It is unclear if the Super 8 footage used for this video is of the actual phone call or if it shows the moments before the phone call when they were testing the phone and establishing the connection. Since the original film is silent we are not sure. There do not appear to be any moments where the film footage syncs to the audio, so we believe the film footage is of the "rehearsal." The network televised broadcast (also in our collections) does have picture-sound sync.

I am absolutely flabbergasted at the absurdity from 0:36 to 045. 1) The "space camera" is floating about 15 feet or so in the air according to the first scene that shows the window very high. 2) These cameras were not magic, really think about it, they made film that can withstand -250F to 250F, that is no ordinary film, yet NASA "mistakenly" erased the original moon landing tapes!? Does a 500F film blend in with ordinary film? No way this custom footage was mistaken for regular. 3) From the outside of the craft the vantage point is gently zooming in, but the inner window view pans to the left with a manual zoom that does not match the outside craft exposing the framed craft being a composite and the windowed video being filmed by a different camera. 4) No wonder they "lost" this footage, they only have the digital restorations or broadcast footage. An intensive search of archives and records concluded that the most likely scenario was that the program managers determined there was no longer a need to keep the tapes - since all the video and data were recorded elsewhere - and they were erased and reused. The data on those tapes, including video data, were relayed to the Manned Spacecraft Center (now the Johnson Space Center), during the mission. The video was recorded there and in other locations; there is no missing video footage from the Apollo 11 moonwalk. The search discovered high-quality broadcast versions of the footage. @@SeanGodos I didn't dispute that, but the data that was lost was from the broadcast, not from the camera inside the LM. As far as I know, the TV camera didn't have any film on it.
From what I have gleaned the film NASA used was standard film with the exception that the emulsion and layers were made slightly thinner as to accommodate more frames per roll: Kodak was asked by NASA to develop thin new films with special emulsions. Three magazines were loaded with 70 mm wide, perforated Kodak Panatomic-X fine-grained, 80 ASA, b/w film, two with Kodak Ektachrome SO-168, one with Kodak Ektachrome SO-121, and one with super light-sensitive Kodak 2485, 16,000 ASA film. Nobody calls the ISS using a 4G smartphone. The technology used to communicate with the ISS is basically unchanged since those days. The only difference is that the signals these days are usually encoded digitally, instead of analogue. Back then, the phone would connect through the phone lines via telephone exchanges to one of the deep space network radio dishes, which would be used to send and receive all communications (voice and telemetry) to and from the moon. These days a mobile phone would connect with radio to a cell tower, which would then connect by wires to a telephone exchange and from then on it's basically the same until they get to one of the manned spaceflight network stations which are used to communicate with the ISS.
@@mattcoffee1269 Actually it's 460,000 miles since the message has to go from the earth to the moon and then the reply has to come back. This happens at the speed of light though, 186282 miles per second. It is unclear if the Super 8 footage used for this video is of the actual phone call or if it shows the moments before the phone call when they were testing the phone and establishing the connection. Since the original film is silent we are not sure. There do not appear to be any moments where the film footage syncs to the audio, so we believe the film footage is of the "rehearsal." 1) The "space camera" is floating about 15 feet or so in the air according to the first scene that shows the window very high.
This scene is clearly being broadcast live but I can not fond this exact footage anywhere else meaning it's censored to keep us in the dark.
The film that was accidentally erased was from the TV broadcast, not from the Data Acquisition Camera.
@@oscarin13 www.nasa.gov/feature/not-unsolved-mysteries-the-lost-apollo-11-tapes
"NASA searched for but could not locate some of the original Apollo 11 data tapes - “original” in the sense that they directly recorded data transmitted from the Moon.
NASA worked with Lowry Digital, a premier film restoration company, to process the video using techniques unavailable in 1969. The restored video was released in HD as part of the 40th anniversary of Apollo 11."
Statements from NASA themselves. I'm sure they only managed to "loose" the cartoon portions
@@SeanGodos I didn't dispute that, but the data that was lost was from the broadcast, not from the camera inside the LM. As far as I know, the TV camera didn't have any film on it.
@@oscarin13 Accidentally?.......................................................................ok, right.
From what I have gleaned the film NASA used was standard film with the exception that the emulsion and layers were made slightly thinner as to accommodate more frames per roll:
Kodak was asked by NASA to develop thin new films with special emulsions.
Most might think that at such freezing temperatures the film substrate would become brittle, crack, and tear apart like it does on Earth, but do to the "Luck of Apollo 11" everything went perfect.

7 sec delay calling to the moon using landline.. meanwhile in 2018, 10sec delay using 4g smartphone into iss.. damn.. they must have very advance technology back then.
@@ChrisCooper312 so 6 second delay for 230,000 miles in 1969....cool story
@@mattcoffee1269 Actually it's 460,000 miles since the message has to go from the earth to the moon and then the reply has to come back. I'm always disconcerted when the organizations that could easily refute the naysayers remain silent on a controversial issue and then act bewildered when conspiracy theories propagate as a result of their silence. Why would they try to explain it to an asshole who wouldn't understand one word of it?

Quite simply it worked by using the normal telephone network to communicate with one of the 3 relay stations around the world that NASA used to communicate with the Apollo craft as the traveled to and were on the moon (and still use to communicate with unmanned probes in deep space).
"'Neil and Buzz, I am talking to you by telephone from the Oval Room...This certainly has to be the most historic telephone call ever made from the White House.'
"Those words marked the longest-distance telephone call ever made.
"With millions of people throughout the world listening by way of television and radio, President Nixon talked for two minutes to astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin on the moon's Tranquility Base.
"Connections at both ends were clear as the President, speaking from a standard green phone, conveyed mankind's congratulations on the lunar feat. One and a half seconds later, man's first call to the moon reached the headphone sets of the astronauts.
"The call traveled an estimated 290,000 miles one way -- almost 240,000 of that eaten up by the distance from the planet to the moon, the remainder by the following links: The call went from the White House switchboard to the Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland some 15 miles away, where the call was switched on Bell System equipment to a Long Lines circuit fed into the Manned Space Flight Center in Houston.
"From there, it went by Long Lines circuit to a communications earth satellite over the Pacific. The call was then directed to an Apollo tracking station at Honeysuckle, Australia, and sped on its way to the moon. The next day, President Nixon said, smiling: "I just hope they don‘t charge me a toll on that call."

I am not a flat earther but a truther because the earth is a topographical level motionless plane surrounded by Antarctic shore lines 360 degrees with Antarctica being the highest land on earth containing all ocean waters with some type of firmament above and below us. We don't have access to determine if this plane we live on is finite or goes on for infinitely ..... Go ahead believe in fantasy Santa Claus spinning earth and Richard M. Nixon talking to from Oval Office by analog telephone to the Astronauts on the moon 238,000 miles without any delay in communications is flat out a lie by NASA and it's controllers of this world.!!!!!!!!!! Give me one proof the earth is a globe moving on it's own axis and measuring curvature after 3 miles and with Antarctica at the bottom of the world upside down without using NASA or mainstream science as your go to answer, Good Luck!!!
try hard question... apollo 11 = the ultimate greatest superb ultra wonderful epic legendary miracle mission of mankind ( nasa alway said like that ) but 55 years passed...why never even 1 rover send back to
" APOLLO LANDING SITE ??? " 🤔🤔🤔 ( or we have area 51 on the moon ?)
The XX century joke
2:03 It's true there's a "photograph" of "Earth" taken from the "Moon" on the wall.
Apollo 8.
From lunar orbit.

What would be the point of sending a rover to any of the Apollo landing sites?
Did any one notice the picture of the earth from the moon already on the wall before they got home?
The picture from Apollo 8 taken on a previous mission 6 months earlier, yes. You cracked the case.
I can't get service in mountains not but 1 hour from where I live, yet people believe this guy has service on the moon ? Blah hahahahahaha 🤣 😆
