Replace Front ABS Wheel Speed Sensor Ford F150
I just want to say thank you for this. I got to the point where I popped the red lock off the plug and was getting frustrated that the wire and plug weren’t coming about. You are a life savior, sir.
Thank you for watching! I'm glad it helped!
Thank you that red tab on the connector was driving me nuts...everyone else skips over it or say "remove plug". You are kind enough to explain HOW. Thank you very much.
I'm very glad this was helpful! Thank you so much for watching!
You put a lot of time and energy into this video and it's VERY HELPFUL. Great details, especially on that plug! I'll be replacing the sensor this weekend. Thank you Dennis!!! -Preston
Thank you very much, Preston! I appreciate you watching!
THANK YOU for showing how to open the clip!
I had everything done except the clip!
Frustrated and getting dark!
BRAVO!!!
Thank You!
Thank You!
I'm glad this helped, Cliff! Thank you for watching!
Thank you for the video. I wanted to see how to loosen the red clip before I broke it.
Those red clips make me nervous! Thanks for watching, Matthew!
I feel way more confident in completing this job. I thought I would have to bleed the brakes and remove hub etc. Very informative. Do you have to torque it back down? or is a ¼turn after tightening goodd
Thank you❤
Thanks for watching! There is probably a torque spec for those bolts, but since the speed sensor flanges are plastic, I just tightened them until snug and maybe an 1/8 or 1/4 turn beyond.
My R side sensor needs to be replaced, where does the top of the line attach? I need to know everything before I start.
Like everybody is saying excellent job, every bit of it. I am sick of these jack offs that want their 15 seconds of fame. I don’t want to know about their dog, family or work. Don’t want them to race though it. Hate when they have to back track or go out of order. You nailed it be very proud. ❤it
Thank you very much and I really appreciate you watching! The right side connects on the top, right behind the battery. There are 3 main, large cables that connect at the firewall behind the battery. The ABS sensor connector is behind them, just toward the engine side of that area. I hope that helps!
Very good video! 👍🏻 keep it up
I appreciate you watching, David! Thanks
Great job. Will the ABS light on the dash reset or do I need a high $$$ code reader?
Thank you for watching, Butch! It depends on what the problem is. I was getting a bad wheel speed sensor code and all the other associated errors. Replaced the sensor and cleared some of the codes, but not all, including the ABS light. Think I need to replace the wheel hub next, still troubleshooting. Some of the parts stores will read and clear codes for you. You could try that first. If the code/light comes back, you may have to keep troubleshooting.
I'm curious as to why you had to change out the speed sensor? Did you get a "Service Advancetrac light on"?
Thanks for watching! I had an ABS light. I used Forscan to read my trucks issues, it told me I had a bad wheel speed sensor.
Thank you for sharing Dennis! Hopefully, I will not have to do this in the near future.
Yes, hopefully, you won't have any trouble! Thanks for watching, John!
What were the symptoms that led you to replacing the sensor?
ABS errors on the dash. Thank you for watching!
How do you determine which sensor is bad to begin with? BTW I have a 2012 F150 4 wheel drive.
Thanks for watching, Donnie! I used Forscan and hooked my laptop up to the truck for diagnostics. You can use a multimeter and measure the resistance of each one, usually this will allow you to determine which one is bad. You can also measure the AC voltage generated by each one when you spin the wheel. I hope this helps!
I got the same error code. How do I known what wheel sensor to replace ?
Thanks for watching! I use Forscan and my laptop, it will tell me which sensor. Some of the more advanced diagnostic tools will do the same, like what bigger shops will have.
NEW DENNIS VIDEO DROPPED LETS GOOOOOO
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video. Is this the same on a 2019 F-150?
Thanks for watching, Mike! It should be the same for a 2019.
Thank you this was very helpful! Great video
Thank you for watching, Dale!
7:40 Is it me, or is there a crack in that upper controlling arm?
Thank you for the exceptionally well made and helpful video. Very generous.
No, that's just the edge of the weld. Thanks for watching!!
After replacing the sensor do you have to clear the code with Forscan?
I did with my truck. Thanks for watching!
@@dwcoffey did you just clear the fault code or there anything specific you do to calibrate the new speed sensor?
As long as the fault is coming from the sensor alone, clearing the code will fix the issue. If there are other problems, like the wheel hub, you'll have to fix that before clearing the codes.
if you replace the wheel speed sensors for an intermittent advance trac problem, and then after replacing the ABS light and Advance trac light come on and stay on. What now? Plug old ones back in, light goes off *reason for replacement is intermittent problem during high104 degree temps and intermittent advance trac light.
Thank you for watching, Timothy! I have received bad replacement sensors....check them against your old ones by testing resistance across the two contacts. Could be a bad replacement. If you have Forscan and a cable, you can tell which sensor is the problem.
Thanks Dennis💪
Thank you for watching, Juan!
I changed mine out but it says on the code reader it’s the wrong speed sensor and the ABS light is still on (positive it’s not the wrong sensor) have you ran into this issue?
Thanks for watching, Manuel! I had the same problem later. Turned out that on mine, the hub was bad and had to replace it. There's a notched ring built into the hub that acts as an encoder for the speed sensor, if that goes bad, the hub has to be replaced. Replacing the hub takes a couple of special tools that I don't' have, so I had the local shop do it. It was about $200 parts and labor for a new hub installed. All ABS problems were resolved.
Awesome video got mine replaced since the break caliper bolts fell out and the caliper slashed the sensor wire got it replaced after watching this video but the ABS light is still on. Did you have the same issue?
You may need to clear the codes with a code reader. I have a different problem, actually have a bad hub sensor too, so I'll do a video later on how to replace that.
Is this the same process as a rwd?
Yes, I believe it is the same. Thanks for watching!
Nice job! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for watching!
We wear the same brand safety shoes!
