I had so much respect for Wanda Cooper Jones. Years ago, when the trial just began, she didn't talk much and let her lawyer or family members do that on behalf of her. Now, she has a firm voice and stands up for what's right. She has become stronger.

When family members and legal officials like in the case of Amber Guyger coddle and empathize with white defendants in cases where black victims have been harmed, we deny justice for the ones to come. Many black people are quick to “forgive” and accept hush payments then “fade to black” and the country make no steps forward in equality in the justice system where our lives mean little to nothing. Former prosecutor and the DOJ shielded and gave leniency to murderers because of their relationships with these men. Being in law enforcement and being white should not deny the community justice. The police came to the scene of a murder, took statements, and then left without the most basic arrests of those responsible. THE ONLY THING that kept them from getting away with it was that video surfaced and went viral, or they'd still be living their lives, free and without even an arrest. We know that there was collusion from higher up the chain and that those people are being investigated...but what about those police who didn't even arrest them initially? Before the release of the viral video, they had not even been arrested. Without that video, the eyes of the nation and the persistence of the family, they never would have been. It's 2022 and for every Ahmaud Arbery there are dozens whose names you've never heard because their murders were not captured on video and the local police force was successful in covering up their murders. They didn't want to go to the prosecutor gave them a plea and they were quick to take it, they even pleaded guilty, what happened is the prosecution went behind Wanda's back and lied to her about what they were giving them, Wanda went and pleaded with the judge not to accept the deal, the prosecutor asked the judge to deny the families request, the judge threw out the plea. had the plea deal been accepted by the judge they would've been living pretty good for the next 30 yrs in a federal prison of their choosing, now if for any reason they win on appeal in the state's trial, they won't go home on bail until the trial begins, because of this conviction they will serve their time in state prison.

Many black people are quick to “forgive” and accept hush payments then “fade to black” and the country make no steps forward in equality in the justice system where our lives mean little to nothing. Former prosecutor and the DOJ shielded and gave leniency to murderers because of their relationships with these men. Being in law enforcement and being white should not deny the community justice.
This case almost never happened because of a system based in white supremacy created to protect people like the McMichaels to the detriment of ALL people of color. It almost worked but this family and social media didn’t allow it.

It's absolutely disgusting that we live in a country where three men can murder a young man in cold blood and then NOT BE ARRESTED FOR THREE MONTHS. The police came to the scene of a murder, took statements, and then left without the most basic arrests of those responsible. They didn't want to go to the prosecutor gave them a plea and they were quick to take it, they even pleaded guilty, what happened is the prosecution went behind Wanda's back and lied to her about what they were giving them, Wanda went and pleaded with the judge not to accept the deal, the prosecutor asked the judge to deny the families request, the judge threw out the plea. had the plea deal been accepted by the judge they would've been living pretty good for the next 30 yrs in a federal prison of their choosing, now if for any reason they win on appeal in the state's trial, they won't go home on bail until the trial begins, because of this conviction they will serve their time in state prison.
This world wouldn't be the same without strong black women like her . 🤭🥲
