I’ve always loved the look of white letter tires. I don’t understand why tire companies don’t make them in modern tire sizes. I never black out the white letters.
Just something I find funny nothing to do with the product or video. Tires used to come with white lettering and lines. Drivers used shoe polish and all kinds of things to color the lettering black to match the tires. Now that the whole industry went with black lettering that blends in with the tires there are vinyl lettering and products like this that now make the lettering on the tires white again. We always want what we don’t have.
its a trend...think fishermen hat in 2014, those jerselum 12s women wear now, beards, phones getting bigger rather than smaller, and well anything retro tbh.
That's incorrect. There have always been car people that PREFER white letter tires. Once those went away, it opened a market for those folks so that we could get that classic muscle car look again. If somebody would manufacturer white letter tires in modern tire sizes, I'd be totally down with buying a set...but they don't.
I see where Pirelli is actually bringing back the option to have the lettering colored. And they look damned good!! Thanks for the video, by the way...excellent job!
Haha , do it ! You'll never stop after the first 2-3 months because at that time you will see the first results 😆 split your muscle groups in 5 days a week Monday to Friday by example , Good luck 🤙
Just a tip, I work with firestone roofing and naptha gas/camp fuel is a better product to clean the tire rubber with than acetone. Other than that great work and it looks good
Ive been using these for years. I actually made a stencil of my toyotires lettering and just Plasti spray them on. I go through 5 pairs of tires per year just on my Mazda so saying it's helpful is an understatement.
I don't understand why tire manufactures stopped making white letter tires as an option. Back in the day you were not cool unless you had white lettered tires on your hotrod. I do realize white lettered tires are not for every car/truck but they do look great on certain vehicles. It's matter of preference.
seropserop Agree, but the hankook text is flush w the tire sidewall, there is no border and it’s not raised up at all. Definitely a more difficult process. On these particular tires, what we did in the video was the best option for this first time user experience.
Man, you can color any part of The tire you want. Don’t have to follow what everyone else does. Be unique and different and express yourself in your style.
To get a fine point, you can take the tip outof these paint markers and flip them to the other end for a fine point. Most of these type of markers have that feature.
On my paint pen lid, there is a little pot you can take off to use to prime and fill with a little paint from the pen, to then dip the nib into from time to time, very easy not to notice it though. I've not used mine yet, just watching to see how easy it is to apply.
Well, I actually did 3 sets of tires (so 12 tires) with a single pen. The way I do it is to press the tip until the ink starts actually dripping out and with that I can just tap the latters so the ink can just distribute on its own - needs a bit of practise, but it's much faster and, gives better coverage and a smoother surface. Did use different pens (regular tire marking pens) .. sorry to say, but yours are really overprized - not sure if they are any different, but from the video the result looks exactly like mine when I first "painted" it with stroking. No offense.
Yes, I ordered the Dykem Brite-Mark medium tip. Used one pen for one set of tires and there's still some paint in there! Worked perfectly. Only $7. He way overprices them because he knows if he puts the word tire in there, others will think it's meant specifically for that went in fact it is not.
this video helped a ton. especially helped me understand needing multiple layers. I finished my first layer and was like "oh God" but that makes sense now
I love white lettering on tires. Had my bf Goodrich ats w white letters and they looked sick when clean, and it really changes the look of the whole vehicle. All black makes them look like every other tire
I have noticed that cars look better when their tires are full of snow or dust. I think it is because the lighter colour of the tire makes the wheels look larger and better proportioned. I would definitely buy grey/white tires for my car instead of going for way too large rims that ruin the ride comfort.
I know this is from last year but it just popped up. These pens have been around for 20 years nothing new. Go to your local welding shop they will have all of the colors sitting on the shelf. When I drove Semi we did that on the truck tires all of the time to go along with the polished aluminum rims.
I used similar paint pens for raised letters on my windscreen washer fluid and coolant reservoir caps - he's right, it's much easier on raised letters - they came out looking great with only 2 coats.
Here is a tip. Don’t do what I did!!! Paint your tires AFTER they are mounted and inflated. I did mine before they were mounted and after they were mounted and inflated there were a ton of small cracks due to the tire expanding when inflated, I didn’t think about that when I painted them. I had to go over them 2 more times to fill in all the cracks…..live and learn!!!! (they still look super cool though!!!!)
True. I spent a couple hours yesterday doing my Jeep tires with red paint. So much easier when the tires are off, my letters are raised and that helps too. I just can't find the type that bonds to rubber. Clearcoat will hopefully make them keep from fading sooner.
Does it last. I was wondering if it would fade real quick on a daily driver in all weathers. Would it help to spray with some kind of clear coat after?
Of course it's a Subaru. I'm thinking about picking this up to recolor the "M/T" on my Mickey Thompson slicks. The factory paint always turns brown after a while from the rubber's oils seeping through. I cleaned off the old stuff and was considering leaving them black but that's just not right.
No. These pens paint is not the best and the white starts turning brown weeks after application from just brake dust. Ive taken it off and applied it again with 5 coats and used tire shine and 4 days later the paint started turning a chocolate brown color. Id suggests just getting tire lettering that you install over your tire with glue. I know its a little more expensive but if you want the color to last for the life of the tires id spend the extra money.
What about tire dehydration/aging of the sidewall using acetone? What would a tire friendly cleaner be.? One remembers the selling point of tire cleaners that do not dry the tire, like armorial long term harm?
