    Usually tanker trucks are day cabs not sleepers. Sleepers to long to get into city stations

      Thank you. I totally understand that, but for now I'm going with it since it's going with the group build. Eventually it will be pulling classic cars on a car hauler. But this will work for now for what I'm planning.

    As someone who drives a semi, and I have this kit and didn't realize that it was a snap kit, my only beef with these kits is the tires. Not just this one, but ALL of them. Semi tractors have two different types of tires, steers and drives. Every truck kit has ten tires that are all the same. outside of that, it looks like a great kit.

    • @grandpamarkshobbies
      @grandpamarkshobbies  10 месяцев назад +2

      I didn't know that. Now I'm going to be looking all the time. LOL I've worked on this kit for a while now and other than how bad the fuel tanks fit it's a nice kit. The fuel tanks needed to be stripped so they can be worked on so they look right. That changed the whole look of the semi, and about all the chrome ended up getting stripped.

    I just completed this model. As my first semi, I thought it was a good model. My dad was a truck driver and working on this model brought up a lot of memories of us on the road. I really enjoyed working on it and want to try doing more and adding more details.

    • @grandpamarkshobbies
      @grandpamarkshobbies  10 месяцев назад +1

      The mold lines on the tanks were so bad that I decided to strip the chrome and go with either the truck color and a chrome silver bands, or aluminum and chrome silver bands. The front bumper had a huge scratch in it so it needed to be stripped as well. So the LA Awesome is getting a workout today.

      If you are going to build it as a company truck then paint the bumper and the tanks. Company owned trucks are just basic trucks. I know because I have been driving for the same company for 22 years now.

  • @rayrussell6258
    @rayrussell6258 10 месяцев назад +2

    I'm probably too late but I was gonna say be careful dulling the chrome. Most trucks do really have bright chrome, they are just always subjected to dirt and salt that masks it a bit. Drivers were always asking my family's trucking business for approval to have the truck washed, to brighten things back up. lol I washed a lot of trucks when I was young, we had a school bus, too.
    That diamond-plate rectangle would be an exception, it's mounted on the frame, as a platform to stand on. Brushed aluminum would be appropriate there.
    Front tires are generally slightly bigger/wider than rear-tandem tires, so the comment below by HouseofHobbies is correct, the kits may not ever include the right tires.
    As for painting suggestions, you should choose your fuel brand first, then look for paint schemes that match the brand. The tanker trailer will need that too.

    • @grandpamarkshobbies
      @grandpamarkshobbies  10 месяцев назад +1

      I am stripping a ton of it so I can re do it with new chrome that is coming soon. This way I'll be able to tone it down a bit and make all the seam lines disappear. So a lot of work to get it back to where it was when I started. LOL

  • @EmeryMahaffey
    @EmeryMahaffey 9 месяцев назад +1

    I know you have this completed now. But from a drivers perspective from an old school drivers world where we actual took pride in our rigs and tried to show it on a daily basis and invested in parts and materials to keep our trucks clean and polished. I wouldn’t dull down any truck if I were trying to put it into a space where I wanted to showcase it even if it were a dirty work environment if I were wanting to show off the truck and the hard work I put into the building. Of course I understand also building it into the whole diarama also. But just saying from an old school driver when we took time when I stopped at the end of the day to go out and wipe down my truck chrome.

      First off, I want to thank you for being a driver. It's people like you that keep this country growing. I did some long and hard thinking about this before I got too deep into the build, and I went with how you described. I did do some light weathering on the frame rails and drive train, but the engine got very little and the rest got none. Although I did put some marks on the inside of the mud flaps I even kept the outside looking good. If you get a chance check out my finished video. I think you will be happy with what you see. Thank you for watching my video and giving me an honest opinion. I really appreciate that.

    I've built this exact kit. You can see it on my channel, if you want. While yes, it is considered to be a " snap tight " kit as semis go, but there will be a few parts that will need glue. For me, this truck went together very well. Other than the tires, as you already pointed out, very little clean up was needed, and the end result turned out pretty nice, I think. Looking forward to what you are going to do with this one! Have you considered making it a day cab and lose the sleeper? Most local delivery company drivers run day cabs. However, when I hauled fuel we would use independent owner operators that had sleeper trucks to help when we needed it. It would take some creative styrene sheeting work on the back of the cab of course. Not sure you want to do that much kit bashing. I did that on the Kerns Bread build I did on the GMC cabover and it was a bugger.

    Mark it looks like it'll be awesome. Maybe you should take a break from the super detailing...but it would be cool on something this big. How would you do the marker lights on the roof? So big, so much room to hide wires. Then it really wouldn't be a "quick" build.
    Red, White and blue for the color scheme. All American. We need that around now anyway.
    I agree about using a whole bottle of panel liner. Geez so much to cover. LOL Soo big!

    • @grandpamarkshobbies
      @grandpamarkshobbies  10 месяцев назад +1

      I am going to take a step back from the super detailing on this one. I will do some air lines to the airbags and brakes, but no lights or anything like that. I was going to go red white and blue, but this is going to be for the Texaco station, so I'm going to go park green with either a titanium gold or gold stripes. I put every bit of chrome in the stripper except the handrails, horns and roof lights. Everything else will either be chrome silver of flat aluminum. This will be a working truck not a show truck.
