Nothing worse than realizing that too many people have moved into your area. You can feel their anger and aggression everywhere you go. Trying to find another suburban gem that hasn't been ruined by outsiders is difficult.
Nice to see you back Quasi. No matter where you go its all getting over build with condos, apartment complexes, cookie cutter housing loops and mini malls. We came from one of the boroughs of NYC and moved to the sticks of northern new york 5 years ago and see a big change up here even. Just what we wanted to get away from.
Me, too! I've really missed the little Cub. Houston's frantic pace and crazy cagers make riding the Cub challenging sometimes, but I still enjoy riding it for work commutes and relaxed cruising on the back roads. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM
I hear you brother, time t move to the country. I was back in Missouri working on my house in Unionville, people were so nice. Traffic was two vehicles going in the same direction on the same day, people don't rush to overtake you on a bike, and the slow to wave when they pass, with all five fingers and a smile.
Come up here and live in Missouri. I need a scooter buddy anyway when I plan my ride to Niagara Falls. I have no friends or family who are interested in them 😂
I love watching your videos. Not only because I’m interested in the bikes that you ride, but my brother lives in Humble Texas and I visit him at least once a year. It’s fun to see landmarks that I recognize.
So yeah, I’m really thinking about putting that lithium battery in my cub so when I got it, there was supposed to be a new battery he said so I rode the thing absolutely all winter and the coldest I rode in was 14°F and I wrote it for like an hour and 25 minutes two different ways one day I had jumped the bike, a total of three times this winter and when it’s even a little bit cold now, it has a little bit of hesitation and starting, so I think the battery may not be so great. I believe it’s a regular lead acid one so I need the best battery I can get that will work the best as possible we can in cold temperatures because next winter I’m going to do it again luckily I had to jump in my box so jumping it was annoying, but it didn’t stop me
So if you did end up doing the fork maintenance in the front and the timing chain maintenance and what goes with it I would super appreciate a video your videos have been super helpful as far as maintaining my own cub thank you for all that you do and I look forward to any videos you come out with in the future
I plan to record and share the entire maintenance series for the Cub and my other bikes. The Cub's plastics can be tricky to remove without damage, so I'll be sure to give some pointers that should save time. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM
yeah i don't think driving through an intersection at 25mph counts as a california stop. that's more like just treating stops as optional. never been to texas, but when i was in AZ, drivers there, too, treated stops as optional, depending on the size of their vehicle. the larger the vehicle, the less likely they were to stop. and if they were in a big black suburban, they didn't even slow down.
I see that Honda is doing well :) I still ride Kymco Agility 16+125 from 2019. I had a new Kymco Xciting VS 400 in 2021, but after 2,000 kilometers I had a lot of problems, errors on the odometer, spontaneous engine shutdown and finally oil leaking from the oil sensor and I sold it... Honda is Honda... Greetings ;)
Yay, the cub is moving. Awesome fantastic I’ve still got mine moving. I now have 4600 miles on it and had nine when I got it winning and saving saving lots of gas.
I have seen it as an option on Honda's website, but I haven't seen one on the road yet. The Niltava Blue is the best color combo, in my opinion. It'll be nice to see that with the new engine... although the 5-speed from the Grom might be more fun! 😉👍 --QM
Unless you know to look for the different cooling fins or the oil filter cover on the new ones, you can’t even tell the difference between the ‘19 and ‘24. I saw one at a local dealer and re-fell in love with the color combo. My ‘22 Super Cub could use a friend 😜 I also agree, not sure why Honda went with the new engine but kept the 4 speed….
Glad to see you are recovering well mini motos always startup no matter how much time pass for me is the best category my pcx 150 has always started without any trouble and it has the same battery for about 3 years 😅
Agreed. I don't anticipate any major issues, but the cam chain tensioner is a known weak spot with these engines. Normal use probably doesn't wear them down as quickly, but extended high-RPM running (i.e. thousands of miles at WOT on the highway) whittles down the idler wheel to a fraction of its original diameter. We'll see how bad it is when I tear into one of the Cubs soon. 😉👍 --QM
How lovely to see the Cub out to play Aaron mine is showing nearly five thousand miles on the clock. Must admit fuel injected bikes do start quite well with a new battery. I ride mine for 4 days a week then use my thirty year old Suzuki GN250 the rest of the week. Im still on the standard chain and sprockets not really into improvements yet. Marc in Bletchley G6XEG
I'm hoping to get my cub going again this April. I need to get a new back tire, better chain and a new battery. I can't wait to start riding to work again.
Hey, if you could, if you don’t mind, could you let me know when it’s a good idea to replace the tensioner chain the idler wheel and what else needs to be replaced because at some point I am definitely gonna need to do that
i guess compression ratio like 11 or 11.5:1 are more suited to water cooled engines because of additionnal heat generated, it all depends if u value reliability above all or no
I've got a 12.5: 1 high compression piston as part of a tuning kit I've bought for the cub but I'm in doubt about whether I'll use the piston because the compression is so high I don't know if my local pump fuel will have a high enough octane (97 UK octane rating)
Come down to Victoria or Jackson county. Only an hour and a half or so to get to Katy, Houston, Sugarland, Austin, Corpus, and San Antonio. That 99 Ranch Market you passed in the video is somewhere ive been dozens of times.
Howdy! The CVT belt change procedure isn't difficult per-se, but it's a bit daunting for a first timer. You're definitely coming up on replacement time: 16K miles. You will need to have all of the necessary tools on hand, and the most important one is the CVT/clutch holder to remove the drive and clutch nuts. Without that, you're stuck making excuses for tools and probably damaging things in the process. I will be doing a full teardown and rebuild of my PCX soon, so I'll try to make the CVT my first video for you. The process is relatively painless after you've done it a couple of times. I can swap the belt in under 10 minutes if it hasn't already shredded itself. 😉👍 --QM
@@QuasiMotard Thank you very much. I don't know what the dealership would charge me for that, but I do know that for the tire changes labor alone is $250 plus the price of the tires. Wish I knew how to do that too but afraid of messing up the brakes and stuff. AGAIN, THANKS FOR THE VIDEOS. So very helpful
I really, really love the super cub c125. I prefer the PCX's form factor, though. I wish Honda would make their 157cc scooters with manual transmission. CVT is still...meh. I want the cub's DCT in a PCX 160!
Agreed! If Honda would pair the ADV/PCX 160 engine with a 6-speed transmission (preferably DCT or semi-auto like the Cub) with a sealed chain drive, it would be an amazingly efficient commuter. Driveline losses from the CVT could be eliminated for higjer efficiency. I'd bet the fuel economy would be higher than 150 MPG (US gallons). 🤔 --QM
That red tank in the center is a jerry can. It's one of only two "Neil tanks" in existence! I have one on my Cub, and a friend of mine, Adrian, has the other one. Our buddy, Neil, custom fabricated those tanks and mounting cradles for us before we left on our 10K-mile cross-country trip for the 2021 Scooter Cannonball Run. They hold about 1.3 gallons of fuel, but they aren't plumbed into the main fuel supply. We used them as emergency fuel supplies and as transfer tanks during our extended road trip. You can see it in action here: ruclips.net/video/NYjmV7FqLOM/видео.html . Cheers! 😉👍 --QM
Unfortunately not. E0 is very rare here in Houston, so it's impractical to fill most of my cars or bikes with ethanol-free. So, I try to treat the tank with Sta-Bil whenever the bikes will be stored for long periods. The closest station to me with E0 is Buc-ee's on I-10 in Katy, which is 22 miles from my warehouse. I suppose that I could probably bulk-fill a large fuel tank and keep that at my warehouse. 🤔 --QM
They do that b.s. in Pennsylvania if county you live in population is to big the Fed's won't sell ethanol free gas, I live in Pittsburgh and have drive almost hour to nearby county that's more rural to get ethanol free gas, is ridiculous truly
You have state inspection for motorcycles in Texas? I'm surprised. The Netherlands is known for that kind of stuff, but even here scooters (45kph limit) and motorcycles don't have to be inspected after their initial inspection, which on my main motorcycle was back in '00. Maybe they should be, though I know I keep mine fairly well maintained and would rather not have to deal with all that. Good luck on your recovery btw.
Yeah yeah yeah, the leaking rear tire may be part of why you were not riding the Super Cub. But, we all know the Hunter was the main reason. So good to see you on my favorite Scooter/Bike. 👍😁
Eh, practically doing one of the engine kits doesnt make financial sense to me, at that rate, of costing thousands, id personally just put that into a bigger bike. Unless the motor was broken, and i needed it NOW.. id hard pass.. but thats just me.
No, it still had the year-old fuel in the tank for the ride home. I filled the tank the following day with fresh fuel and Seafoam fuel cleaner. It's running great! 😉👍 --QM
Some people say the glass is half full other people say the glass is half empty I say it is not big enough. Maybe if we remove the stop signs so they are not there to be ignored. People will slow down to make sure it's OK to pull out.
Unknown. The high-compression piston & ring kit is under $100 if I remember correctly. The original head and valves are retained, but I think a different camshaft and ignition timing might be required to take advantage of the higher cylinder pressures. Fuel injector, Intake and exhaust should also be bumped, so that's more $$$. 🤔 --QM
QuasiMotard, how the heck kan you ride the super cub not missing the right gear. I drove 40 years on varying bikes, all with 1st gear down, rest up. I think it is criminal from honda to do it the cub way. More than once, there is a situation I have to squeeze the clutch, push the gear lever down, and accelerate as fast I can. But not with this one. That resulted in terrifying situations. But mostly, just as you say it is a nice bike to drive. Second shortcomin , suspension travel distance must be better and longer. Even smal potholes are hurting.
I started riding manual motorcycles in 1976, and I rode over 43 years and 2M+ miles before I sat down on my first Super Cub. Deprogramming the motor memory and shift timing from all those years took me a few days to become proficient with the Cub's transmission, that's for sure! There's nothing worse than accidentally rev-bombing the engine when traffic behind you is trying to smear you into a grease spot on the pavement. The Cub's suspension is a bit harsh, but no worse than other small bikes or scooters. It doesn't have a lot of suspension travel and it's not adjustable. There are lots of aftermarket shocks and fork upgrade kits available from Webike Japan ( japan.webike.net ) if you need some relief from the bumps. My Cub is still completely stock with 16K+ miles on the clock, and over 10K miles of that was during the 2021 Scooter Cannonball Run across the USA. The rear shocks feel a bit soft and the front forks are a little sticky, so it's probably time to rebuild (and possibly upgrade) the suspension. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

Glad to see the cub again. It's a collectors item.
Happy to see the Cub back on the road!
Yes! I love the cub! It’s probably my favorite in your collection.
