On the Nebraska Pkwy going south, won’t they put a loop at the interchange once the make the east beltway? That would definitely relieve congestion and space in the future
Fantastic video! And congratulations on the progress! I still can’t believe how fast this whole project has progressed and I look forward to driving on it someday!
Looks like it would qualify to be a federally funded interstate roadway since there are no stop lights. Maybe just needs connected to an existing interstate? And since highway 77 has stoplights between I80 and this new highway it cannot be considered for interstate? Start putting more exits on 77 and make all this federal interstate.
Fun fact -- those acceleration/deceleration lanes on the railroad overpasses, for the interchanges, that aren't really needed: Why are they there? Plans eventually - when the traffic count warrants (way in the future prob), is to widen the beltway to six lanes. The other bridges are a piece of cake - very little needs to happen in order to make it happen, but the railroad overpasses... so much haggling and wrangling goes on between any road department/DOT on how a certain overpass should be built over any tracks -- since some of the property that the overpasses sit on are railroad property, that it can take years to get things worked out. Case 'n point: The SW 40th St. overpass here in Lincoln. How long did that take to get that thing built?... ten years??!... and then when they stated pouring the overpass piers, BNSF had a fit, got them torn down and redesigned/poured, because the railroad wanted to be able to drive between the piers in their works trucks. Nice to know 🤦🏼♂ ... so it's nice to see that NDOT is looking ahead and is putting in those lanes before more protracted discussions would've had to occur :) .
@@beltwaysouthoflincoln7098 Not necessarily. For example, look at the length of the merge lane on the east side of the new Jamaica Ave. interchange and run that distance to the west. There's plenty of room for the same merge design without the bridge. Even if the bridge was closer and they wanted to skimp (like the old, obsolete designs of the 50's, 60's & 70's), they could have made the ramps shorter to fit. Looking at the new Nebraska Pkwy. interchange, they could have made it work there as well. Acceleration/Deceleration lanes were kind of a '90s-ish thing for most new interchanges. I usually don't give away what I do in life, but let's just say for fun that at one time I worked at an old place called "The Roads" and listened to planners complain that a certain city (maybe named Lincoln) wasn't giving "The Roads" enough future land use info for their designing purposes (along with what "The Roads" waned to do, which was a bit bigger) -- before a certain project went dormant for a while. A city wanted a ramp here; "The Roads" wanted to put in more lanes for access to another there. Yada-yada, you get the idea ;p ... man that was a fun place -_- ..... I do believe the bigger interchanges have been designed for more lanes as well -- eventually... or at least that was the plan.....
@@beltwaysouthoflincoln7098 That is definitely one way to do it -- especially if space is lacking :) . NDOT likes their medians for whatever reason... more room in the middle to avoid impacts and more space to slow the roll, I guess 🤷🏼♂ (excluding crossover crashes - which is becoming more of a thing with bigger vehicles, unfortunately).
Officially it is supposed to open May 2023. I think it will be before that. It looks mostly finished to me. I would be interested to know what really is keeping it from opening. After all, Jamaica Avenue and the S 82nd/S 84th Street exits do not have to be finished for this to open. I have seen small stretches of this go from almost primitive to finished in almost no time. They have a tarp covering parts of some of the signs viewable by the public. I cannot imagine going through the winter with those tarps on those signs. They will have changed all of the signs on the current Hwy 2 to Nebraska Parkway during December. This is a lot of signs. What truly is left after that? Weather permitting of course.

Great progress to you and your crews!

Those bridges are wider for the on and off ramps. They would still have to widen those bridges to make the ramps work.

when will you be able to drive on the South Beltway?
State officials announced Friday that the South Beltway will open Dec. 14, several months ahead of schedule. According to a Journal Star Article
I Can’t Wait For Lincoln South Beltway To Open
Shit needs to open but to bad we will be revamping the 68th and 33rd exits within the next 5 years.
When will this open?
Not for awhile. Still a lot of work left.
@@beltwaysouthoflincoln7098 Any estimate/guesstimate as to how many months out yet? Still looks like a lot of sign work left, at least.
