Scott Bradlee is a fine-but-not-mind-blowing pianist. But he's an absolute freakin' GENIUS at two things: 1) arranging, and 2) finding the right players & singers for his arrangements. PMJ is one of my favorite bands, no matter who's out front or what the song is.
So true, also the sound mixing is studio quality. And youtube is really bad at sound quality, so extra kudos for making it sound good

Morgan James is the most amazing singer I've ever heard! Look her up, she trained at Juilliard as an opera singer!
And she decided that she did not want to sing opera.
It's interesting to listen to singers who trained in opera. As we can hear in this song, Morgan has superb breath control, sustain, vowel placement, etc. Another opera-trained singer (although at a community college, not Julliard) is Avi Kaplan. He was majoring in opera in college, and had been offered a job with the Los Angeles Opera when he was lured into joining PTX for their Sing Off competition. We're lucky that they both chose the paths they're on.

Morgan James is truly a super star performer with vocals to die for. She is one you can not quite take your focus off of, I am a musician, but honestly as great as she was , I heard the band but she took my focus off of them to her, thanks for pointing out the band arrangement creativity . I knew they were great but did not dial them in as you did , thanks for that .

Scott has to be one of the top arrangers practicing today. Every single thing I've heard from PMJ has been, well, dazzling.
The reaction channels that know what they are looking at are so much fun to watch.

The combination of arrangement and performance by all involved make this performance a masterpiece! Your ability to appreciate and breakdown the nuance in the music makes this one of the best reactions to PMJ I've ever seen. Excellent video!
Breathtakingly beautiful - can't remember how many times I've heard this from Morgan (and PMJ are JUST as good live!) They have some amazing singers who guest on the covers that Scott puts together - thank you for an awesome reaction. Found you through Home Free/Pentatonix (am a Penta Fry ;) ) and am really appreciating a music teacher's perspective on it all - Would LOVE you to listen to Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, Run to You or Mary did you know by Pentatonix or Washed in the Blood by Home Free (you've already done Mayday ^*^). Morgan James has such a clear and powerful voice...and WOW can she hold those long notes...like 8 seconds... and she puts her whole sole and body into the song.....and yes all of the musicians are also the best!!!

This is what happens when a Juilliard trained Opera singer does a Jazz version of a Rock song... Perfection! You should also check out PMJ with Haley Reinhart doing 7 Nation Army and Creep... Both amazing.
PMJ has a way of taking good, even great songs and turning them into something special!

This is my jam as well. I was in high school when it came out. I learned to play guitar because of this song. It was played at my prom. Depending on my mood, this is equal to the original for my listening pleasure. The arrangement is incredible, the musicians are fantastic, and Morgan James is a goddess! Scott Bradlee has impeccable taste when it comes to vocalists. Robyn Adele Anderson doing Macklemore's Thrift Shop, or George Michael's Careless Whisper, is worth a reaction.

I'm so delighted to share in your enjoyment of this amazing piece of music. Your reactions are wonderful. Morgan James has become a favorite of mine, though I wish she wouldn't release so many home-made pieces that just don't meet the mark - not because of her vocals, just the acoustics and equipment. She deserves the best. I first encountered her when she worked with Haley Reinhardt on another PMJ piece, All About That Bass.

I am surprised that so many of the reviewers of this performance have FAILED to mention how she comes in AFTER the beat sometimes to add to the effect. NOT ONE, that I have listened to.

Another voice teacher commented on Scott's arrangement and the genius of recasting the song in 6/8 instead of the original 4/4.

A PJM singer who doesn't get enough love from the various reaction reaction folks is Kenton Chen. Versatile vocalist with great sense of fun - check out his version of Halsey's "Closer". (He does another song called "Closer" but find the Halsey one with the pink satin dinner jacket.)

Interesting that you noted this song is below Morgan's ability. She is Juilliard trained in opera, has Broadway experience and though she has no desire to continue in opera, she still takes weekly voice lessons in the classical style. She is very good at anything she does but considers herself a soul singer. Her channel is worth a look, she and her husband, guitarist Doug Wamble have put out videos almost daily throughout the pandemic. She also performed a very nice cover of the entire Beatles White Album.

Creep and Seven Nation Army is a must, Then ofcourse some Puddle Pity Party.
There is a reason the singer is front and center. I kept on waiting for her name to be mentioned, as I feel she was kind of important in this performance. She may be even more important than the f'n snare drum. At the end of this reaction, I almost LOL because of how weird it was. I guess you know the vocalist is Morgan james by now. Or maybe you don't.
