I have no problem with sponsors, but in my opinion it needs to be something you personally have tested, used, and can trust. We watch you cause we trust your opinions. As such we trust that what you sponsor has been properly vetted.

If you back a product, your viewership will automatically associate the product or service you are promoting with your character. If the product is junk, we will feel betrayed bc your strength of character and your honesty are some of the qualities we love most about you (along with your empathy and compassion for others). If you back a product, make sure you use it and are honest about it. As long as those two things are consistent, your fan base is only going to grow. ❤ you're an inspiration, Mister James.

I personally hate most sponsor sections, so I really love when creators put a little timer or time stamp saying "here is where sponsored content ends." It's a little nod to the fact that viewers don't really appreciate more ads than we already have thrown at us.
That said, as long as you would truly recommend a product and it isn't just to get a wad of cash for some product you know nothing about, go for it and make those deals. I understand content creators wanting to make a little extra scratch.

I agree with @Compliance0, time stamps are nice. I usually listen to your content without watching, so it doesn't affect me as much. I do fast forward through the adverts if I can grab my phone quickly enough, but I've learned to zone out on anything different from the original storyline.
I also agree that your belief or confidence in whatever product you're endorsing is nice. However, I also understand that famous people endorsing a product doesn't necessarily mean they use or believe in said product. It can be just a paycheck for them.
You do you. It won't affect my enjoyment of your content. I trust you to be as honest with us, the faceless audience, as you are with your employees.

I grew up in the 80s. It was expected that there would be commercials in the shows we watched. "Here is a word from our sponsors" is not a crime and it allows for the creator to publish more content. Everyone talks about how we need to support our favourite authors or artists or webcomics, and this is just another way for us to show our support. I do agree with many of the people who mention that it should be something that you, yourself, are willing to attach your name to and stake your reputation on.

Overall, though, I don't mind creators getting a piece of the action, but there are quite a few famous advertised products that dip into the shady end of things, and sometimes it's hard to tell until a lot of creators have already worked with them. As others are saying, I think most of us trust you to be selective, and then be truthful about the product to your best knowledge.

My favorite creators, who also do ad reads do two things I like:
    1) They only advertise products they like, use, or believe in from real life.
    2) they start the video with a quick "Today's sponsor is ___, more about them at the end of the video" then present their content and their ad read is near the end with "bonus content/outakes" after that. This lets me know up front, and I can skip or end the video there. Typically I am listening while driving, working, or at the gym, so I end up listening anyway (watch time for you) but if I'm totally not interested in your sponsor, I have control.

    Since you asked, here's my two cents on the sponsors/ads you're being offered;
I have seen amazing ads in sponsored segments from creators who were given the freedom to morph the ad into something that sounds genuinely their style.
When IDidAThing does an ad read, it's not *just* "Hey guys, I'm being sponsored, check this out", he starts with an amazing segue that makes it nearly unnoticable that I *started* watching an ad, and then he follows up with engaging scenarios where he has a problem and benefits from the sponsor's product. Throughout the whole thing, it's just as entertaining as the rest of his video, and I've never seen but maybe a few content creators meet that level of creative engagement in their ads.
If you can fit them into your style, make it sound *incredibly* natural to talk about this product, and maintain the same energy through the ad as the rest of your video, I think that will be your best case scenario.
As for anything less engaging, I have come to tolerate ad reads. If I am present at the controls when an uninspired ad read starts, I will skip it, but it doesn't turn me off from the rest of the video.
That said, I say do what you want! I like your content enough that I can tolerate a few ads.

You definitely deserve more money. Even though I don't personally know you, I feel like I can trust you. If you advertise a company you trust, I'd say bring on the sponsorships. Thank you for all the great videos. If everyone had a boss like you, we as a society would be so much better off.

Bc I know he owns the company and is doing well enough, but if you have watched any of his videos, the amount of stupidity this man puts up with in his daily life is reason enough to give this man a raise. It doesn't matter if he is making 1 million a year. I believe he'd put the money back into his business and in turn he'd help more people better there lives. That's why in my opinion, I believe he should make more money on RUclips with ads.
10 seconds to 30 seconds of our time, when we pay nothing to listen to his stories.

Personally, I give ads 5 seconds of time, then ‘Skip’ if I don’t feel they pertain to me. And you already know this, make the moves that you feel are appropriate in your own life. Best of luck!!

Support James doing it. He deserves it, and deserves to grow his business more. If he makes an extra $10k a month from this, it frees up his company to do a lot more to be a blessing to his employees.

Really cool that you asked your audience about taking sponsorships before going through with it. I've never seen another creator do that. I don't mind add reads, especially with the new jump ahead feature I just double tap once to skip 10 seconds then jump ahead to the end of the ad.

  • @slashjub

I personally don't mind sponsored ads. I trust you to choose the right ones. What separates the annoying ads from the fun interesting ones is whether you have to go off a generic script like "Raid Shadow Legends" 🤣 or you get to do it in your own style using your own words because those are the ones that people won't skip over because it will just be additional original content.

I don't mind if you do ad reads. You're creating content, providing me with entertainment. I'm willing to tolerate the interruption knowing that it's helping you. Whether or not I actually watch the ads depends very much on who the creator is, whether or not I think they actually look into the products they are partnered with and whether the ad seems relevant to me.

Sponsor adds can be annoying, but I have no issues with content creators doing it. It helps pay for the time and energy they put into the videos, and you all deserve that. It does help if you can implement the add into the video in a fun, creative way, instead of just reading off a script. Some RUclipsrs are getting pretty good at that. Also, as already mentioned, it helps if it’s a product you personally use and like. Adds authenticity to the add/promo.

I whole heartedly support you making money from sponsors. Especially if it's something you use or support and understand. I watch the whole ad for creators I like, even if it is a bit annoying; usually because it's repetitive or has nothing to do with my needs or interests. Also I am impressed by your story telling skill, (un)common sense, work ethic and that you still have the energy to go back to school plus learning Russian. My little brother is really smart and multi-talented, bilingual (English/Spanish), gourmet cook, musician, self-taught IT/programming, sales, teaching but has totally given up on Russian after two years. Going off on another tangent - your stories remind me of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum novels. I picture your brother as Ranger but I'm not sure who would be Stephanie but your brother would definitely be Ranger. Lol
