Magnet Fishing On The Potomac River

- Magnet fishing from my motorized kayak on the Potomac river seemed like a good thing to try. So I journeyed out into the river current for an adventure and magnet fishing good time. I stopped at several sites to include an old ferry, old bridge, several dumps and even a colonial era iron furnace. I was recently sent a powerful magnet by an Amazon seller "Wukong" to test and on this trip I learned just how powerful this new magnet really is. Here is an affiliate link to the magnet I used in this video. www.amazon.com...

Good Lord, are you magnet fishing in a diesel engine german submarine?! LOL! Great video. 👍👍
I just love that motorized kayak boat!!😍🚣♂️👍
Yep sweet and well loved
@@auston911it's a NOKAI cost 5600 dollars basic with the water jet engine
I want one 👍
I can't afford the $5600 on up though 😳
@@kayesdigginit1519neither can I
A less expensive route; kayak w/ trolling motor & deep cell battery.. Not ideal, but it'll work..
Hmmm, I thought one of the unwritten rules of magnet fishing was, if you pull junk out, you take it to shore to help clean the waterways? Am I wrong?? Oh and @ 9:33 that is the locking ring that holds a truck tire on the rim.
No matter what it is. You pull it in with your mag, you take it home.. keep the waters clean~
It was your "magnetic" personality that attracted me to your adventures, Beau. Keep 'em coming!
Yay- 2 videos in one day! Thanks, Chig!
You should of went over to the sewer outlet to see if any brown trout were jumping
It's sad that the river is so polluted.....
You prolly dont care but does someone know of a trick to log back into an instagram account..?
I stupidly forgot my password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me.
@Conor Christopher instablaster ;)
I think u should throw out lots of nuts and bolts as ground bait .that will bring the big metal in
Hahahahaha. Chum.
You can tell Chig is just not a car guy. That first thing he pulled out by the train bridge/bottle dump was the ignition coil off a car.
Yeah lol. But he knows something from ww2
@@fearnoevil9365 From WW2? What?
@Barabus Shibooboo I said that because Chigg is full of trivia as well as a decent backing of general knowledge. First time I have seen him stumped.
he is a civil war/cave guy. No problem. I want him to visit Mammoth Cave national park in Kentucky. Our national parks need heroes to visit them and let the public know what treasures they are.
seems to be an automotive theme here.....coils...split rims....sparkplugs....lic.plates..........hmmmm...no small block eng?
We really need teams to go out and clean our water not through it back in the water
Yes, teams in big boats... not a one man kayak, this was a recreational trip, not garbage clean up.
I can only imagine how many tons of trash is in that river
The Aquachigger song is perfect. Nostalgic tune already.
I agree. I really like your song as always!
If you can't catch a catfish with it, maybe you could come up to the N.W. and catch some STEEL head with that magnet. :) :)
Hey Chig !...Try an old flounder fishing technique "Bottom Bouncing". Drift in your boat with the magnet straight down. Then as you drift a foot or so raise the magnet off the bottom and then drop back down. This will let you cover a long run quickly...The Old Timer
You just made me, the Happiest I've been in a long long time, Wow. Love watching and learning from you.
I am disappointed that The trash was discarded back in the water. This was a great opportunity to show benefit as opposed to another litter repeat.
Anchors away! Great find Chigg, glad you weren't skunked! Always nice to see you out on the rivers, or woods too for that matter. You always have a keen sense of adventure. Thanks for all your efforts. Have a grand day!
that anchor is a great find. It is just the right size to double as a grappling hook. As to that knife, any major American made knife might carry the same guarantee.
A shame the rivers are so polluted.
Granite and then he dumps all the stuff back in.
Keep a plastic putty knife with you to keep the magnet clean
3:48 "Don't mean to laugh but, I have found drowning victims."
Wait WHAT???
@@CamaroZ28Nut3 Man, maybe geocaching isn't the right hobby for me...
@@charonsferryold I've geocached for 11 years and never found anyone deceased yet. Though I've mostly cached in the desert southwest. 🤷
Dang. I know he was joking about Ricky in the videos 😳😱
You must be new here LOL
Sadly, yes when around the water, or venturing through the woods enough you definitely encounter situations you would rather not.. but I guess someone has to do it.
A day outside, regardless of finds, is worthwhile. The anchor was a nice find, though.
Nice! Good job! I tried I’m a kayak yesterday … it was harder then I thought it would be! But it was fun!
Watching you with your motorized boat and magnet fishing makes me want to do the same. Never done such a thing but you got to start somewhere.
Wow that current is so fast and the size of those fish towards the very end...they're huge. Nice video!
they look like catfish
love your channel dude its such a relaxing peacefull break from normal youtube dramatics. plus ya find all this awesome stuff this would be so much fun to do.
I remember seeing you on TV in the UK exploring rivers. Nice to see you here 👍🏻
Thanks for checking out my videos.
That was cool, especially that we used to toss everything unwanted into the water. Even a fox won't defecate in it's own hole.
hey chig! that melted glass from the furnaces that you found at the end is actually hardened lava from about 300 million years ago. I found some on the ohio river and thought they were fossils but an archaeologist said that stuff formed when lava met water
They call that melted glass “Blue Stone” in Northern Michigan.
Chig....you just missed Al Capone's other safe!!!
Beau that is MOAB of magnets 🧲!!! Stuck to that I-beam and pulled it right up!!!!!😲 Don’t pat any attention to those who were telling you to keep all that iron!!! Over time it will of course disintegrate into nothingness!! Guess corrosion is not taught in school anymore!!! 🙄 Love your river videos👍👍👍
Magnet fishing....smile..... Love it!! Go Chigg
5:13 that's an ignition coil from a car or truck. They're filled with oil, that's why it was leaking.
He should have thrown it on the bank then, rather than throwing it back in the water. Sorry but him throwing trash back in the water really irked me. I know he knows better.
There’s is no chance in the world it’s a coil pack! Hell u couldn’t even see it properly
Could be anything
@@nickjeffrey8050 It's absolutely a coil. Not a "coil pack" just a good old fashioned ignition coil from an old car or truck.
@@sweetsierrablues5095 we all know it irked you, just as much as your comments irked pretty much everyone on here.
Thanks for the vids chigg! 😁
9:23 must have been a prehistoric horse :)
The Potomac has fossils and arrowheads if you’re ever looking for anything even older.
Yet another great video keep them coming please.
Have you considered that the tiny iron-based rocks pulled up might be micro-meteorites?
Only about 1 in ten million are
@@charlesjohnson5429 he probably picked up about 10 million
The "oil filter" was an ignition coil (@5:30)
I just got one can't wait to try it out. I live in Montgomery county, MD
Fun! Show us your boat and tell us about it. 9:33 that is a ring off of a split rim wheel.
He has a few vids on the boat, check in the channel.
The 3/4 of a circle thing is actually the nose ring from Paul Bunyan’s Babe the Blue Ox. 😁😉
Enjoy walking along the Potomac river here in Loudoun County Va.
Majestic ending
Hi Chigs,...great vid as usual,...just an observation on the style of magnet your using; being fixed at the top, its great for dunking when you are over or above it, but, when you drag the magnet it straightway falls on its side, where there is the weakest force. the best way to use them \ have found is to fix a rope to the side so that you actually drag the face of the magnet over the mud/sand whatever. What do you think?? stay safe.
I do not blame Beau for the rubbish, nor do I expect him to be the River Janitor or Caretaker. Beau is someone who takes us there, shows us what is there and points out the conditions, the environment, the weather ( good & bad), the Flora ( e.g. poison ivy) and fauna ( e.g. fire ants). He’s not there as a stand in housekeeper of the wilderness. When detectorists dig, they haul out more junk & rubbish than treasure, at least when I dig, I do. When I walk in the forest or on the beach, I have a bag for the random rubbish I find. Not much, but the odd bits. Before you start on other folk, make sure you are squeaky clean. We have a saying in NZ “ take only pictures, leave only footprints”. Adults leave places cleaner than they found them, that is one of the reasons I am a fan of this channel. Shame on you critics. Shame. Go on a Volunteer Cleanup in your neighbourhood before you start on someone else. Honestly. Some folk.🤦🏼♀️🌸
I love the anchor!
I also loved the end with the shots of you cruising along and the theme song playing along in the background! Classic!
GET THE CHIGG GLOVES ON MAN !
I love your videos. Look at that- squirrel ! Reminds me of myself exploring!
Great video Chigger as always. Be safe GOD BLESS
That is an antique Iron that you found next to the bank by the toilet.
Delnita I couldn't believe he threw it back! I have 4, all from antique stores. Even though the handle had rusted off, I would've been happy with that catch
Semicircle is a partial locking ring for a split rim tire.
At 15:06 "Oh that's an old shovel!" Mr.Chigg- You are the fastest iron ID-er on RUclips! You can barely tell what that rusted, hole-filled piece of flat iron is! but The Chigg knows. He knows!
Great hunt Chigg. Would have definitely kept that Soda bottle.
Straight side bottles like that are normally circa 1905 to 1915.
Some go for 100.00 to 300.00 dollars.. Coke Cola being the more collectable. keep up the great work and see ya on the next
Why are you throwing the "junk" back in the water? Love ya chigg, but damn!
Sherri Dominick I agree he should bring it home and put it in the bin
Well on that small boat he probably doesn’t have room to bring home couple hundred pounds of scrap metal.
@@ninjaethan4558 he can carry out what he catches or throw it on the bank. If he's willing to pack out a 50lb cannon ball or a 7lb ax head he can carry out a 2lb ignition coil filled with oil.
@@adamgorman1503 or at least throw it on the bank. Someone like myself walking along the bank, would find it and pack it out later.
Geeeze all you leftists spandex wearing granola munching greenies make me sick. When is the last time you all went out and cleaned up a river?
So Chig, what should I get, an AT Pro or an AT Max? Last 36 years I've used an ADS III with quite a bit of success, buts its getting to heavy for these old bones.
I doubt he will answer you but I will. I bought a AT Max late last summer and since then I have found an entire table full of artifacts, civil war buckles, rosettes, crossed guns, buttons, 2 cannon balls, bullets, 1800's silver coins, copper coins, colonial items, spurs, etc. I love the Max! I have not owned the Pro, but the Max fits me perfectly and the headset of the Max is not hard wired to the machine unless you are water hunting.
Still loving the kayak
Something Something is the split ring off a semi tire
That looks like the I 81 bridge near Williamsport
I've fished along there a few times
It’s sickening, to see all that junk in the river. There needs to be a massive clean up program
Colonial pig iron Ingots could be worth hauling out if you know any blacksmiths. It would be real wrought iron which is getting harder to find.
Amazing how nasty the worlds waterways are. Very sad
What kind of boat is that? Good video!
some big fish at the end
Great vid again.
Enjoyed
What camera do you use for these types of video?
Great video
The water of the 2nd river was a beautiful color. And, Chigg, if you just went out back and fed the cat, you’d never be skunked. You’d find some way to make it an adventure. Stay awesome.
Those "rocks" could be tiny meteorites you should look closer
Nice vid Chigg love the kayak
Woah!! I took a break from watching your videos for a few months and now you have 1m subs. That's insane. Congrats, you deserve it!
@5:02 Its is an ignition coil. They stopped using them is the 90's sometime. The hole in the top is where coil the coil plug wire would go over intp the center of the distributor cap. Where the other end of you spark plug wires went. They use mainly coil packs packs now. With the exception of some high end and performance designs.
I would love your boat!
Nice video, thank you for sharing.
9:28 that is a hoop from a wooden barrel. that's a neat find people collect those things.
I thought it was off a 55 gallon oil barrel.
Enjoyed watching.
Cool boat
Those poor fish scrambling scared for life. Ouch.
That was a coil it is used around the distributor! Makes the spark plugs work!
Speaking of the Potomac, Im currently on assignment in Fairfax Va but Im renting a place of the Bethesda/Rockville line. Have to cross the Potomac every day. Traffic is a bitch up here.
Alright Trevor
Normally I don’t see anything negative on your videos however I’m a little disturbed at the fact that you were throwing the trash back in the river would it not be a better idea to Bag it and take it out. I know you can’t take it all out especially when you’re on a boat but a bag of it at a time would help the environment just saying.
alfster1969 - there's just too much trash and I'm sure he needs the room for his desirable items.
Can ya magnet fish from the banks of the potomac ?looks to me like its all park&rec.or do ya got to be in a boat.
We call them "Penny Farthings", according to American Pickers, you call them "High Wheelers", either way, was that old round thing the outer part of the smaller wheel from one of those old bikes ?
Suggestion. 15:26 -15:30 put a piece of swimming noodle (float) on the end of your rope and tie a quick release type knot. You can untie the rope in a hurry and then go back and retrieve the float. Hopefully keep you from flipping.
Why didn't you use your new anchor that you found to hold your position in the river?
Oily find was an old school coil for an automobile...
Great video thank you Chigg. The first river was super nasty what a shame!
Take a plastic bottle that your magnet will fit in bottom . Cut the container down run your rope through the top glue the top and bottom together. After you pull what ever junk pull the container down and all the junk falls off .
Worth a try. thanks
All arguments aside of who should pick up what and who is right or wrong about it, this video highlights what we ALL as humans have done to our planet and how ashamed it makes me. Let's face it... we are all CONSUMERS with a less than stellar history of protecting our environment. All the Chig is doing is demonstrating what we have done. No need to shoot the messenger.
Dear RB, thank you, just what I was trying to say. But you said it better. We are ALL responsible, and should ALL do something. Even just little things. Recycling, reusing, repurposing... old refrains. Saves money too! I’m just an old European living in a new country who wants to leave a better world for my children - and who does not believe that it can be solved by throwing money at it.
You have fun and live life at the same time nice
What Appears To Be a Don't Know was an automotive coil. The "Giant sumthin sumthin I believe was a drum sealing ring.
I was guessing a lock ring for a split rim
What is going on with the like button. Its not counting likes any longer 300+ views and I cannot be the first like? Thanks for another great video Chigg.
IKR, glad it's not just me though.
Same, and not the first video either.
Same, something with the last youtube update? Fuckin idiots at RUclips!
That big ring thing is part of a locking ring for a semi-tractor tire. They don't use them anymore in the US because their dangerous.
Look in the anacostia river next, im sure there is plenty of guns in there
Use the anchor.🤣
