This tale of "handles like a race car and costs like one, too" reminds of a 1960's VW commercial. Two houses are shown the on the screen. The man who lives on the house on the left is a sports car mechanic. Karmann Ghia."
I’ve had my 987S Boxster for over a year now. I’ve put 15k miles on it and do most all of the work myself. Yeah it has its trick for doing something like the spark plugs but it’s not difficult. It’s a great car and has been very reliable for me.
Great info. This is EXACTLY like owning an airplane. If you think you are going to justify the thing by looking at a spreadsheet you are out of your mind. You buy and own it because you WANT it. Nothing else. Great video and discussion...especially the example of a 12 foot radiator hose....classic.

You can DIY all basic maintenance on the Porsche Cayman. That cover in the back hatch area comes off and provides access to the top of the engine. The panel behind the seats is removed to gain access to the front of the engine. Pull the rear wheels and a liner panel to gain access to the heads/coil packs and spark plugs. Changing the oil is not that different than most other cars. Very affordable. The clutch, the IMS Bearing or some major catastrophe would be the only reasons to "drop the engine". One of the best kept secret mid-engine cars ever built.
If you want a bargain sports car that’s perfect for track and daily driving and give you a solid cool factor, you can go wrong with a C5 Corvette. Bullet proof little motors that pack more power than a standard cayman (like the one Scotty showed) and the torque is healthy. Plus I’ve seen them get pretty good gas mileage on the highway. V8, RWD, and a near perfect 50/50 weight distribution that weighs close to 3,200 pounds is a bargain when you can pick one up for $15k or $8k for a higher mileage one
Awesome to see some cayman coverage! I actually had a plastic bit inside my cayman's door break today! It cost me 470 to get it fixed, but about 400 of that amount was for labor. Turns out it's actually the labor, not the parts, that cost the most when repairing small plastic bits on an old cayman! 🤣 I still love my cayman though...even with the random expensive repair bill. 😁
Yikes. Your comment made me notice that. Lol yeah slowed down a little bit for a stop sign. Just a little bit but not too much. I got a ticket once for going through a stop sign and I was going way way way slower than that. It was just a cop parked out of sight and waiting for people to come up to the stop sign and not have their wheels come to a completely perfect stop.
I had the opportunity to buy a 2003 911. The ones that came out with the defective camshaft bearing. It had 30k miles and had a blown engine . They wanted $3,000 for it. The body was immaculate. It was a blue convertible. Gorgeous car. Ended up walking out of the deal and a buddy of mine jumped on it. He thought he could rebuild the engine himself. When he opened the engine it was completely destroyed inside. The bearing broke Into a million pieces and they fell inside of the engine. It turned out to be an endless money pit. He sold the car after he pulled the engine out to another sucker for 6 grand. At least he made 3k for his troubles.
You can see him slow down before it. He doesn't stop like you're supposed to, but who does that if you can see everything and nothing's coming? Maybe it's a bit stricter in the USA, I don't know.
I'll stick with riding on the couch in my 97 lincoln towncar. If I wanna feel like im racing i'll just drive my 01 tacoma through a field jumping hills.
I think you’re feeling bumps & hearng creeks & clunks due to worn suspension components. Porsche owners do like to drive their cars hard , especially when they are new and push it’s handling to the limits. At 6:59 I also noticed that the headlining is being held in place by thumb pins!

He said mechanics get fat using lifts! Crawling under keeps him in shape, according to him.
@@FredTheLutinoCocatiel maybe because you eat too much or a lot of junk food?🤔
Scotty doesn't need a lift for cars. He needs a lift for those hefty checks from RUclips!
SCOTTY: "They're like modern day go-karts."
MODERN DAY GO-KARTS: "Thanks for raising the bar."
Two kinds of people buy exotic/sports cars, those with oodles of money that simply don't care about cost.
And those who find enjoyment on working on and keeping running their toys.
I'm the latter, but I don't have the funds for a toy right now.
If you are neither the executive VP or a weekend wrenching gear-head, RUN as fast as you can.
I've had my 76 911 Carrara for 18 years love it.....
@Elliot Rodger no reply lol!!!!
This tale of "handles like a race car and costs like one, too" reminds of a 1960's VW commercial. Two houses are shown the on the screen. (The one on the right is a broken-down log cabin, the one on the left, a stylish mansion.) Voiceover: "The man who lives in the house on the right owns a sports car. The man who lives on the house on the left is a sports car mechanic. Karmann Ghia."
Happy Birthday 🥂! Scotty .
Rev up your birthday cake 🎂 !!!
How u know it's his birthday?
Sharath Nair I was reading the comments below.
“Sugar daddy” 😂
I wonder if Scotty become's Hoovie's official mechanic. I think they will have the best chemistry.
Jann Chavez that would be funny!
@6:28 Check engine light is visible !!! O' OOOOH, there goes another thousand bucks lol !!!
That's just for the diagnosis.
No car is a "money Pit" when you're a mechanic, and your OWN labor is 'free'....suddenly, your only expense is parts...and, as a mechanic, you get those at wholesale prices. You're not fooling ME, Scotty...
First I stopped buying clothes because they lose value so quickly. Then I left my family because they are endless money pits. Next I’m going to stop eating because food doesn’t last very long. Wish me luck.
0:44 "...there's not much work room on theses babies!" 😆
Laughs in reliability
I never clicked so fast on a video before
There's a panel behind the seats that can be removed, which gives better access to the engine.
I drove 160 mph thru Texas on the 40 in a 2002 Boxster. (Somebody else’s Boxster!!!) It was very flashy. Driving thru Times Square in NY I couldn’t afford to park but everyone was looking... 15 years ago...
Ahh the check engine light, a feature that appears on all VW group cars after around 3 years.
You mean appears on every car?
@@mladenbro8435 12 year old Honda Odyssey running great check engine, only intermittent AC. Par for the course for the age. Probably getting new one next winter.
had my check engine light on my toyota for 5+ years and still driving down the road with no major problems
VW, they're pretty dirty cars. VW is the biggest cheating emissions company
@@josephmarsh8235 Yes, one of the most unethical corporates in the world. They cheated on emissions to get a head of the competition, while knowing they would be killing thousands per year due to increased risk of lung cancer.
6:40 Scotty blows through stop sign....horse laugh!!!
Scotty: im making so much money i can just give cars away lol.
I rented one that also had the check engine light on and it also still ran like a champ. I hit like 125 mph on the freeway
Nobody:
Scotty: This one just a giant Porsche Go-kart.
And look in the backseat
THERE IS NO BACKSEAT HAHAHAHA😂😂😂😂😂
Love Scotty 🖒🖒
I tuned in to hear my favorite words. Endless money pit. Amusing to me I must say.
Man that ceiling sure has a lot tacks in it! Reminds me of my Mom's old Buick lol
I'm glad somebody else noticed that. My grandmother took a staple gun to her old Chrysler.
happy 200th scotty!!
I've tried a Carrera 911 on a track the other day.... OMG!!!
I’ll stick with my Honda 🤷♂️
Built not bought.
Is it me or is the headlining stapled to the roof, both my cars have that treatment lol
I still love my cayman though...even with the random expensive repair bill. 😁
Scotty is the kind of guy who stops for a stop sign while he’s in the middle of the intersection
Danm thousands $ just a bulbs lights replacement, this morning I just bought a package LEDs lights for my Subaru only for $8 and also free shipping.
6:30
Of course the Check Engine light is on in it.
That thing was coming apart on the interior. Even the headliner had pins holding it up. I had to do the same thing to my Audi TT...LOL
Congratulations 🎉 on the new ride
Happy Birthday Scotty!🍨🎂
thanks!
Scotty You’re welcome
6:36 Scotty slows down for stop sign (insert laughing donkey here)
6:26 Is that straight considered a "twisty road" in the us? haha
Marek Fotr No Scotty is just a Porsche hater..... but you could see that he really enjoyed driving it even though he was putting it down. ha ha ha.
3:01 An ignition switch on the left side? That's a first for me.
6:58 I wonder if go-kart tracks are getting more rare to find these days.
yea the left ignition is a Porsche thing, I believe called “Le Mans” style
Welcome to the dark side Scotty. I love my Porsche
Right through the boulevard stop!
6:38 "Scotty, do you know why I pulled you over?"
Scotty: "because I let you but while we're here are you aware of the endless money pit of a cruiser you're driving?"
im calling the cops
At 7:00 what are all those tacks in the head liner. They look too random to be original.
a 4 cylinder mustang is turbocharged so how is that a valid comparison to a flat 6?
If they are so cheap, I would buy a few donor cars
I noticed you spent a lot more time “test driving" this car😂😂
Scotty you have workrd had your whole life you should enjoy it!! Buy a Porsche.
Scotty just low key said he's got lots of monies! 😂
7,000,000 net worth? Wow
Suhail Shuaib even before RUclips, I’m sure Scotty said he was a millionaire from his mechanic businesses.
I hope you put an axle stand under it before you climbed under...
6:39 did he just ran a stop sign.
Lol
You can see him slow down before it. He doesn't stop like you're supposed to, but who does that if you can see everything and nothing's coming?
Maybe it's a bit stricter in the USA, I don't know.
At least in some states the rules say you only have to sufficiently slow down to proceed safely.
6:39 🛑
Scotty : rev up your engines!!
A few moments later:🚔
I'll stick with riding on the couch in my 97 lincoln towncar. If I wanna feel like im racing i'll just drive my 01 tacoma through a field jumping hills.
I think you’re feeling bumps & hearng creeks & clunks due to worn suspension components. Porsche owners do like to drive their cars hard , especially when they are new and push it’s handling to the limits. At 6:59 I also noticed that the headlining is being held in place by thumb pins!
Oh, Scotty! I wanted to wish you a happy BDay and congrates on your new old 911. They do offer uber excitement - driving, crashing, repairing.
That's not a 911...
