    Philosophy is an attempt to understand the world around us and the reasons for it and us and the things that we do. A lot of it can be introspective and deals with questions as to the ideal society and the motivations of people and why they do things. Whilst I like philosophy there exists a caveat within it for me as a central issue:
    Namely, Philosophy can encourage apathy as regards too much thinking and not doing, or not putting ones thoughts into a physical manifestation in the real world, this is of course where philosophy can encounter the realms of politics, economics and sociology. But I find for my own introspective analysis that philosophers as a whole tend to to be sterotypically disconnected with real world issues and more focused on spouting platitudes and stoking their own egos. An idea is nothing if not acted upon, Plato took no action to create his republic of ideal guardians, Machiavelli espoused his theories but did not connive and manipulate to put them into effect, Locke took his notions of a liberal or liberated society of freedom but did he campaign for it, did he issue speeches or create a movement or cause to do so? One may of course retort that he practised it by allowing others to do as they do, to which I say the ideal or idea not put into affect is nothing, and less than nothing it detracts. I may have the idea of making a sandwich to appease my hunger, but without the inclination or will to do so i shall remain hungry.
    Buddha drew an interesting parallel here when he described a person shot by a poisoned arrow, he states that the man could enquire from whence direction the arrow came, where it was made, what it was made from, who shot the arrow, what is the poison etc etc, but only by dealing with the arrow, i.e. by acting upon it can he affect his life. Thus whilst I admire philosophy and love it myself, I find that most take no action from it, worse they may become armchair philsophers, worse still they may stoke their own egos and platitudes and lastly they may, surrounded only by followers lose touch of the real world they once tried to understand. Wisdom can therefore be a snare, for it is not a conclusion that is important, indeed only dead fish swim with the stream but the evermore exploration and continuance of the journey, once one reaches a definite conclusion and no longer takes an action, is it not that he/she is indistinguishable from the corpses of those laid to rest in previous generations? he/she that states that they now know truth are thus now nobody, for they have stopped action, thus it is that to know, or truly know is to know that you know nothing and thus one lives by continuing on the journey of trying to understand. Philsophy is therefore a journey, for which the action of walking that path IS the aim, the quaint phrase: It is not the destination but the journey that matters springs to mind.
    Ugh....you now have me getting philosophical...ah well, here's to more understanding and more wisdom. Have a nice day anyone who reads this.

    It is not that the philosophical questions are unanswerable, it is just that each time we find an answer to a topic, the topic gets recategorized from "philosophy" to "science." Hence, the topics which we think fall into the category of philosophy continue to shrink further and further as time moves on.

      +Physics Videos by Eugene Khutoryansky No, for example, for for something as basic and generally accepted as "atoms exist" i can think of a few arguments to justify that atoms do not, by necessity, exist; by adopting an anti-realist philosophy (like kantian transcendental idealism), others can see in Descartes the greatest argument for solipsism or the belief that i can only proof that "I" and only "I" exists and nothing else. Nothing is safe from philosphy, everything can be thought by philosophy.

    For me, the best definition I've ever come across for philosophy was "the activity of trying to work out the right way to think about things." The keyword in that definition is "activity," because part of what makes philosophy so rewarding is engaging with the ideas of different philosophers and interrogating our own ideologies and biases in order to better ascertain whatever the truth is. If all we're doing is learning what others have said and simply repeating it, then we're little more than contemporary sophists.

    • @AbhishekRaj-us5vv
      @AbhishekRaj-us5vv 9 лет назад +1

      +Anurag Kumar it is philosophically wrong to assert to assert that anything exists absolutely. correct way is to say that such a thing exists at some definite time at a definite place. if you have existed for a moment and the moments are true then in some sense you exist infinitely. imagine life like a collection of moments in the form of pictures. in the grand reality all moments are true that is all events or facts of this universe are eternal.

    Philosophia (n) - love of wisdom
    Philosophy - the academic study of anything
    Evolved to
    Philosophy - way of thinking about questions - BIG questions
    Three Main Branches of Philosophy:
    1. Metaphysics - branch that studies the nature of reality
    2. Epistemology - branch that studies the nature and scope of knowledge
    3. Value Theory - i. Ethics - branch that studies and evaluate human conduct
    ii. Aesthetics - branch that studies beauty

    Well done grounded insight into 'philosophy'. As a yogi who spent time in solitude and caves to find the wholeness of truth, I look back at my initial quest of seeking as a school kid- as 'philosophy' in reading Betrand Russel, Krishnamurthy etc. Later, in my inner journey, I was guided within with the question of my Guru "Why do you look outside you when it is all within you- waiting for you? " To awaken the light within through loud silence and stillness of thought, the effortless of wisdom from 'knowing' was simply the flow. Its good to seek, question, ask and ultimately seek within to know the vastness within. Meditation is the first step to unravel the inner journey. Consciousness is the fruits of the quest that aligns science to wisdom. Aum

      @Kelzeck No. It helps us realize what we are. The only way it would be possible for us to have no questions and no arguments is if we were all of the same mind, and the world was much simpler and our minds much, much more complex so we could truly understand everything. But then the world would also be much less interesting, and who the heck wants that?

    I'm so happy. I found your videos last night. I cried with happiness for the first time in 5 years. Never thought I would see objective thinking be so popular. Since I was a kid I was swayed in this direction by events that were supposed to happen. of course my only challenge is other people's world views. Not saying you're promoting any thing in your videos, cause you're not. You are providing people with the chance to think more through multi tired research. Me I wanna help make society recognise things (have general overview and knowledge) about social constructs, entertainment, research and politics. That way we'll live in a world with less judgement and punishment and more freedom. *sigh* I'm just feeling so overwhelmed by information, and existence. I just wish I could have what I want, a world of people who don't attack or ostracise each other based on biased information and social power and tradition. But look to fix problems. I know ultimately it isn't of most significance. But... It is significant to me and I hope I can go through with all I imaging doing. of course I know I don't have magical, unexplainable free will and every action I make is reacting to another action in the millions beyond what I can comprehend at a time. But I feel hatred for general society and people's mundanity, short sighted views and I want a world where everyone realises the importance of understanding each other for their TRUE happiness and fulfilment.

    • @Linkous12
      @Linkous12 9 лет назад +2

      +The_Ideaist What makes that question even more interesting is the fact that your feeling of "I" (your consciousness) as a unified whole is really an illusion. Everything about we know about the brain points to the idea that there is no single seat of consciousness, that our feeling of "I" is really just an accumulation of separate brain functions. So to speak of yourself as "me" doesn't really match reality, and you from one moment to another really isn't the same person; you just happen to have a solid(ish) line of memories that makes it feel that way.

    • @jack_the_sparrow
      @jack_the_sparrow 9 лет назад

      +Matthew Davis I disagree with the "you from one moment to another really isn't the same person" statement. There are persistent characteristics that people have that make that person THAT person their entire life, (whether it be looks or behavior or whathaveyou). And you seem to be of the notion that physicalism is the most probable reality in regards to us as subjects of experience, but it's still not necessarily true and dualism shouldn't be discounted. There still could be immaterial and non-physical substances that make us the subjects of experience we are. Or at least me who I am.

    • @Linkous12
      @Linkous12 9 лет назад

      Jack Sparrow After reading back I feel like I should rephrase the statement: something more along the lines of "you aren't *necessarily* the same person moment to moment". I think that's closer to what I'm getting at.
      And while I suppose I agree dualism can *never* be discounted fully, there is, however, absolutely no scientific support for it.

      Philosophy is probably the most multidisciplinary field ever. It is still true that a huge amount of philosophers (expecially the more recent ones) do not see the scientific method as sound. A lot would even argue that logic is not the true path to truth.

    Let me add one for you: people say that God isn't real because we have science, but what if science is just a way of explaining God's creations that we put in our own words

    • @vigilant_2731
      @vigilant_2731 5 лет назад +94

      People often view religion as being in opposition with science. I on the other hand view them as conjoined. Religion tells you what God did and in some cases why but science tells you how God did something.

    • @typhoonic
      @typhoonic 5 лет назад +27

      No, no one says god isn't real because we "have" science, but because science is often incompatible with those people's god. I.e - there's tons of reasons the story of Noah makes no sense.
      God is just a philosophy, not science, and philosophy is mostly just old white dudes jerking off to each other's ability to read into something like every other easily manipulated person because no one is immune to brainwashing. That's why propaganda and advertising work.

    • @zonkeymaker
      @zonkeymaker 5 лет назад +11

      Vigilant 27 okam’s Razor. We say that god exists because we exist, however does science exist because we exist? Can science exist without us? Can god exist without us?
      We see that our lives don’t need god except for the explanation of our beginning, which is a question science is on track to explaining. Therefore god doesn’t need to exist for us to exist.

    • @zuzabielen3621
      @zuzabielen3621 5 лет назад +7

      so why it is said that the acts of God are unexplainable as well as him itself is, while science unveils more and more secrets of the world around us?

    • @hedgeearthridge6807
      @hedgeearthridge6807 5 лет назад +21

      To say "God doesn't exist, because of science" is like saying "Orthodontists don't exist, because of braces". Science would be God's creation. You can't logically state that the Creation disproves a Creator. You can't use the Physical to disprove the Spiritual.

    For almost as long as I can remember, I've loved philosophy. Thinking about questions that can't be answered, and thinking about the greater meaning of life. But getting so deep into these questions, and thinking maybe about how our existence might actually not be what we think it is is scary, and sometimes, unfortunately, causes me to shun it. I think we all need a healthy dose of science and philosophy, but I need to not overdose on one or the other, because too much of one can make me spiral into an extremely uncomfortable worry-sphere.

    “In philosophy basically you’ll try to knock down what you think you know about a particular view of the world and you’ll do this whether you agree with the view or not. Why? Because only when you challenge your understanding of how some people view the world, can you decide for yourself if theirs is a view worth having.”

    I first watched this series while playing super Mario odyssey, and now certain levels in it are associated in my brain with the philosophical topics I had been learning about while I played them. Like, the part in new Donk city where you drive away from the t-rex makes me think of the philosophy about what rules we should obey for society to function. And likewise, when people mention that type of philosophy, I think of t-rexes. It’s weird.
