howitzers(otherwise known as morters) are cannons due to them being used to lob large explosive shells over fortifications in 1800's
But are you sure about that :P
They're an artillery piece, so categorize them however you want.
@FrazzzYT pretty sure they used to be used on navel bomb ships, primarily before they brought them to land or had the capability to move them on land easily
Howie is a cannon. You can debate whether about the fact it's AA susceptible, but then again, that puts missiles, rockets, and mortars under similar categories. You can debate the historical origins, but that's really tricky, and the best answer is it's both a mortar and a cannon. But in the end, it comes down to the fact that the Howie is under the same tech as cannons, which in my opinion is the clearest possible indicator for the game of Forts.

In short, howitzers are technically both cannons and mortars, though they fall somewhere between the 2. All in all, I disagree with what you think. :P

According to usa a howitzer is a cannon explanation is below about cannon vs mortars
U.S. military doctrine defines howitzers as any cannon artillery capable of both high-angle fire (45° to 90° elevation) and low-angle fire (0° to 45° elevation); guns are defined as being only capable of low-angle fire (0° to 45° elevation); and mortars are defined as being only capable of high-angle fire (45° to 90° elevation).
Now do it again for other countries xD
Howitzers are cannons, and according to the US Military's doctrine definition that defines howitzers as, "...any cannon artillery capable of both high-angle fire (45° to 90° elevation) and low-angle fire (0° to 45° elevation)" -The Modern Weaponry of the World's Armed Forces by Chandar, Col y Udaya.

The howitzer is an artillery weapon that falls between cannon and a mortar. The difference between a howitzer, cannon and mortar is that the cannon became the general term for large ordnance. A gun was a cannon designed to fire in a flat trajectory, a howitzer was a shorter piece designed to throw exploding shells in an arcing trajectory, and a mortar was a very short piece for firing at elevations of more than 45°. Therefore the howitzer is neither a cannon or a mortar. But is in its own different category of artillery.
You should combine this with the airship mod, then we have ground and air battles at the same time.

Fortships r just far better than landcruiders (movement, stability, cost, harder to hit) and no one would use landcruisers if both are used

@@FrazzzYT in the terms of this game, yes. It has a similar fire arc and takes up a similar amount of space. Mortars are much smaller and fire mostly up, where the Howie can be direct fired.

Frazz doesn't know how to build vehicles. Me I'm a Terratech pro player so building cars or tanks on this game with thisnmod would be a piece of cake. Plus I've watched enough forts videos to know that you always double or triple brace your vehicles for supports!

@@FrazzzYT I did watch the video but you had your cannons exposed at times I would have built up and I would have at least 6 doors to protect against triple cannons or barrages lol! One day I want to 1v1 you using the mod and we can see who is better at using it. Btw I'm Scottish too since my surname is McDonald. Actually I'm Scottish, English, Irish on my dad's side and on my mum's side I'm Bengali!
I mean if you ever find me time to do random games lol then so be it. But I record, edit all my own content and edit for three other clients sooo... Rest of the time is with echo and my other half lol
But also no point building up when it worked fine and we were also a commander that allows us to move stuff around with ease :)
@@joshmcdonald2847technically cross bracing isnt as stable as stability tech and using 4 longs overlapping but tbh the tank usually doesnt need it since its small enuf. Very rare to collapse a tank due to stress breaking the wood. Also exposed cannond r fine if theres nothing that can shoot at it (and even if there is, the phantom commander allows u to move those in and out of ur tank quickly so theres only a small window to shoot them and they would normally by dealing with whatever dmg u did when u fired instead of firing back)

Absolutely howitzer is a cannon just because it can be shit down doesnt mean its a mortar the howitzer literally shoots a large projectile out of a cannon to cover large distances its a cannon bro lol

I would say Howitzers are in the same category as a mortars, cause they can be intercepted by AA.
Although they can be shot down doesn’t make it a mortar because the projectile is shot out of a cannon just like the cannon balls of the 1600’s
