I agree. If you do same thing in Usa, they don’t release you before at least couple days. You can’t take the picture or video of any military places in any country.
This is one of the most touristic areas in Turkey and there have been some terrorist attacks in previous years. Therefore, you cannot fly drones in these areas without permission for everyone's safety.
@@mehmetoguzturan that is true but these are police and should be aware everything and they should not allowed to anyone. Turkish people don't know abroad, if they know, they will be more careful.
@@mcdsvrn2561 Ridiculous. Nowhere in the world you can fly drones without permission in tourist areas. Even if a police officer on duty says you can do it, you can't if you simply use your mind. @@netdude1984 You have no clue about Turkish society do you? Here's a lesson: The vast majority, though not all, of Turkish people live by Muslim traditional moral principles and standards that have been there since time immemorial and they are part of the social code of interaction there. I lived in Izmir Turkey for over 2 years (U.S. Military)...my son was born in Adana. The Turkish people are great people...good that you had a Turkish person to help you out.
A bomb exploded in the area where you were shooting in that area before. It is forbidden to fly drones in crowded and touristic areas for national security. The soldiers treated you very well. Turkish soldiers are very kind, smiling and the best soldiers in the world. It would be much worse if you were in another country. Turkish soldiers are very good. It should not see any danger in terms of security. Turkey is a beautiful country, we recommend it to everyone. Safety is important to all of us.
The fact that Turkish polices try to do their job and want to make you not worried about it's nothing serious but a formality is so lovely ( I don't know how do we use formality in english but it's in turkish translated to " formalite " and " formalite" means it's nothing important but you must do it just for obey the laws . For an example ; You're in street and there's someone tried to talk with you and you did . Then he walked a little bit and stole a purse of old lady and disappeared . If the old lady inform police about she saw you and thief together , the police would come and ask you why you were talking with thief . You probably say : " I thought he is a fellow citizen , therefore I didn't suspect anything " . After that police would say : " Okay I gotcha , but you should come with me and we will make a document about that . So it's just for your comfort , because if we do , it will be proof that you're innocent " . Your situation was like that , they took you just because of they are into their job and make a document about you didn't know the rules and you were not a terrorist that tried to make an attack or observation . If you look closely , they were saying the turkish guy in the street that "it's not that big thing but he should come with us for formality. So please translate it " and turkish guy tried to tell that this . I don't think there's no another country that has helpful and emphatic polices as Turkey . Come on, if anybody don't know any european language and did it in Europe , the cop wouldn't try to find a guy that knows your language to communicate with you and make your relax . And if you do it in America, I think they would punch and injure you until they bring you to the police station .
Most European countries have a phone service in police stations that just phoned up and they translate everything for you UK ...But was nice of the bloke .
Honestly, you probably had it coming, and I assure you, you aren't the first. Ever since those stupid things came out American people think they can just fly them everywhere without any consideration for the safety or convenience of others. These things should be illegal EVERYWHERE.

We don't know if the person he's talking to is the police or not. then the other cop tells the drone. that's what we saw. we were looking for when the drone was landing. At that time, we could not determine the place that was flown again. We caught it on the second landing. the third cop says "and he got permission he says"
Dislike a abanmaya gerek yok.
These guys are Jandarma units. However, they deal with similar things like police but, they are not. It used to be branch of military. When they were in room, they didnt talk about you at all, they were saying everywhere was covered by snow when he left his house where is "Kağıthane". As lots of terrorist organization using drones for terrorist attacks which came a big issue in Turkey aswell. If you would like to fly drones over places in Turkey there are some requirements like getting permissions and stuff. Note: I can assure you about Jandarma Forces, in turkey if you did nothing wrong you wont be harmed or ripped of as they are not corrupt at all. On the other hand if you do something wrong these are the guys very difficult to deal.
After he asked about your hometown and weather, the guy translated what you said to others. He says to his chief: We thought we got it down, chief. But after we left, he got it to fly again. Some countries have tourist police that have foreign language interpreters who can intervene when there are misunderstandings like this and hopefully Turkey will one day offer the same courtesy. It's natural to be scared when you don't fluently speak the local language in a situation like you experienced but it's good that you kept calm knowing it was an innocent mistake. In the future, it would be wise to check with the government officials in the area you are visiting before flying your drone and get written permission that you can produce if requested by the authorities. Macar (Magyar) is the actual name of the Hungarians btw, we call them Macar because we are related.
In Turkey if you have drone which is more than 500 grams you have to register it to Civil Aviation Department's system and after that you could easily reach the map that shows the non-permission and permission required areas (Historic Istanbul is almost needs permission) so if you want to take shots in these places you have to apply to Civil Aviation Department's e-mail address to get perm. These places not required perm cuz of military, cuz of terrorism activities we don't want our people or tourist get injured or get killed. Lastly you have one other option, you can go to American Embassy or Istanbul's Governor Building to get permission. By the way the guy who disabled the drone isn't military person he is connect to Interior Affairs that means police force. Actually, all the guys you saw connected to Interior Affairs. When you enter Topkapi Palace from the main gate on the left side there is Hagia Eirini church. across the church, there is a road is going down to the palace. Down the hill, there are huge warehouses of the Turkish Military. That is why army officers warned you. I guess. That belongs to Turkish Defence ministry .
The military staff were actually quite nice. They were talking about the weather(snow) and how they disabled your drone comms. It's normal procedure in mega cities like Istanbul especially the most attracted places. Plus, Turkey has suffered from a lot of terrorist attacks so you should be a bit understanding about the situation. If you read "The Drone Laws" in Turkey online before you fly your drone that would ease your pain :) Just forget it and have fun next time when you get back!
In one of your early Turkey videos, I suggested you to spend some time, maybe six months in Turkey to find out how to dodge trouble in Turkey so you can enjoy being in Turkey better, to be honest I spent 39 years in Turkey and I would have probably gotten into the same situation as yourself, Sir, if I were to fly a drone near the palace, cause I don't know there is a no-drone zone over there. I wish you hadn't had that misunderstanding between you and the police officer about whether you can fly a drone over that specific area. That would have been a lot easier for you guys and the police. Move on !!!
The soldier (Gendarmerie) there asked the person next to her to say, "This is a procedure. This is a no-fly zone. But we will solve this problem easily. No problem, don't worry." It is forbidden to fly such devices without permission in some touristic places, but you can fly them when you get permission.
Big mistake. Let me give you an example to understand the Topkapi palace. The spoonmaker elöas, one of the largest diamonds in the world, is there. There are hundreds of gold and diamond inlaid watches worth tens of millions of dollars. Gift of Queen Victoria, Gift of Archduke of Austria, Gift of King of France... There are swords that are 2500 years old. And there is the golden throne. It is completely gold and decorated with diamonds and ruby all over. . And there are priceless Islamic sacred treasures. You know, things like the holy cross. And there are shields, daggers, swords, pure gold, decorated with hundreds of golden emeralds, rubies, diamonds. It's an incredible place. We're talking billions of dollars in treasure. It's a priceless place. It was a bit silly to fly a drone there 😂😂
Hello bro, I have some questions for you... I've planned to bring my DJI Mini 2 drone to turkey this November, but it's really confusing when I read all those articles and websites regarding drone rules and regulations.... 1) If I want to bring my DJI Mini 2 which weight less than 500g, should I register to apply the technical confirmation from Turkish DCGA before entering the Turkish customs as stated in articles said "according to the Turkish DGCA website, if your drone weighs less than 500 grams, it is not required to be registered, and it is not subject to confiscation from customs officers on entry to the country. Basically, if you want to bring in a drone under 500 grams, you are free to do so with no hassles." 2) Do I need to register as a foreigner to get my drone fly permit? Because this article said that, " According to the Directorate of Civil Aviation in Turkey, anyone planning on bringing a drone to the country must make an application of technical conformity. So as to qualify for submission it must be in accordance with the SHT-IHA Instruction. As a foreigner seek prior approval otherwise the drone will be confiscated." I do hope u reply to this comment and very much appreciated the effort, thanks bro Nice video btw :)
So what happened was basically you were “detained” by Turkish Gendarmerie because you flew a drone over a prohibited area. The drone lost control because they used a drone-jammer (military uses that too) on it. Police officer who told you you can probably didn’t know about drones and no-fly zones very well and that’s his fault. Since there has been a lot of terrorist attacks in the past police and gendarmerie are very cautious at points of interest like Hagia Sophia.
What did you expecting bro ? You flew a drone in historical area of İstanbul. Turkey has rules and laws they have to stopped you. Beside , they are not military personal , they are gendarme
In the first encounter of the police/gendarmarie(i guess) he was actually so much kind, in his tone etc. In the "i didnt knew what they are saying" part they were actually talking about "i got out of home and hang out on the cafe" and stuff. And someone at the end of that clip was saying the commander there that (im not sure what happened so this is my guess) "we warned him about the drone flight but after we went back he flew it again". So let me say this they were actually so fucking kind in that video that made me irritated LOL. If some turkish guy was in there with them they probably go harsh on him. So yea even in the first second it was clear that they didnt want to make you uncomfortable, just wanted to make sure everything is safe and sound. P.S. : After some events this year(some livonian guy i guess insulted the woman police officer saying that send me this woman to my apartment tonight and he didnt get punished) you wont get any trouble if youre not assaulting or doing damages to some places. So if u didnt do any of these just dont worry about anything. Even if u breaking the law but you didnt knew you were breaking it nothing will happen. If police or armed police is taking you or even they are restrain you, nothing will happen if u werent doing some serious shit. And these are never happen to you anyways just %0.001 if they happen you dont need to panic is what im trying to say.
I just watched the rest and you did good with leaving the rug store. He was probably being a little extra hospitable but you never know. Have fun on your travels! :)
Those drone footages were amazing, especially the one of bridge. I'm glad you got out safely. I can understand it's a scary experience to deal with a foreign country's military or police that don't speak the same language. For the record, talking about the weather is one of the ice breakers in Turkey along with where someone is from all the way down to the district if the person(asking) knows enough about it. Also it was the best decision for you to have recorded their discussion, so don't feel bad about that. In Turkey, a drone under 500grams doesn't require a permit to be flown. It's still not allowed to be near airports and military locations. Up to 4kg drones don't require permit in open fields (think of hiking locations and farmlands). Over 500g drones require registeration to SHGM. Police doesn't really bat an eye about small drones. Military is a bit more strict however as you can understand. From espionage to terrorism, there are lots of un-ethical uses for civillian drones that militaries worldwide dislike. I've seen your other videos on Turkey aswell. Glad you enjoyed your stay.

complete misinformation here. Drone under 500grams do not need a registration, but still are not allowed to fly ANYWHERE. Drones up to 4kg do require permit in open fields. This is an Istanbul based film producer and a SHGM licenced drone operator here. facts.

The police officers' conversation is nothing to do with your situation :D that was the funniest part for us but the scariest part for you, anyway I hope you enjoyed your vacation in Turkey
Turkey actually has really strict drone laws.If your drone weights 500 Grams or more you have to get a permit from city officials to fly the drone over istanbul( which in some cases takes a week) If it's under 500 grams you can't get a permit cause it's considered a toy.But if you are just casually flying over an underpopulated area say a beach or somewhere police won't mind it.But a historic mosque which has been protected by special forces? You got some balls.A turkish citizen would probably pay a fee of 9000 liras(1000 dollar) if he/she did what you did.
Actually without permission flying drone is illegal in Turkey. In istanbul air traffic is busy, also terror organisations uses small drones for attacks. So not only above military areas, all city centers are forbidden for drones. Police can fine you from 200 dollars to 2200 dollars if you fly over Turkish city centers without a permission. We Turks also need to been registered to Transport Ministry to take a drone license. We have to stick this license code to our drones. And We have to apply for a permission to fly over cities. And to take permission for such historical places commercial permissions needed, they don't give permissions to personal applications. In Turkey drones are allowed only in urban areas. Police was polite enough not to fine a touristic drone flight. Bu normally he could fine you 2000 dollars to fly over a historical building ))) Also if they could realise that you are recording a video secretly you could have serious problems. Turkey is a touristic country, so military and police is always polite to tourists if they don't feel suspicious that you have undercover intentions. ))
Thats very unforunate but if you are curious of what they are talking, The guy on your left said "he landed (the drone) and we were searching for it, then he lifted again." and the guy in front of you said "yeah but he said he took it (I am assuming he meant the permission from the words)". I guess the problem was with the first police officer which you told you asked for permission. I am assuming either he didnt get it and said yes just to avoid you maybe because of the language barrier and being shy, or you didnt show him the compound region while taking the permission. Either way I am glad that it didnt get serious. Maybe another person can make sure to describe the fotage range very well and make sure that the officer speaks english very well. Also military compunds are not hidden so be aware with the footage is forbidden sign since there should be always a sign if it is forbidden.
Is nobody gonna talk about how he got scared of the carpet salesman who just helped him communicate with the police for 2.5 hours, being friendly and hospitable? He was getting you some tea and you ran away? LMFAO!!!!!!!! pst American boi... psssttt... BOO! XD

FYI for others thinking about flying drones in Turkey, it is not perfectly legal, and the laws seem hazy. I came to Turkey just after you did and the regulations say you have to register bigger drones and they may confiscate it at the airport. Of course many people still bring them in and fly in places like Cappadocia. If flying above mosques and palaces, let alone the centre of Istanbul, you do that at your own risk. Police are just doing their job man, but I can imagine it must have been scary. I found the police to be fine when we were there. Just have to be tactical about where you fly!!

Nah bro, in TR u need to take a permit to fly a drone from SHGM but, in Istanbul, Ankara, İzmir and Muğla, you need permission from governers office or equalivent local office.

Basically, if you want to bring in a drone under 500 grams, you are free to do so with no hassles."
2) Do I need to register as a foreigner to get my drone fly permit?
Because this article said that, " According to the Directorate of Civil Aviation in Turkey, anyone planning on bringing a drone to the country must make an application of technical conformity. So as to qualify for submission it must be in accordance with the SHT-IHA Instruction. As a foreigner seek prior approval otherwise the drone will be confiscated."
I do hope u reply to this comment and very much appreciated the effort, thanks bro
Nice video btw :)
bro its goverments police. theres literally nowhere safer than a police station lol as long as u done nothing wrong.
If a Turk did this, he would be fined 140000 liras. about 900 dollars. I don't know how much better they could have treated you.
This is an Istanbul based film producer and a SHGM licenced drone operator here. facts.
I think they were too patient. Thanks to our law enforcement officers. ❤️ Everything they do is for our safety.
Whats the song at 1:30?
I'm not here to talk about what happened in the video - I've tried it myself (being detained), not fun! I'm here to thank you for your content - I'm starting out myself and you've given me quite a lot of motivation and inspiration. You've earned yourself a sub from me!
Love your description of the day as "moody." The drone footage was phenomenal!
Bu normally he could fine you 2000 dollars to fly over a historical building )))
Also if they could realise that you are recording a video secretly you could have serious problems.
Thanks for d wonderful drone shots. I've never seen Istanbul in winter before this.
4 year not been snow in istanbul only this year but few days after that again sunshine :D
@@kayacenk4164 Wonderful.
Is nobody gonna talk about how he got scared of the carpet salesman who just helped him communicate with the police for 2.5 hours, being friendly and hospitable? He was getting you some tea and you ran away? LMFAO!!!!!!!!
pst American boi...
psssttt...
BOO!
XD
crazy
hahahah says the turk that knows what hes saying right hahahahaha....... Try thinking about it from my stand point, as the video is presented
@@DivertLiving I cant possibly think about the situation from your standpoint, because I wasnt ever subjected to the bashing propaganda that your media and gov. has about Turkey and some other countries. Sad but true, they instill fear as a motivator.
I didn't understand why you were scared. You were shooting in one of the most crowded places of the most crowded city of Europe + on top of a military base. They only questioned you and let you go. Not the best experience of course but just take it as an experience. I hope you enjoyed Turkey overall :)
Thanks for this video n thanks for sharing your experience in Turkey.
Wow , so beautiful to see the scenery in snow and clouds give it a serene look.
Been waiting for this perspective since Chris dropped his video haha! Awesome dude
HAhahah well what do you think!? it was an interesting day for sure
@@DivertLiving definitely a memory that’ll stick 😂
I am a Canadian tourist in turkey and I was arrested because i did not have my passport on me when I was walking down the street to get breakfast so I called my friend and they bought the passport to the officer that arrested me and he said i won’t let him leave then my business partner had connections in turkey and he pulled some strings and the officer was forced by higher authority to let me out and I there was a french tourist he had his id only but it said everything about him unfortunately he was sent to jail so be carefully when you go to turkey
bro they are so many illegal immigrants. Turkish citizens also have to carry their id card with themselves. You can arrest if you don't

I’ve been waiting for this video!
What did you think!
Merhaba! Great video! I love Turkey! I'm sure the pepperoni was different , cause I don't think pork is allowed due to it being a Muslim country. At least when I was there it was not! Their food is amazing and so are the people!
Turkey is not Müslim country.
By the way I love the video. As you said you are extremely lucky to see Istanbul on that snowy day.
edward nurton's doppelganger, love it
Drones are not allowed in some areas.
Great footage of a great city!!!
When was you out there?
I congratulate the Turkish security forces on my behalf 👏 !! There is a law, order and system in Turkey. Turkish citizens and foreign tourists have to comply with this system. This system helps both Turkish citizens and foreign tourists to live in a safer and more peaceful way ! No one can assure me that you are not a terrorist or that you are in an action.they are just doing their job ! I can see in the video how kind they are with you and how they want to help you.if you want to fly a drone you can only get permission it's not a big problem ! If you want to be followed and liked by many people, it would be smarter to try this content in America.I'm sure the american police will give you the content you want ! always play smart and get what you want😁 I love you little boy and have a good day ! 😘🇹🇷♥️🇺🇸
Very very beautiful footages and exciting experience 😛. Snowy Istanbul makes one a poet. (I think you look like FinnSnow btw :D)
Really! I havent heard that before!
You propably shouldnt reliase that video in police office. Recording that propably a crime. Be carefull and if you can delete that part from the video.
Ahhh Thanks for the information
Oh man....great that you got your drone back. My nightmare....a drone looks for a place to sit....alone ;-). Great video.
Nah bro, in TR u need to take a permit to fly a drone from SHGM but, in Istanbul, Ankara, İzmir and Muğla, you need permission from governers office or equalivent local office. I was taken by the police and held in custody for 5 hours and paid 10265try as a fine. And I am a Turkish citizen. So your argument in 14:51 is very invalid.
