My wee granny, God rest her soul, lived in the tenement block at the bottom of Prospecthill Circus from 1987 to 2000, she moved to sheltered housing in 2000, she passed in 2014. I spent some of my happiest times at Prospecthill Circus as a kid. We had her 70th birthday party in the community centre across the back. She used to walk into Rutherglen every day to collect me from school when I started. Then we moved to Dalry when I was almost 6. We used to go to mass at St Brigid's chapel. I vividly remember when they built the Asda down at the other end of Toryglen. I also remember getting the Number 12 bus
So many similarities. Although I visited my gran late 70s/80s. The fondest of childhood memories going to visit her during the holidays. We went to St Brigids as well....and I remember going to Kings Park (I wasnt from the south side and haven't lived in Scotland for about 35 years) but my memories of there (the drying area for clothes and the shute for the rubbish and the little row of shops where she would buy me a treat are as clear as day)
This area of the circus has been redeveloped into garden style housing there was a great community spirit in the 1970s and and 1980s and some great people
There was. My gran lived at 99 Prospecthill Circus, on the 12th floor during the 70/80s.She shared the lobby with 2 other women who were her age and they became good friends. My fondest childhood memories was going there to stay during the holidays. Loved looking out at the lights over Glasgow at night. Got quite emotional looking at it being knocked down.
Moved there in 2006 the Sony Bravia flats were still there and covered in paint , I lived in the small flats near the myer path and tbh it wasnt that bad as kid
Jim Kerr actually lived on Queens Court (24 Crossbank Road) The block used for the Sony Bravia advert he lived on the 11th floor from being 8 years old and moved out when he was 22. Charlie Burchill lived in the maisonettes next to the flats.
My m8 and his missus stayed up those flats, until they were made move out, it was a choice between their flat and their dog they chose the dog😉👍🐶 Rip bruno the boxer.... 😢
I dont know to be honest. They did blow up the other two towers on the site. It may have been cheaper this way though these towers were closer to the maid Glasgow to London railway line so this may have played a part.
Possibly because it would have presented too great a hazard to surrounding buildings. They will have conducted all sorts of risk assessments and cost/risk/benefit assessments and this will have been seen as the best option.

From bad to worse, maybe 3rd redo will do it. Awesome fact about the Sony Bravia commercial, I remember it very well, thanks for the video!

From viewing the areas facebook page the community spirit is there and growing since the redevelopment.

I was a postman in Victoria Rd for 19 years, I delivered to the Circus back in the day, what a hell hole it was back then.
My Dad was a manager in the big south for a short time and talks about doing security patrol for the parcel van.
@@AstonishingGlasgow I started in there in 96 at 16 . He may have been before my time in there.
Crazy... Very cool. Great footage.
Me and my dad stayed in kennishead block 30 21st floor it was amazing I loved it then we moved down to block 70 13th floor
Jim Kerr from The Simple Minds was buttered and bred here
If you are a Simple Minds fan, I managed to grab this back in 2014 ruclips.net/video/LXCdYohE6JU/видео.html

Great footage of the demolish
I used to be the postman for a while there.
Some of the smells from some of the landings in the high rise buildings were horrific.
To this day I have never smelt anything like it again.
You may have known my dad. Was occasionally acting DOM at the big south.
Have you still got your Polo 9n?
Not any more. Replaced it with a Golf.
@@AstonishingGlasgow What was the problem or why did you get rid of it?
Polo was my wifes car and she fancied something a bit newer, that was all. Polo was sold with 12 months MOT and is now somebody's first car.
What's the tune on this video? The one in the first 2 mins,
Good question. I will need to look back into the project but it would have come from the You tube audio library.
@@AstonishingGlasgow cheers for responding. I look forward to any further development.
Thanks for the nudge, I had completely forgotten to look. The first track on the video is New Horizons by Futuremono.
@@AstonishingGlasgow Nice one BT. Appreciated
They should of kept the old circus
Your right the circus is full of white houses now
Toryglen got more Tory
why can't they just blow up
