Sir why use ports numbers

Every application/service runs on a specific port, to access these applications, the ports need to be open.

Example: in older tvs-dvds you use audio port to connect from tv to dvd for audio to work
Similarly you open ports from source to destination for it to work
Ex. Icmp port from source to destination
So you can ping
