Elvis didn't see color, this song was for all. He grew up poor, and he never forgot where he came from. Elvis was a humble man with a heart of gold. Beautiful GOD given talent. I love Elvis, he never fails to make you FEEL his soulful music.

This is one of his best. Yes, certainly powerful and very moving. In a similar vein is the song "If I Can Dream". Sad that they are still relevant today - recorded in 69 & 68, respectively. They really emphasise how much emotion he puts in to the words.

Elvis played in the Juke Joints when he started. He loved the Gospels and would spend time at Black Churches in the South. He grew up in Mississippi in a Shotgun House. Many Singers in the early 50's did as well.

50 years ago. How relavent for today. A little bit of trivia, I don't know if someone mentioned this before but the powers-that-be did not want him to do this song. Elvis said, I'm doing the song. He committed the same thing when he first started his career on The Ed Sullivan Show, when Sullivan told him he was not going to sing a gospel song on his show, and Elvis said I will do the gospel song because my mother wanted me to or I won't do the show at all. Could have ruined his career then, so Ed Sullivan let him sing the song. I Think God blessed him because he never denied God in private or public and he always called Jesus the King. As you probably already know he was born poor, and he never forgot where he came from and he never forgot who was still there. If you read anything about his generosity it was unsurpassed. Thank you man for being so respectful. Love you.

No one wanted to do the song except Elvis, that's why no one supported him doing it.

Elvis was working class, and knew firsthand the problems of the workers in the black community. He loved gospel, and went to his masses for music. Elvis saw the problems in his community, the worker, whether black or white. He also sponsored musicians like Fats Domino.

"Nuwanda" Esteve sánchez It is though. Elvis said he wanted to sing more socially aware songs and that he would never sing another song or act in another movie he didn’t believe in. Mac Davies had written the song with his black childhood friend in mind, who lived in the poor part of town, and he didn’t understand, as a child, why it had to be like that. Mac Davies said this was when the word ghetto was beginning to be a thing and a word that described that. He showed it to Elvis and Elvis said Yes! This is my song!

Great reaction. What stood out to me.. 🎶“ are we too blind to see?” He was begging everyone to be better!! And to get the pain and suffering going on (in the 70’s I think?)
He knew some of the struggles, and wanted to make a difference! ❤️ Bless his soul. Very few artists have touched true issues the way he did.
Heck, he even performed a song in a prison... cause he knew, good peeps were there and everywhere! Hats off to Elvis! 😉👍🏻 and also to your reaction.

      A GREAT READ .... Take the time .... It's worth it ....
WHY DO WE KEEP FIGHTING .... Because we let the Mainstream Media play us for fools ....PEOPLE .... It is Mainstream Media that pits one against another today .... As they did in 1968 .... Or any other timeline they wanted diereses .... { WAR } .... Rather country to country or person to person .... This is the playbook they have used for centuries and still use it today in the year 2020 .... They the { Cabal= Deep State } Have al-ways controlled the narrative to the masses back then as they do now-a-day .... Today it works with mind control by way of that TV set you have in your living room ....Or newspapers .... Radio .... Or any other means of one way communication to the people and control their thinking by putting it out as .... { THE NEWS .... The 4 am drop } .... Making up a Lies and propaganda to fit their agenda and to keep us the masses dumb-down .... They al-ways have and if they would have their way Al-ways will ..... So the people that are not aware that .... This is how they control your thinking along with many other ways but this is one that works pretty good for them .... They use it a-lot .... { Remember the Riots of late } ....There are more ways for them but let's just look at this one for now .... They know you think .... It must be real .... CAUSE IT IS ON TV .... It must be real .... Right .... Wrong .... You think that cause it is on the news it's real .... CAUSE THEY CAN'T LIE .... Why do you think The President calls it { FAKE NEWS } .... CAUSE IT IS .... It is all about Power .... Nothing else matters .... { NOTHING } .... Get it ........ So that .... IS HOW THEY KEEP US FIGHTING.... So they can stay in power .... Look .... If they told you that some country just attacked so-and-so's country right now .... If it were on Mainstream TV .... You would believe it .... Why .... Cause it is on TV .... So now .... { Another page out of their play book } They now have paid crisis actors to riot and destroy buildings and Statues and many other things .... As that is what they did .... ALL our forefathers fought for and died for and put it on TV and tell you some other lies about it .... And claim it under other purposes so they can win your vote .... You believe it .... And the fighting begins and they win .... { IT'S IS AS SIMPLE AS THAT .... PERIOD .... } .... Once they get your vote .... They now could not care less about you .... They do it every four years like clock work .... But this time .... This time they are really scared .... As they know they are way .... Way behind and it looks as though they are going to lose .... BIG .... And they are .... As we the people are waking up to their satanic ways ....They are about to lose their power over us .... So they are destroying everything they can with .... Great video and as a law enforcement officer for 35 years I understand realities that existed then and still exist today. I have seen and helped several through the struggles. I am a white male Republican and racial harmony should never have a barrier to help. We just have to do It even when most Republicans are not welcome. It’s not what you say but how you say it and then lead in a positive way with caring actions. Elvis knew this and he practiced this as he gave more to others to include the minorities than he ever kept for himself. He theory was stated and documented. “I live among and owe all I have to God and the people who did not run out on me and I won’t leave them either. “ Elvis was never political and made it clear he was an entertainer not a politician and kept his political opinions to himself. However listening to his songs you knew how he felt for mankind.

Elvis grew up in topelo in a mix white and black community and he was part of the black church signing that's how Elvis started as a very poor family, in 18 months he became who he was the king but he gave back more to everyone in his community and if a booking was done in a none black concert he would refuse to sing till colour community was allowed in. He was a kind hearted human being, that's why he is so loved still today I am 62 years old it puts tears to my eyes each time I hear his music. Try listening to his gospels music as well.

But one night and trying to get to you, especially in the 68 comeback special. Amazing. Heartbreak hotel from the 50’s. On one tv appearance his band members said after his death he went off scripted from the song and went full R&B mode but they knew Elvis well enough to just adjust the way they played the song and let the saxophone take over. With My Way and the trilogy songs and being alive through much of his career, those songs looking back you could feel that he knew his end was coming. His dad said Elvis died when his mom died, his body just kept going another 22 years. Such a sad story, especially his lady 4 years. Similar in many regards to the king of pop Michael Jackson and prince when doctors prescribed medicine that conflicted to other meds or prescribed too much. An amazing artist that was actually very shy, unless it came to the ladies, but anxiety ate him alive. Every performance the band had to coax him to even get on stage. The 1968 special, he wanted to cancel the show he was so nervous. But once he did get on stage, lights out. He was the ultimate performer, much like Michael, do idiolized Elvis and actually uses many of Elvis’ dance moves from the 50’s, besides marrying his daughter. Lol. Obviously Michael was the dance king but he said he started out copying Elvis’ stage presence and moves.

I'm crying, This was specifically about the ghetto in the fifties and sixties, meaning the black neighborhood that a person could not get out of or escape: a place of rows of public housing buildings ten or twelve stories high where people were crammed into little apartments with chipping paint, broken light bulbs in the stairways, broken elevators where you had to take the dangerous stairs, poor plumbing, rotting wood and rats and cockroaches ignored by the city where crime festered.

Thanks bro, great review. On the song. Elvis didn't write the song, a country guy named Mac Davis did. But, Elvis loved the song so much that he wanted to record the song even against he's procedure/record company RCA advice. The song was released in 1969 at a time of incredible social unrest. On the lyrics, all that's needed is a third verse for the police brutality & Murder of our black men.

It mentions Chicago. It was written specifically for the situation in the Black Community. Then, Elvis could see they were suffering and no one bothered to help. Elvis's parents joined East Trigg Baptist Church (along with other churches in Memphis because they couldn't get enough of God and singing Gospel. He and his mother went to revivals held in tents at night every day for 3 hours just singing. When his parents didn't go, Elvis would show up on his own.) East Trigg Baptist Church was led by the Black Minister Herbert Brewster. Because Elvis had the type of voice for that choir, he sang in an All Black Gospel choir. In the South, with Jim Crow laws Elvis never thought twice about it because it was the only thing he wanted to do, and Elvis's family lived in "Shake Rag." It was the part of Memphis that POC lived. Elvis was not considered white. He shopped in used clothing stores in the Black section of town. He wore colors like pink and purple. No one looked like him or sounded like him but all his roots were Gospel. There is s street in Memphis that is pure Blues, Rhythm n' Blues, Jazz, They were all Black owned establishments. Elvis hung out there and sang in those establishments.Thank you for your reaction. It was very moving.

It's the first time I've seen close-ups of the backup singers, for example. @Dxmn Tyler ; FUNFACT ; Elvis never sung this after 1970 again during his concert tours cause " If i can dream" and " In the Ghetto" were special songs for Elvis and only to be sung at special occasions and not like a random song of their repertoire like almost most artists do these days because of $$$ . Also noticed Elvis his 'soul' gospel background in his style in this clip. He stands there like "priest" . Something personal : My buddy Sunny who owns a black bar has these pictures of people he find meant something for the black community in our lifetime . And besides pictures of Malcom X , Martin Luther King , Kareem , Magic Johnson , James Brown , Mohammed Ali , Michael Jackson etc, Elvis his picture is the only one he allows to be hanging on the wall with all these greats . Why someone once asked : Reply : " He was the only white dude who in a time when we as blacks were segregated , humiliated and hidden away in the American music history , who recorded and showed our music trough his singing and moves to white America and who start hating him . He pushed black music to the forefront as in opening the door for us to come trough : " here... this is also mainstream music and good , listen to it. " That action and the way he always respected and treated us in whatever he did or went to , gives the man a place to be one of us. Period. So go F'k urself with wanting Dean Martin or any other white dude/ band on that wall. :D :D
