  • Route 66 OLD CHAIN OF ROCKS BRIDGE, Illinois & Missouri - narrative walk over our 1929 bridge
Built in 1929, this bridge served as the bypass from Madison County (IL) to Saint Louis from 1935 to 1965. It was too expensive to tear it down, so now it is listed as a National Register of Historic Places. Here is a look at the bridge, how to get to it, walking across, some fun facts, our castle-like water intakes and more fun stuff. Please enjoy.
Route 66 heads through Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Texas and California. There are a ton of ghost towns, abandoned roads, old motels, hotels, train stations, diners, restaurants, historic buildings, museums and many official attractions.
I spent 6 months along the old Mother Road and captured a lot of Here & Now video stories and narrations for my viewers. I hope you will enjoy my videos as much as I enjoyed the trip. And, much more to come.

The bridge was also used at the 69th street bridge in John Carpenter’s Escape From New York (1981) for the scene where Issac Hayes (Duke of NY) was chasing Kurt Russell ( Snake Plissken) and Donald Pleasance ( The President). One of the greatest action/ Scifi movies of all time was filmed in St. Louis !
