I was also skeptical about this GoW, but I was surprised how well it was done and hell it did something that I liked more than any other game (even The Last of Us), making a father son relationship feel real not just a father teaching a son how to kill but to better that he ever was. Atreus went from a shrimp boy to an arrogant God just to understand that arrogance leads to downfall. Kratos went from someone as cold as Helheim to someone who can take a minute to enjoy things. It's an awesome game that doesn't sacrifice anything to make it better.
I guess i missed the part where they made us care about atreus or Kratos. I remember him saying "boy" about a million times, but actual character development? Not so much.

The fact that Kratos, the coldest killer in the series, went to save his son, miss his wife, share moments with other, hell even cracking smiles once in a while made him develop a lot. So if you didn't saw any of that in the game then yeah you did miss the point by a long mile
This is a good summary. I have thoroughly enjoyed playing this game a lot more than I imagined and see myself coming back to get 100% completion. I also found out that I'm a fan of norse mythology and love how the game designers stuck to the story.

Apologies in advance for the lengthy comment. GOW played an interesting role in my life so I thought I'd share. I love talking about games with friends and people on reddit who share my love for the medium and the tech behind it but this one is a little more personal. I've played video games pretty much my entire life. I got my first console when I was 7 which was the brand new original xbox. I also built a high end (at the time) gaming pc when I was 12. I loved it but only played story based shooters like halo, half life, gta, fear, max payne and so on. As I got older my focus on video games as a hobby slowly deteriorated. I might play the occasional COD match or gta online with my roommates but that's it. Late high school and college was about partying, making music, and my first taste of independence. At this point the only console I ever owned were the xbox consoles and last gen xbox was a joke in terms of what games were available.Then one day (it was late 2019 and I was in my mid twebties) out of no where I asked if I could play my roommates ps4 and if he could recommend a game. Naturally he picked the last of us and my mind was blown. I haven't played a story rich game like that since the 360/ps3 era and never with that quality of writing. I moved to a different city the following week and only got to the university section in the game. I was so invested in that game at that point I went out and bought a ps4 pro just so I can see that story to completion. Following that I bought GOW after hearing good things from my co worker. Less than a month prior I had no experience with playstation and haven't played a game properly in 7 years so and they've only been shooters. I always thought melee combat and fantasy games were really silly with boring gameplay having never touched one. I was so bad at both games and was more concerned about the fact I was struggling on normal, the story didn't have my full attention during that playthrough. Even without my full attention I still loved the game but had no frame of reference. Now less than one week from Ragnarok, gaming is such an important part of my life and I have a completely different perspective on them.I pay attention to every little detail and get lost in these worlds these teams have painstakingly created. You don't get games like GOW without people that love and obsess over what they do. Games of this quality are rare though and some of my other favorite types of games really challenging game like returnal, the souls games, ghostrunner, doom enternal on ultra nightmare difficulty and so on. Basically any game with great art direction and deep gameplay mechanics and fast/fluid feel. With this perspective GOW has done something VERY rare. Santa Monica got every part of the game nailed perfectly. The story, voice acting, music, visual design at high fidelity as well as the gameplay. I play a lot more melee than I do shooters nowadays and this is easily my favorite melee combat in any game. It's challenging at higher difficulties and it feels so chunky and satisfying with a great cadence to every attack and such a visual spectacle to match. This level of quality can only be achieved with hard work, over a decade of experience and the financial resources to back it. I can't believe the hate this game has received or spoiling the stories in the comments. Those people have to be so miserable to know they're ruining a very special experience for someone and still do it to make themselves feel better. If I hadn't randomly played the last of us with someone else's ps4 followed by GOW, I would have never known what kind of experiences could be achieved with games made by passionate people for all of us to enjoy. I honestly got a little teary eyed during the Ragnarok story trailer It seems like they've improved every part of what makes the last one so good without deviating from the familiarity and polish of the last one

Gamers are so fkn weird man I've been reading tons of god of war hate comments lately as we get closer to the release date. It almost feels like there's some organized effort to slander the game as much as possible before ragnarok comes out.
I think it was because of how critically loved the original was. Anything something is considered an all time great, people feel the need to spew hate when they don’t like it. I guess because it makes them feel better about their opinion and that its the only correct one which is weird. People just need to realize it’s ok to be in the minority and not like a popular thing without crapping on it every chance they get.
@@solidvick yep most of the hate is about it being overhyped but I'm confident anyone who beat the game would change their opinion. I have had similar negative opinion about elden ring but I at least beat the game before saying anything

Man if you cant appreciate talking to head while rowing the boat and hearing his stories about the gods its too bad. Its the total package of story and combat. The younger guy in me misses the titties from the older games but i got over it. Im 45 now though lol.

After really enjoying the other 6 games I was really excited to play this one preordered and started playing the day of release in 2018. Man I was disappointed restarted the game 3 times and just couldn’t get into it. Traded it in not long after then they made free with ps5 instant game collection so I gave it another go and just still couldn’t get into it I struggled and about a month later finally finished and can honestly say I still hate this game so much so that I now don’t even like the originals thanks gow 2018 you made me hate the entire franchise 😂. But being a glutton for punishment I do like the look of ragnarok but I don’t think I can trust this franchise anymore so I will wait for ps plus.
