Going back here after 10 years! I remember seeing her debut stage and thought her voice was so new and that she looks so cute... I was 13 😂 Glad to see her still thriving after all these years
Seeing this now, it's amazing how Lee Hi has improved on her acting skills by a whole lot. She is now much more confident and natural in her music videos :D Watching her in I'm Different makes you wonder how could've she been so awkward back then lol
She does look a lot more polished in the few recent appearances we've seen. But then her acting and the polish of her performance were already perfect in the "It's Over" video too (March 2013), which was made just a few months after this one. When the 1234 video was made, she was of course a complete rookie at doing MVs at the time. But it was really the decision of the MV producer/director to have the MV concept for 1234 video depict her as an "awkward rookie" taking her first steps in moving from the mean streets into show biz. As a result, the "awkward rookie" image was attached to her, but it seems likely that the producer actually intended to really exaggerate that image. It wasn't really true even back then that she had no confidence or that her acting skills were less than any other debuting artists. (in fact, she really was at least above average for a debuting artist). It was the way the producer/director made the MV that caused many viewers to think that she really was awkward and more rookie-like than most, when actually that was just the role she was playing in the MV. (Kind of how actors who play villains in TV dramas or movies are often perceived as really being villains when they're innocently walking around in real life.) Most debut MVs are, by comparison, very heavily edited to make the performer look much more polished and smooth in their acting than they really are. This 1234 video was edited from the opposite approach.

***** Her album was one of the best selling female solo albums in Korea for the year and contained three songs that were number 1 on the charts. This song here dominated all the major charts for nearly an entire month. The fact that she hasn't done anything since then is not a reflection on her. It's a reflection on the company that she's signed with, which is notoriously constipated and often puts its artists on ice for years at a time. It's especially bad at promoting female solo artists. It will spend years promoting its boy groups with special tv reality shows, etc. But does very little for its female solo artists. ------------------------ I was hoping that would change when Lee Hi signed up with them--especially since she won several awards, began getting collaboration offers from big-name stars and was nicknamed the "monster rookie" by the Korean media. But..fast forward more than two years since her album came out and it's looking pretty grim at the moment. I'm still hoping she'll be releasing a comeback album sometime in the near future. She's probably already recorded enough material for 2 more albums, but her company's just sitting on her album project (as well as just sitting on her generally), while the CEO works on other projects, including the promotion of two new boy groups, which has pretty much been non-stop for the past 18 months.
Kile Ellis Yes, it seems like her ear for music is also good for picking up languages. I'm sure that if she focuses on it, she could record several songs in English and listeners who didn't know her would never guess that she's not a native speaker of English.
***** What kind of a stupid question is that?? I'm a fan of a singer (who happens to be 19 now, not that that is relevant to anything). If I like someone's singing, I don't care what age they are. A better question is why are you always posting hate comments and insults about a girl that you think is a 15 year old kid? Do you have a mental problem? An inferiority complex? Just go fanboy (or fangirl?) over your precious Sunny -- and use as many sock puppets as you want. If you dislike Lee Hi so much, why do you spend so much time visiting her videos?
Actually, I think she proved in her "It's Over" MV that she has no problem performing really well for the camera. To the extent that there is awkwardness in this M/V, I place 95% of the responsibility on the M/V director. They took a brand new, very young artist and gave her the difficult task of carrying every scene from beginning to end. There's not even 1 moment in the video that she's not in focus and in the camera lens from beginning to end. (Additionally, in the editing process, they seem to have intentionally left slightly awkward bits in to give a "debut" feel). By contrast virtually all other solo debut performers' videos use a whole range of techniques to make it very easy for the performer. For example, anywhere from 30% to 50% or more of the scenes will be of objects or back shots or stand-in actors, so that the performer's acting is not even an issue. Blur shots, distant shots and rapidly moving camera action are also used to keep viewers from focusing on every step, every gesture and every expression that the performer makes. It's even easier for idol squads because the members all take turns and the director just edits in the best expressions. Each member of a 4-person, 5-person, 7-person, 9-person or even 12-person group only has to actually do any acting close ups for a a few seconds at a time. (In a 12-member group, you can usually add up all the scenes that focus on 1 member and they'll be less than 10 to 20 seconds or less...and you can be sure that they probably filmed 10 times that amount and the director just selected the highlights.) All I can conclude is that YG intentionally wanted this to be an intense learning experience for Lee Hi and to give an "debut" feel to this and they gave her a difficult format that would have been a challenge for even very experienced performers.
She is pretty and her voice is amazing. She kinda sounds like a mix of Meghan Trainor and Adele...i think. She totally deserves WAY more credit than she does now...Fighting!!! :)
I think the producers/editors for this video intentionally did a lot of things to make this look like a "debut" video. I don't really think there is any problem with her confidence. If you look at her "It's Over" video (done just a few months after this), it's easy to see that she's completely relaxed, confident and an excellent performer. I can easily spot dozens of things in this video that could have been polished with simple and quick editing touches. I remember seeing IU's debut video and how it was shot with lots of mist, backshots, focus blurs, scenes of only dancers, etc.. That's the way that debut videos are often handled to make things easy for the main performer. For some reason, however, YG decided not to use any of those techniques to make things easier for Lee Hi's debut video.

Lee Hi really has a powerful voice
this song is such a gooood song, man this girl has soooo much yg potential... i just hope shell get a bit older... and get used to the camera
(In a 12-member group, you can usually add up all the scenes that focus on 1 member and they'll be less than 10 to 20 seconds or less...and you can be sure that they probably filmed 10 times that amount and the director just selected the highlights.)
All I can conclude is that YG intentionally wanted this to be an intense learning experience for Lee Hi and to give an "debut" feel to this and they gave her a difficult format that would have been a challenge for even very experienced performers.

She's still so young like never change
I came here because of Dita Secret Number 😁
I hope she's a bit more relaxed and confident her next comeback.

여전히 정신 못 차려 왜
I’m sick and tired 너의 위선에
어설픈 liar ooh 이제 좀 꺼져줄래
I think I’m going going crazy ooh
I think I’m going going crazy ooh
더 비참하게 굴지는 마
사라져줘 저 멀리
no no Nananananana
구차하게 울지는 마
다 잊어줘 영원히 no no

남 걱정하지 말고 너나 잘 해
니 그런 동정 따윈 필요 없어 uh
I said 1 and 2 and 3 4 ooh
