becomes, the less happy people become (because society becomes more divided by socioeconomic class, the irony!). There's not only upsides to development, there's a lot of downsides too. China is currently in a "sweet spot" right now, where its society doesn't have to deal too much with the downsides of living in a 1st world society-- the class division, the judgment, the shallowness, materialism, capitalism, "keeping up with the Joneses/ Kardashians," etc. Also, if a country becomes more developed, its living standards would improve and jobs would pay more, which would attract more immigrants. Racial diversity is good, but it also gives birth to racial division (which is bad). Look at what's happening in America/ Canada/ UK (and some other European nations) at the moment, with all of the mass migration/ illegal immigration-- what is going on over there?? Even Japan and South Korea are suffering the same fate. (North Korea seems to be fine though lol) Personally? I don't really care about reputation (or politics, for that matter). I care more about happiness. Even if China's reputation is negative (and it's considered an economic threat/ political enemy), at least ordinary people are comfortable and happy enough. As the country develops more and society becomes more divided (by class or by race or both), that could change for the worse. TLDR; I do not envy people living in 1st world countries, or pity people living in 3rd world countries. Being a 2nd world country is good enough. But I had a dellusional image of XinJiang CN cuz of the news and the false info I got, it changed in the 1st week since I arrived in XinJiang, total culture shock to me. I think he has a good point about China. China does not care about the outside world for a majority of her history because they can produce anything they want. Only after China fell behind after the industrial revolution, she become interested to look at the outside world, especially after China experienced the one hundred years of humiliation. China has been learning from the west ever since she was defeated by Britain in 1842. It is a long and pain process for this country to stand up and transform herself into a industrial society. Since you are in East Asia for quite a while, I reckoned you know the bulk of Jaoanese and Korean culture came from China? Eg. Japanese kanji and Korean hanja are essentially Chinese characters/words and that about 60% of modern Japanese and Korean vocabulary were borrowed from China. In fact, matcha, gyoza, ramen etc. had their origins in China.

Two comments: in China, Ordos is famous for cashmere; China made massive environmental friendly projects over the years, much larger than the train stations.
True, Chinese usually don't care about the environment (as in talk about it constantly and bragging about how environment-friendly they are). But those Chinese people who work in the environmental industries are real heros who work so hard to bring hopes to this world, so that "save the earth" is no longer just a cool slogan.

These train stations are nothing special. What is truly amazing about Ordos and northern Shaanxi is the environmental protection project. They have spent half a century turning a desert almost half the size of Belgium into a forest. It would be a pity if you didn't go and see it.
yes, Ordos is actually a smart city. you also mentioned in your video, there are lots of driverless buses, driverless cars on the street and robots at the square to do the clean job and sell food. BTW, China GOV really care about the environment, China is leading the green energy in the world. there are two deserts called "Mawusou" and "Kubuqi" near Ordos, now China spent 40 years to change these two deserts to Oasis already.

However, I can still see that there is a lot of misinformation you’re holding onto. For example, around the 9:21, you mentioned that China doesn’t care about the environment and doesn’t disclose COVID-19 numbers. Both of these claims are completely false. First, regarding the environment, it’s true that any country will inevitably have a negative impact on its local environment during development. This is part of industrialization. Only developed and wealthy nations can afford the extra costs of stricter environmental regulations; otherwise, there would be stagnation in development. During rapid industrialization, no country has been able to avoid this-not the U.S., not Europe, and not even Japan, which is often perceived as being exceptionally clean. Try supplying the entire world with goods while producing absolutely no pollution in the process. At least China is rapidly turning things around now that it has reached a certain level of wealth. For instance, China leads the world in reforestation efforts, which you can see for yourself all across the country. Renewable energy projects have been planned, implemented, and utilized more effectively than in many other countries that make grand promises but fail to follow through. China, on the other hand, keeps its word and moves forward with determination. Second, regarding COVID-19 numbers, it’s possible that the news outlets you follow didn’t report them, but anyone who can read Chinese can confirm that there were many websites providing detailed updates on case numbers, down to the district or county level. This was happening at least two to three months before the U.S. began to panic about COVID-19 or even took it seriously. I’m not sure why this was the case-perhaps it was due to a sense of superiority at the beginning, or simply an "everyone for themselves" mentality. In my opinion, this attitude was the real reason why the suffering was prolonged and more devastating than it needed to be. That being said, I'm glad to hear you're enjoying your trip to China. It’s a metro station built in a deserted area in another city in China, surrounded by overgrown grass and no other buildings in sight; however, after a couple of years, that area had completely changed, a lively place with apartment buildings, office buildings, and shopping centers.

So much that people in rural areas got banned from using coal to heat their rooms in winter. And lack of electricity some time during urges, because restrictions on coal. Being in inner mongolia means, you are in an autonomous region that is less developed, resource driven economy. China actually is very green for how much it produces now, previously it was scaling out of control and its great progress that has been made for everyones benefit (since manufacturing center of the world and all), the improvements are noticeable especially compared to each year prior. And so really its not a oil country, but rather have the natural resources and so to met the demand it should be used until they have built the remaining infrastructure to handle the total demand due to development etc. This is also a way for inner mongolia to improve its productivity and improve its economy, so really its hitting short term demands and long term carbon neutral. Its just too impractical to expect everything to all happen at onces, (they tried it, and it failed) Next thing, depending on the region the experience is drastically different, people do infact speak some levels of english in the big cities (tier 1 and even maybe tier 2) but thats just like in japan (tokyo and osaka, and then less so in kyoto and further regions (tohoku, hokkaido) ) the english level is in the same way reduced due to where you are rather than that the "whole of china" doesnt care about the western world. Its just the perspective is to learn from the good and not the bad... And an original take, the ghost cities aren't abandoned they are just way ahead, and such if there is an excess that is also good, it keeps housing affordable, and makes those regions attractive to those who arent able to compete in the tier 1 cities, it allows a return flow of people, the only reason china is often crowded is because of urbanisation but also being concentrated where wealth is and that is all in tier 1 cities. I would like to see a china where the tier 1 cities have their importance but the other cities flourish once again as they used to. TLDR: -Supply and demand -Autonomous region wanting to make some money -English is forsaken, just poorer place and people would go to the big cities for better life opportunities -Having more housing is good, ghost cities arent like japans which is the difference of oversupply and abandonment. -EDIT: also china is moving closer to realising the net carbon neutral than most would like to admit, see beijing comparisions

That's how I feel, I used to study in Houston and lived there for 4 years for my college, and I came to Mainland China, I am from Taiwan, I always have this feelings all the time that Chinese and American are really similar. China was the first country in the world to achieve "zero growth" in land degradation, and "double reduction" in the area of desertified land and sandy land. Since the 21st century, about 1/4 of the world's new green area (like trees and grass) has come from China. And China's clean energy innovation, development and implementation are world-leading. In addition, the reason why China's train stations are built so large is to consider passenger flow. If you come to China's train stations during important holidays (especially the Spring Festival, China's biggest holiday), you will know why they are built so large :)

As a chinese from inner Mongolia, I am very glad you eventually went to China. I started watching your video since 2 years ago with my non-Chinese partner. I have to say China is not prefect and maybe still not as developed as USA we still have poverty problems in some area. But it is no doubt Chinese ppl are friendly welcoming and helpful to any ppl. West media don’t make fair comments to China. We are similar with any other countries just using different language and culture.

It might once be derogatory, but these day the young chinese really use it to describe someone who is being unseriously mean but their saying is actually legit. We also use it when someone's roasts about something really get to the sore spots like when the cricitism is bang on. So it's actually the connotation and nuances of words that makes those who get it bond over an understanding smile.

If you travel to Shan Xi and xin Jiang provinces and learn about how China plants all the trees there for decades to reduce the area of desert and sand storm, you’ll also change your mind about “China doesn’t care about environment”, also I don’t think Chinese government “coerced” people to move to ordos but 100% use huge incentives and influence to move people there.

I've been going to China for 10 years since ive been living in Hong Kong, and I always have a good time when I go. Chinese people in China are typically great, but when they travel, they can be pretty rowdy and and really turn up their Chineseness when they travel in tour groups, and that tends to piss people off. Especially in Japan.
Chinese people are more or less the same, been to Wuhan, Changsha, Beijing, Taizhou, always friendly, helping, not a single word of English, saying "yes yes" all the time 🤣. Until you go there, you can't judge them, I too had an image in my head and it was a complete 180. Media sucks these days.

China is a fascinating place that moves quickly building modern cities and infrastructure. Safe and mostly clean but not like Japan. Good food and lodging at good prices. Nice people who work hard. Air quality can be iffy... I have been 3 times and will return. Shanghai is a city that never sleeps.
Its early days in your discovery, spend some time inland, Chongqing, Chengdu in Sichuan province, whole different vibe. Then come back and then do the South, the tropics of Yunan province and Guizhou. Thats how i found China to be best discovered if you dont live there. Go to a region spend the time, leave, visit again, one region at a time.

Also in convenience stores they don’t turn on the fridge for their bottled drinks so buying a coke is room temp which is less than ideal. The Chinese just don’t drink extremely cold beverages. Chinese aren’t judgemental compared to Korea or Japan.
TBH, northern cities in China are generally seen as less developed and not as wealthy. You should check out some southern cities-they might surprise you in a good way.

It is not that China does not pay attention to environmental protection, that is an inevitable choice for economic development. 30 years ago, China was a poor country that had no ability to use clean energy and could only mine. If the country chose not to develop minerals and natural resources, then economic development would inevitably be affected. Western countries pay attention to the environment because they have gone through the stage of economic development and environmental pollution. The economy is already very developed and has sufficient ability to deal with environmental problems. China is now developing clean energy to deal with the legacy problems brought about by the previous high-speed economic development. And Ordos is only one of the few resource-rich cities in China.
It's complicated. Both of them have their edge. But I will give it to China cause it's much bigger than Japan. It's not easy to manage such a vast country with a population of 1.4 billion people living on that land; no one has reached the level of modern China in human history.
You should open the world map and take a look. Japan's area is only equivalent to one province of China, and China has all the terrain in the world except for fjords!
I'm from Texas and have had a negative outlook on China my whole life. Not out of reasoning or logic, just the general anti-China culture propagated by the media here. I have to say though, after watching your videos I'm very disappointed in myself for having such an ignorant and uneducated perspective. The world as a whole is too large, diverse, and unique to have an opinion formed from just watching the news; of which is mostly just manufactured BS. Now I think I'd like to travel to China one day, and at the very least educate myself more. Gotta go to Japan first though 😄

Additionally, public opinion and polls change very quickly, often completely transforming within a few decades.

For those still sceptical about China, I don't want to convince you through words, but please pay a visit. We will welcome you as a guest. There is a 144-hour VISA policy. A lot of RUclipsrs already visited China from Japan, Korea, UK and even US. You can travel to Xinjiang freely and even Tibet (I think you need a local guide in Tibet though). My words are pale so let the fact speak.
China is not perfect, I wouldn't say China is the top-rated nation in the world. But it is worth a visit. I mean, come on, even the Japanese are visiting China, considering WW2 history we have. Why do you Western guys worry so much? It is not expensive.

I follow what is happening in China quite closely. Quite frankly, the US (and the collective West) just can't compete with China. China has effective government and a clear, organized vision of where it is going. It has the best infrastructure in the world. It is the number one investor and user of renewable energy and is leading a revolution in that area. Its EVs will wipe out the legacy auto sector in the world in just a few years. It is leading in most of the cutting edge technologies. You should note that China has built its high speed rail network only since 2008. It has put down 47,000 km of track since then and has plans for another 30,000 km -right now, it has about 75% of the world HSR. China is the biggest economy in the world (by PPP) and it has the resources to do these things. It is not wasting its resources on a useless military. It is also ruled by a party that understands it needs to deliver for the common people if it is going to maintain its power. What the US is facing in China is a power that is already bigger than the US. That was never the case with the USSR.China has a 10 year plan for advancing their country and its people, while the US has a 10 year plan for the Marvel Universe.

Meanwhile in the US, just existing anywhere outside my home would cost a good $50-60 bucks a day minimum. It’s just not worth it at all to travel here. Just 20-40 years ago, China was polluted, corrupt, had problems with petty crimes, people behaving poorly(you have to understand one thing, there are two China's, old and new. Many of the people alive 20-40 years ago, are still alive today. So, their behavior and everything is still kind of there. As the old saying goes, old habits die hard. The newer younger generation is growing up in a much different China. Richer, more civilized. So, the young people behave much better than their fathers and mothers). They have improved so much since, and they are not done improving. One of the main reasons as you mentioned, why China was poor for such a long time, is because they did not get to go through an industrial revolution like other countries such as the US, the UK, etc, they were occupied(Century of Humiliation). It started with the opium wars, and ended with WW2. After this China said enough is enough, we will never allow this to happen again. Mao wanted to leap frog and catch up with the rest of the world, well, that didn't work out so well, you know what happened. The only way to improve was to take small steps, and eventually catch up. Is why China was still poor even in the 80s, the 90s, 2000s, and finally they started getting richer. China is not done, though. They are still improving with each passing years. I can't imagine another decade or two from now. China still has much to improve.

The "old China" you are referring to is only a small part over its 5,000 year history. China was way civilized compared to the Caucasians, whom the Chinese thought were barbarians.

This is a great summary. A lot of people don't know the history of China and how many invasions from other countries it had endured in the last several centuries. Despite this (or maybe because of this?) people are still hard working and trying to improve their lives. A lot of generational trauma from wars and revolutions will undoubtedly make people want to create a better future for themselves and their families.
But speaking from my own POV, I don't want China to change too much and become a 1st world country. I've noticed that the more developed a country becomes, the less happy people become (because society becomes more divided by socioeconomic class, the irony!). There's not only upsides to development, there's a lot of downsides too. China is currently in a "sweet spot" right now, where its society doesn't have to deal too much with the downsides of living in a 1st world society-- the class division, the judgment, the shallowness, materialism, capitalism, "keeping up with the Joneses/ Kardashians," etc.
Also, if a country becomes more developed, its living standards would improve and jobs would pay more, which would attract more immigrants. Racial diversity is good, but it also gives birth to racial division (which is bad). Look at what's happening in America/ Canada/ UK (and some other European nations) at the moment, with all of the mass migration/ illegal immigration-- what is going on over there?? Even Japan and South Korea are suffering the same fate. (North Korea seems to be fine though lol)
Personally? I don't really care about reputation (or politics, for that matter). I care more about happiness. Even if China's reputation is negative (and it's considered an economic threat/ political enemy), at least ordinary people are comfortable and happy enough. As the country develops more and society becomes more divided (by class or by race or both), that could change for the worse.
TLDR; I do not envy people living in 1st world countries, or pity people living in 3rd world countries. Being a 2nd world country is good enough. (I've lived in multiple countries, including America, Japan, and China. These are just my thoughts/ observations. Definitely not trying to offend anyone.) WORLD PEACE Y'ALL

lol Funny thing, I saw a Canadian couple youtuber posted video of Xinjiang trip the week after I visited museum, they edited the video so well that you'd think the museum is about ccp propogada, lol they never mentioned the other 8 exhibition halls of religions, cultures including Persian culture, arts, historical relics. There are several beautiful souvenir stores at the exit, they showed a coin vending machine at a corner, thats very sad and funny. But I believe lies dont last long.

Only after China fell behind after the industrial revolution, she become interested to look at the outside world, especially after China experienced the one hundred years of humiliation. China has been learning from the west ever since she was defeated by Britain in 1842. It is a long and pain process for this country to stand up and transform herself into a industrial society. Since you are in East Asia for quite a while, I reckoned you know the bulk of Jaoanese and Korean culture came from China? Eg. Japanese kanji and Korean hanja are essentially Chinese characters/words and that about 60% of modern Japanese and Korean vocabulary were borrowed from China. In fact, matcha, gyoza, ramen etc. had their origins in China.

I’ve been living in the US for 22 years and went back to China every year. Even though, I had to adjust my perception of China to match the reality every time. Nice podcast. Two comments: in China, Ordos is famous for cashmere; China made massive environmental friendly projects over the years, much larger than the train stations.

These train stations are nothing special. What is truly amazing about Ordos and northern Shaanxi is the environmental protection project. They have spent half a century turning a desert almost half the size of Belgium into a forest. It would be a pity if you didn't go and see it.
yes, Ordos is actually a smart city. you also mentioned in your video, there are lots of driverless buses, driverless cars on the street and robots at the square to do the clean job and sell food.
BTW, China GOV really care about the environment, China is leading the green energy in the world. there are two deserts called "Mawusou" and "Kubuqi" near Ordos, now China spent 40 years to change these two deserts to Oasis already.

However, I can still see that there is a lot of misinformation you’re holding onto. For example, around the 9:21, you mentioned that China doesn’t care about the environment and doesn’t disclose COVID-19 numbers. Both of these claims are completely false.
First, regarding the environment, it’s true that any country will inevitably have a negative impact on its local environment during development. This is part of industrialization. Only developed and wealthy nations can afford the extra costs of stricter environmental regulations; otherwise, there would be stagnation in development. During rapid industrialization, no country has been able to avoid this-not the U.S., not Europe, and not even Japan, which is often perceived as being exceptionally clean. Try supplying the entire world with goods while producing absolutely no pollution in the process. At least China is rapidly turning things around now that it has reached a certain level of wealth. For instance, China leads the world in reforestation efforts, which you can see for yourself all across the country. Renewable energy projects have been planned, implemented, and utilized more effectively than in many other countries that make grand promises but fail to follow through. China, on the other hand, keeps its word and moves forward with determination.
Second, regarding COVID-19 numbers, it’s possible that the news outlets you follow didn’t report them, but anyone who can read Chinese can confirm that there were many websites providing detailed updates on case numbers, down to the district or county level. This was happening at least two to three months before the U.S. began to panic about COVID-19 or even took it seriously. I’m not sure why this was the case-perhaps it was due to a sense of superiority at the beginning, or simply an "everyone for themselves" mentality. In my opinion, this attitude was the real reason why the suffering was prolonged and more devastating than it needed to be.
That being said, I'm glad to hear you're enjoying your trip to China. I just wanted to share my thoughts on these two things.

Being in inner mongolia means, you are in an autonomous region that is less developed, resource driven economy.
China actually is very green for how much it produces now, previously it was scaling out of control and its great progress that has been made for everyones benefit (since manufacturing center of the world and all), the improvements are noticeable especially compared to each year prior. And so really its not a oil country, but rather have the natural resources and so to met the demand it should be used until they have built the remaining infrastructure to handle the total demand due to development etc.
This is also a way for inner mongolia to improve its productivity and improve its economy, so really its hitting short term demands and long term carbon neutral. Its just too impractical to expect everything to all happen at onces, (they tried it, and it failed)
Next thing, depending on the region the experience is drastically different, people do infact speak some levels of english in the big cities (tier 1 and even maybe tier 2) but thats just like in japan (tokyo and osaka, and then less so in kyoto and further regions (tohoku, hokkaido) ) the english level is in the same way reduced due to where you are rather than that the "whole of china" doesnt care about the western world. Its just the perspective is to learn from the good and not the bad...
And an original take, the ghost cities aren't abandoned they are just way ahead, and such if there is an excess that is also good, it keeps housing affordable, and makes those regions attractive to those who arent able to compete in the tier 1 cities, it allows a return flow of people, the only reason china is often crowded is because of urbanisation but also being concentrated where wealth is and that is all in tier 1 cities. I would like to see a china where the tier 1 cities have their importance but the other cities flourish once again as they used to.
TLDR:
-Supply and demand
-Autonomous region wanting to make some money
-English is forsaken, just poorer place and people would go to the big cities for better life opportunities
-Having more housing is good, ghost cities arent like japans which is the difference of oversupply and abandonment.
-EDIT: also china is moving closer to realising the net carbon neutral than most would like to admit, see beijing comparisions

It might once be derogatory, but these day the young chinese really use it to describe someone who is being unseriously mean but their saying is actually legit. We also use it when someone's roasts about something really get to the sore spots like when the cricitism is bang on. So it's actually the connotation and nuances of words that makes those who get it bond over an understanding smile.

I've been going to China for 10 years since ive been living in Hong Kong, and I always have a good time when I go. Chinese people in China are typically great, but when they travel, they can be pretty rowdy and and really turn up their Chineseness when they travel in tour groups, and that tends to piss people off. Especially in Japan.

China is a fascinating place that moves quickly building modern cities and infrastructure. Safe and mostly clean but not like Japan. Good food and lodging at good prices. Nice people who work hard. Air quality can be iffy... I have been 3 times and will return. Shanghai is a city that never sleeps.
Its early days in your discovery, spend some time inland, Chongqing, Chengdu in Sichuan province, whole different vibe. Then come back and then do the South, the tropics of Yunan province and Guizhou. Thats how i found China to be best discovered if you dont live there. Go to a region spend the time, leave, visit again, one region at a time.

Also in convenience stores they don’t turn on the fridge for their bottled drinks so buying a coke is room temp which is less than ideal. The Chinese just don’t drink extremely cold beverages. Chinese aren’t judgemental compared to Korea or Japan.

You should open the world map and take a look. Japan's area is only equivalent to one province of China, and China has all the terrain in the world except for fjords!
