Just recently it locked up after putting on a new battery. Angle Sensor has been replaced but this did not change anything. I am just getting the opportunity to start working on this again. Any suggestions?
Hello, there is a problem on my 2008 Honda trx250tm ES fourtrax. the indicator on the display shows a different position compared to the position on the gearbox. for example on the screen it says that the gearbox is in first gear, but the gearbox is actually in neutral and the green light for neutral does not light up. when I press the small handle and the button down to put it in reverse, the green light for neutral comes on and the gearbox is in reverse gear. I note that I can't get the letter R on the screen at all. I changed the angle sensor but everything is the same. Does anyone have a solution?
Mine will shift up but won't fully shift down. Its has a VERY dead battery so..... I run the transmission very hard. Nothing sounds like it broke and it shifts fine manually. Please respond quickly!
I have a Honda Rancher 2006 TRX350TE. You did not show connecting wires to the wires from the shift button box. I have eleven wires here : White / yellow stripe. White / blue stripe. Black / red stripe. According to your directions this last one for a 2006 should be a White / red stripe. I don’t have one that color. Should I use the Black / red stripe instead ? Just wanted to check before I cut wires !
my rancher doesn't make a sound at all when i try shifting. Starts fine in neutral and wont up or down shift. I'm guessing it is the gear switch. If anyone else has any ideas, I already tested the switches in the handle bar, replaced the motor assembly and sensor. 2001 350TE ES

Hey Bubba. Thanks for the videos. You explain the problems and how to fix very well. I have a problem with an 07 Foreman 500 ES. When I bought it one of the problems was it would not shift. Trying to shift manually it was tight and would not move at all. After rebuilding the motor I could shift manually until the clutch cover bolts were tightened then it is just like it was when I got it. Can shift manually until the bolts are hand tightened then it starts to get harder and then stops. It's like something is in a bind. Have checked and rechecked several times. About to wear the cover out taking it off and back on. Have not mounted the motor on bike. Want to get it shifting manually first. Any ideas you have would be much appreciated.
You are the only person I have heard with this problem. It sounds like your reduction gears are jammed, or possibly the clutch release arm is catching on the front cover (maybe backwards?).

Many people have driven through deep water, and regretted it later. Do not be fooled by the youtube videos of ATVs in deep water, because almost all of them have problems after they did that. Ask Honda and they will tell you not to drive through water deeper than 1 foot. The Foreman 500 has as many problems as the Rancher 420, which in both cases is very few. Replacing the computer is very expensive, and it is difficult to remove the old computer and then install the new computer without bending/breaking some of the 50 or so pins. I have one Honda that I could not remove the old computer (without breaking it) because the connectors had glued themselves together with age. Replacing a relay is very cheap and easy.

You probably have an automatic transmission. The ES models have a shift drum in the transmission that will only turn enough to shift one gear at a time.

Honda designed the system so that the computer (ECU) only applies voltage for a quarter second or so. When you bypass the computer, the voltage stays on as long as you press the button. The Timer on the Bypass System (from subzerosound) will only apply voltage for a quarter second (just like the original design).
A shift computer failure usually results in the gear number flashing "--".
