Centrally located in Buenos Aires the 25sqm El Camarín occupies a triangular space in a 1950’s building previously left empty due to its small size. A unique scalloped balcony screen allowed iR architecture to incorporate the balcony into an expanded living area. The bedroom was relocated and separated from the living area with a combined storage/shelving unit that slides underneath the bed. Polished concrete throughout connects each part of the home, leading through to the bathroom where a multifunctional ladder allows access to the rooftop terrace. A hidden feature that provides an oasis of calm within the busy city.

The shape of this floor plan is probably the most challenging one of all the ones I've seen on NEVER TOO SMALL..
Totally agree with you! 🙀
Truly too small.
The size
And the entirely odd shape but well done to the architect for bringing the apartment new life.
And it's great how they included the balcony into the living space and provided it with a veeery big and curvy balcony window. Serving natural light to the whole interior for hours.
Considering the shape of the room, the architect made a miracle
The white screens are genius. Although they are not æsthetically the best on the exterior side, it works wonder for bouncing light have privacy indoors and double the usable living area
I think if ground floor of the building would have another colour... Maybe dark grey or orange this contras will highlight this perforated metal panels
@@mihiec great input. Indeed, it's probably lacking contrast from the street view to make it interesting
it was good to see the windows opened inwards as i have come across many apartments where this does not happen and the windows cannot be cleaned outside because of fixed metal screens..
What they should do is sell advertising space there. A perforated wrap with an add for a florist shoppe.
The exterior view is quite imposing for how light it looks on the interior.
That balcony and terrace reveal brought me euphoria.
This is such a challenging layout plan, mad props to the designer. I hope more take the opportunity to redesign small spaces like these, you'd feel so proud from such finishings...
Same here, a night around that fireplace in the summer must be marvelous. The only thing I’d miss is a starry sky.
Definitely the most interesting use of space on the channel. Loved it!
@@caheviana Would be nice to have some drinks out there at night but going down on the ladder, I'd probably just fall straight into the shower.
@@caheviana yeah specially when you want to poop and you have people over on your terrace.
yes before that i was thinking this is difficult space, but that lifted everything. lol the reveal !!
“How do I get upstairs?”
“Through the kitchen door, pass the bathroom, into the shower, and up the shampoo rack.”
Now this is a real never too small
What a transformation! Hiding the clothes racks under the bed is ingenious.
Indeed!
Clever. Think personally i would turn the bed around in order to shield the bed as well give privacy
if you have ever used racks like that, you would realize that it is flimsy, and hard to 'steer'. must be super frustrating to access clothes, or set up the also flimsy 'dining table'.
@@miam1074 Yes. They should use sturdier Racks (maybe custom made from steel profile) with non-rotating casters, so it rolls in&out easily…
@@miam1074 yes the table looked unstable to my taste. So many great choices of stand alone folding tables that can be moved or tucked away instead.
Ohhh I absolutely love Buenos Aires. When I was a young lad and an architecture nerd, I saw a photo book on BsAs and became obsessed. I visited a few years ago and it's possibly the most beautiful city on earth. It's like Paris on steroids. Whenever a local found out I was Australian, they would be so incredibly friendly to me. I think whenever Argentines hear spoken English, they assume it's a North American or a Brit, who they're friendly with, but it appears they're just super friendly with Aussies. The Argentine sense of aesthetic is incredible, I would move there tomorrow if any Argentines want to swap with me and come live in Australia. You can really see BsAs was once a very wealthy country with its grand buildings, but outside of those buildings, the sidewalk is crumbling, so you can also tell it's going through a tough time financially.
you’re welcome here anytime! as our economy plummeted, it also became considerably cheaper for tourist to come here. not great for us, but i love walking down our avenues and hearing foreign languages. i would trade places but i’m very afraid of the fauna there so i’ll pass 😅
I was like “how could anyone survive quarantine in such a small space?” But then I saw the rooftop and everything made sense
Where I live, we were never trapped in our homes.
Same
People survive a lot more challenging things than living in a small space if they have to
Nobody should have ever quarantined indoors.
Social distance yes (perhaps dven triple the distance where possible), but get out in the sun under the sky
Idk, I know a lot of people (including me) that dream of lounging outside and buy big balconies or deck but in the end they will just stay on their bed on the phone.
The balcony just lifts the whole space up !
The ultimate example of making the best out of a difficult situation. The renovation made a tiny unfortunately-shaped apartment seem spacious and magical. That ladder to the rooftop pergola was just a dream and being able to allot a separation for the bed "room" and even squeeze in a workstation was amazing.
despite how weird the shape is, making the balcony a part of the apartment for more room looks so good. I love the shelf with the study nook beside the bed.
What he did with the balcony is absolutely outstanding. What a way to utilize and unused space. Brilliant design. Bravo 👏 edit.. oh snap I spoke too soon.. the deck and pergola on top.... ooooh myyyy gooosh... double bravo. Wow!!! Incredible. Wish I could have seen this place when I was there!
The amount of light and extended space in the balcony makes the whole apartment perfect.
This is my favourite NTS apartment. There’s something about the light and the plants that is welcoming and that ladder up to the terrace, which also functions as a shower shelf, is ingenious. The terrace provides a whole other living space that would be beautiful in the summer in Argentina. It would be easy to stay home here.
Ouh, the ladder to the roof is just genius!!!
How about that amazing terrace 😍❤️
@@nevertoosmall Yes! Didn't see THAT coming! 😍
I liked it too- but If it is used double functionally you’re gonna step all on your soap 🤔
@@gus473 high five!
@@nevertoosmall 🤚🆒😎
The designer said “working on a small space is interesting because it presents a challenge.” That’s what brings me and many others to this channel. The design difficulties of dealing with small space limitations really drives creative and unique solutions that are just riveting.
Agreed! Always a surprise.
Agreed! I like places like this because not only are we working with spatial limitations, but they also have to work around the odd shape of a unit in this old building.
Living in a small space is the real challenge.
I concur with other commentators that this floor plan was particularly challenging. I think the designers did a wonderful job of making the space livable and carving out so many great storage solutions. I also really like the way they integrated the bathroom and laundry area. I don't like it when the laundry is visually connected to the kitchen. Piles of dirty dishes AND dirty clothes are not a good combo! I also like the simple back-painted glass back splash in the kitchen. Reminiscent of sea glass. Well done!
I think the laundry would be better in the kitchen - integrated laundry so that it is not asthetically visible BUT with the benefit of almost doubling the width of the kitchen worktop. The space above the washing machine in the current location in the bathroom is kind of a redundant space. I don't know why dirty clothes would ever be on display in a kitchen even if a washing machine is in the kitchen?
@@deltastate3936 I appreciate your well considered feedback Delta. But I can promise you from personal experience, having the laundry area in the kitchen means both are on display and commingle. I kick away piles of laundry waiting to be washed in order to make my morning coffee. Not ideal.
@@TheSteveAS fair enough - seems you keep your dirty laundry next to your washing machine? I didn't realise ppl did that, I've not seen that in all the homes I've seen... but in any case I would think it a simple change to make to store laundry basket elsewhere if it means almost doubling the width of the kitchen worktop. In terms of practicality and usability of the space it just makes more sense
I fell off my chair when they showed the roof ! Mind blowing!
Feliz de ver un departamento Argentino en estas series, muy bueno!!

This apartment looks really amazing! 😍🥰 it's not everyday you see an odd shaped space be transformed into something elegant
We love it too ❤️❤️
Was already impressed by how the balcony was integrated into the apartment. And then the terrace just blew me away.
The misty effect of of the perforated metal screens is gorgeous. Every morning is a misty one!
This is by far my favourite NTS apartment! With the architect turning what would be seen as 'left over' space into an absolute masterpiece. Thank you for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it!
This one is one of my favorites. It's so bright, and the rooftop would be such a spot to be. Love it.
Anyone can design a large space - but it takes creativity to successfully design a small space!
This is so clever!!!! I love how they made much better use of the balcony and I would never have expected the roof area!! They’ve made this so much more liveable than before
Such a cool space! I love how light it is while still being private. And that outdoor area looks like such a nice place to be!
I just wish there was a little more counter space and somewhere cozy to sit inside besides the bed. A little curved sofa by the window would make a nice place to sit and people watch.
I absolutely love this. Brilliant use of space. Love how the balcony was incorporated, and the roof terrace is just the cherry on the top.
It's perfect. A dream-come-true flat. This space is the best I have seen so far on this Never too Small channel and I tend to like all of them.
Incredible use of space!
Very proud to see a piece of Chacarita on this channel! Love the design y las palabras del arquitecto fueron excelentes!
This one might be my favorite so far.
Stunning! So light. Amazing use of the balcony. And the chill area on the roof is divine. 💋
Ok the ladder in the bathroom up to the terrace is so cool
This project had so many little surprises in such a challenging space! I love it. Bravo to the architect!
The thumbnail made me go 'whoa', watching the video the design definitely didn't dissapoint. Very well done!
But seriously, hands down probably the most difficult existing floor plan that has ever been on NTS. Props to the architect!
Thanks a ton!
The challenging builds are certainly the most interesting ones to watch! NTS indeed
One of the best designs featured on this channel. The shelving-storage between the living room and bedroom is simply stunning. Overall a masterpiece in my not-so-humble opinion. 😍 🤩
The windows is so pretty, like its layering by fog, so refreshing
That rooftop was the winner for me. Having a small space in an apartment setting.. but then you have an access to a balcony or rooftop is priceless!👌🏻💯
I love how light this apartment is! It makes it feel a lot more spacious!
The balcon/windows truly make this apartment!
This has got to be the best design ever given its small space. You’ve outdone yourselves once again!! Amazing job👏👏👏
first saw this in Archdaily and since then I couldn't stop thinking of this super chic balcony. So glad Never Too Small made a video of this apartment! lovely neighborhood too
Have you ever watch somethung that you cant help but smile because you’re actually amazed? It’s this video
i literally gasped when he showed the way to the rooftop. very clever!
One of the coolest places I‘ve ever seen. Absolutely incredible!
The original plan triggers my claustrophobia but the change up excites the little kid in me. And a hidden bathroom with another hidden ladder for the roof terrace is beyond perfect.
it made me so happy to see an episode filmed in argentina. muy lindo trabajo!!!
The incorporation of the balcony is a genius move.
Finally, a video in Latin America! So exiting!
Also, this apartment is beautiful, very different and the architect manage the distribution of the spaces in a very very cleaver way. The tons of light from the windows and also the terrace give the space a lot of freshness, I really love it!
More videos from Latin America please! ¡Saludos!
The apartment is so beautiful and airy!!! It is so calm and relaxing!
This is the most amazing and beautiful 25sqm appartment ive ever seen. Makes me want to live here
This is beautiful!!! Jamás pensé que iba a ver algo hecho acá en Argentina en Never too small, y mucho menos pensé que iba a ser algo tan hermoso en caso de que sucediera! 😍
This is one of the most amazing transformations. So beautiful, creative and so much LIGHT! It feels so airy with the covered patio and the rooftop patio was such a suprise!
I'm grieving the loss of that gorgeous original parquet flooring
Only one word to describe this refurbishing project: AMAZING. Congrats and love from Argentina.
That terrace, what a surprise! Really challenging project, and it looks so honest
The redesigned home space looks pretty efficient and effective, but the literal cherry on top is the lovely rooftop terrace!
This appartement is amazing! So clever done. I love the sleeping area - it is very cozy. But the balcony - that is the true hit! And the top of the appartement is a big surprise! Wonderful! Love it! Would love to live there!
It really is!
That terrace on the roof through that bathroom is such an insanely cool feature. Loads of plants, a fire place, just need a few chairs and maybe a littke charcoal grill and you can entertain guests to an extent, or just make it your own private rooftop complete with a solid view of the skyline. Really cool little place here.
The integration of the balcony was s great idea it really elevated the appartment!!! Very nice place, considering the small space and the shape of it.
I would have put a couch in the living room, but other than that really cool apartment!
i would go for two comfortable lounge chairs. They could be placed like the chair in the video while being as comfortable as a couch
A curve couch or something near the window of the balcony probably that's where I would wanna keep it
@@RcsN505 I was thinking the same thing. Maybe folding papasan chair(s)?
I agree, Anthony. I just wouldn’t want to live somewhere without a couch or a couple of comfortable chairs for reading, conversing or watching television. Other than that, it was a wonderful transformation.
This one is brilliant. Often "great architecture" is just a cover for what is really an "expensive showoff", but this one is just the opposite. A lot of intelligence and very little cost.
This space is absolutely gorgeous and they did a great job making it functional. I love the roof top area
I love there is more exterior than interior. It’s a good way of life, specially in this sunny city
I love this small apartment! Great work on a very challenging floor plan! I’m really impressed that they got permission for that scope of work with this balcony - most likely not possible in Europe. My mind blew up when I saw there is more cool stuff (roof top)!
Such a unique space. I was impressed with what was done to it.
They've done such a great job with an unusual floor space. That roof top area really would create a bit of sanity saving space, it would be interesting to see how it develops in terms of livability after a few years. I think I'd use that area a lot. Personally I'd need the bedroom space to double as a nice sofa somehow - maybe with strategically placed cushions and a tv on the opposite wall. I like the effect of the perforated, white metal on the balcony (despite it not being as street pretty), I'd be interested in a similar idea in an area of my own house - especially if it makes it less wet.
Oh wow! Closing in the balcony but making that whole wall full of windows completely changed everything about the apartment. There is so much light now and it feels so much bigger! I can really imagine too how nice it would be sitting at that computer desk and looking out onto the street while you work. Awesome job.
(I just hope random people can't get up to the roof and look at you through the skylight while you're in the shower, haha)
Que casa más bonita llena de luz, buen gusto y sorpresas . Lo del baño increíble jajaja no se ve nada chico o apretado , me encantó felicidades por el gran trabajo
Marvelous episode. The architect firm was amazing. I think we need more extended version of this episode including time frame and costs because we have a difficult time now with our economy and this is an spectacular example of what can be accomplish with such few resources at our disposal. Thanks a lot from Argentina.
Rooftop terrace amazing!!! 😍
The ladder in the shower was like a plot twist. Mind was blown.
This is awesome 😍😍😍😍!!! I love the new integration of the balcony it adds so much light and makes the room much bigger 😍! And omg this terrace 🙊😱!
We’re equally impressed ! 😍
Chacarita: mi barrio favorito del mundo.
What a beautiful space! The redesign of the balcony is genius.
THAT SHOWER IS SO SICK OH MY GOD!!!!! Beautiful. Bravo.
The way in which the spaces were reorganized, shows how easily furniture can be added and that it helps with the use of each space, everything is thought in a way where things are given double use.
Very smart. What I like is a lot of light in the flat. The idea with the metal perforated screen I've never met before.👍
It could be putting pillows for comfortable seating
I was not expecting that rooftop! So magical!
Its gorgeous and all that outside space right in the middle of the city.
I love non-square/rectangle apartments. I like seeing what designers come up with when forced to think outside the box.
Yes! 🙌
It's incredible what the architect did with the space! The only thing that could be a challenge is the ladder - I imagine taking things up to the roof like food, drinks, plants, lights or even chairs can be difficult if not impossible.
Love the light!
very challenging floor plan yet the architect made it, absolutely beautiful!
I do really love what they did with the place but curious as to where do they sit when indoors?
No sofa, no armchairs, not even floor cushions or beanbags? It’s like a place you sleep in but don’t ‘chill’ in? Very imaginative though…
super beautiful and perfect for a couple who is very busy, as they obviously don't cook very often. Also, no real seating in the space itself, which is slightly bizarre, but that rooftop is amazing.
I just love the light and the shelving. Just wonderful!
A very inviting space, but the people who live here clearly don’t cook regularly.
Or watch TV, chill in the sofa, invite more than two friends...it looks good but its so unpractical actually
@@markusbg8 I think practicality is a preference according to the individuals needs. *impractical*
They’re probably at home just for sleep and breakfast.
@@markusbg8 It would have been designed according to the clients needs, so it must suit them to not cook much and only use the space for sleeping OR it's an Airbnb like most tiny apartments these days.
@@caheviana the couple is an actor and a lawyer. their work will keep them busy to spend much time at home anyway. but the rooftop is a yes for me! very beautiful
Wow!!! This is really beautiful! Kudos to those people who worked for it to be this beautiful!♥️
What a magical and bright oasis.
I loved the original railing on the balcony…
Great job with such a small space . The integration of the valcony to the living space gives a totally different ambiance. I love the ladder going to the roof. I wish the roof were cozier and inviting though.
This interior is wonderful, but I laughed audibly when he said 'not only does it look great from the street front' and it cuts to this bulging lumpy white mass of metal grates.
I too made an audible giggle at that visual! I had to keep rewinding to see if the top right of the screens were getting moldy/dirty or if it was plants growing over....I still am not sure;)~
Ah haahahahahahaha you made me laugh so hard!! Beautiful and genius from inside though!! 😂😂😂
I thought it looks nice from street front (in comparison to how it looked before). These things are subjective :)
Definitely one of the cleverest designs I've seen on this channel.
Loved it but there didn’t appear to have comfortable seating not sure after day work I want to sit on hard upright chairs
What a gorgeous balcony, they did a great job of incorporating it into the living room!
