So, you didn't ask, but I"m definitely one of the earlier subscribers, and here's why I've stuck around: - your genuine excitement at things - that it is not a kid-focused channel. They're obviously part of your life, but it's not the whole focus of all the videos. - food. Your cooking is not really what I cook, but the veggie-heavy and very achievable foods inspire me to do some healthy cooking. This is not like the food vloggers who tend to use tons of ingredients and superfoods that I'm not going to have, and make foods that take hours, which I'm not going to do. I want realistic foods that are healthy and delicious. - minimalism. Pantry, house, bathroom, travel. Thrifting. Decorating on a frugal budget. I could care less about production quality and lighting, I'd rather have the vlogs and food sharing and grocery hauls (Do you have a farm box there? Do you have a bulk store? Or is it all costco all the time?) and things that are unique and different about your area. Are the playgrounds cool and different in each park? Show me the fun ferns, the slugs, the mushrooms!
This! Agree completely. As a Kiwi I enjoyed your content because of the above. The move to NZ brought me to your channel but the genuineness is why I watch, it was kinda irrelevant to me that it was in NZ. I am enjoying hearing about your experiences in Vancouver for the same reasons, the perspective you bring is what makes good content.
Good to know. I hate shorts too but it’s hard when you see “easy success” that other people have with them. I have a theory it doesn’t translate well though so I’m not going to try and force it! Maybe I’ll post one every once in a while. But I’m definitely keeping my once a week video 🥰
Your videos are always interesting, showing us what the country is like from the roadside, on your walks, ailses in Supermarkets, at picnics, concerts, parks and equipment, farmers markets, new trends, zoos, attractions, food fads. You're doing great.

I imagine running a daycare would drain every drop from my soul 😂 when little people are involved I pour a lot of my energy and and love and time into them so I have a hard time imagining more of them! I do think about it from time to time.

Becca, I think it’s a few of us also feeling lost and not knowing who we are and what we should do. When I think of your channel I think of a normal person going through the difficulties of modern life. I feel identified with your channel, although I don’t have kids but my life is very similar to yours. I reckon maybe focus organic food, healthy living with two kids, home made, walks, visits to tourist places or not so touristy, I mean, basically what you’re doing is good and slowly you’ll start building a community who are interested in this sort of content. I wish you all the best!

Your consistency with posting is so great, I took a break and never got back into it again.. I post shorts but just from other short form videos I’ve made. When you rent are you allowed to paint or contact paper the decor. Your backdrop looks great. If you are conzsciece of your surroundings use a plant, flower arrangement, scarf, drape, curtain or poster as a backdrop.
You’re so right! And the contact paper is allowed - I already asked our landlord and she’s fine with it. But maybe I need to accept and work with it. We’ll see!

Going to be honest here I don't like shorts on youtube, I sit down with a cuppa, settle in and what I thought was going to be at least 15mins is two mina, very annoying, if I want that I'd go to ticktock. I have actually stopped watching some people sadly because of this. In saying this they have just as much right to do them as I have to not watch them, it is personal preferences. My other pet peeve, is lately you tube is pushing them to premier before putting out a video, what a pointless waste of time.
I have such a hard time with the shorts because I see many people having so much “success,” but I also don’t see a good conversion. It’s exactly what you’re saying - most people prefer long form content. So these people that post a ton of shorts get a bunch of followers and then they post a long video and they don’t get any views because that’s not the subscriber base they’ve built up. I don’t know - it gets tricky lol. And I totally agree about the premier thing! It never made sense to me 😂 Thanks for your honesty! I’m trying to figure all this out and opinions help me 🧡

I used to watch you for some insight on how American's viewed New Zealand but now I watch because I'm interested to see how a former "honorary Kiwi" handles life in Canada 🙂 To be honest, RUclips is pretty broken from the perspective of small creators these days. It *is* pushing shorts over long-form content and seems to want to be the new Tiktok, rather than remaining focused on what made it the success it is -- longform content created by regular people with cameras. It's a huge shame but I think we've reached "peak RUclips" and I full expect a gradual exodus by many smaller creators to other platforms that still value their work -- even if they're not able to pay the rates that YT does through its partnership program. The other worrying element of YT is that it seems to be very heavily "shaping" people's view of the world. If you publish anything that isn't aligned with RUclips's own ideologies or opinions then your videos get shadow-banned or sometimes even just removed with community strikes handed out. This happened to me during the pandemic when I was silly enough to say that even though I was vaxed and double-boosted, everyone should have the right to choose whether they were vaxed. To make it absolutely clear, I've never been anti-vax, simply pro-choice. Apparently this was "medical misinformation" so the video was removed and a strike given. That was a sobering wake-up call to the fact that this isn't really a platform for free speech any longer. I really enjoy the content you create and watching the kids slowly growing up. It's like having a second family and reliving my own days as a parent. Keep up the good work!
RUclips is absolutely my favorite out of the platforms - it really feels like it builds a community of close friends. It makes me so sad they’re pushing shorts so much. Unfortunately short form content is addictive and it gets lots of people watching for lots of hours so of course they’re going to encourage and push. I hate it. Contact paper is good… but not the cheap ones. I would go for a premium product for peace of mind. Even if it’s a rental, a better quality contact paper is better.
Regarding the counter top, just make sure that whatever you put on is removable (ie, doesn't leave a sticky mess). I see Amazon sell stuff specifically so it might be worth a go but seriously your kitchen looks fine. Clara is growing so fast! I agree it's important for William to mix with other kids his age. I'm glad that Billy is enjoying his new job :)
